I paint my gunplay with the metallic markers all the time, the entire kit. I use makeup sponge to even out the brush mark or use the marker airbrush system.
15:52 - 16:05 - Not just any black, it MUST be glossy black base. Then you have to let the chrome CURE, not just dry (may take a day or 2 depending on the instruction) then buff it with a fine sand paper or cloth and you'll get a mirror like finish... It's nice to see a Chrome Gundam Marker.. I'll try it once my Chrome Molotow marker is gone :)
I don’t know how I missed this video a year ago, but I have to say it’s probably the best one you’ve done 😂 Watching this is like having a refreshing drink after a long night of work and I just got home from a long night. Thanks for this video, Mecha! 😆
Honestly from a distance it looks great, with a bit more time and effort that's actually an awesome custom idea that I may steal when I get into customs
Some tips for a more consistent look when using gundam markers on larger surfaces: - Use a gentle touch. The paint wants to flow out and will work with you. Don't linger or you'll flood the surface - Don't 'scribble'. Strokes should go in the same direction as one another, steady and not too slow. Don't rush! but, again, don't linger on the surface. - Prime/pump the marker against something that is NOT the model itself. - If you feel you need to do a second layer, use rubbing alcohol on a paper towel to just wipe it all off and redo that area/part. You need to do it in one go, try to avoid needing to do touchups. - Similarly, cleanup is easily done with a toothpick once a layer has dried. Just gently(but firmly) rub at any mess or areas that need cleanup with the tip of the toothpick. It'll come right off, dry, without damaging the model. But yeah, these aren't meant for painting entire models- details, smaller areas, v-fins, even panel lining, they're great. If you wanna repaint an entire surface, you CAN use these, but it's gonna be harder than it needs to be.
GBWC 2022.... At least you tried category. Nice custom but i think its better to go slow as possible with chrome paint and also very very very clean. All chrome paints (lacquer, acrylic, enamel or paint in general) are really easy to reveal most minimal imperfection.
Mecha slowly revealing himself on the channel. First as a hyper active voice over, Then with his " hand reveals," later with how he looks in the 3d face mask episode. Now, we are getting a background on his education! And a look on how messy his desk is (just like all work benches should be.) The channel is getting personal and i like it. Some notes on "painting" though. You can paint on sections of the parts instead of painting them in one go as the sections will then be dry enoug to go back to and finish them off without messing up the previous paint. I think im sold for the chrome paint. I just hope its cheaper than molotow and available here in our country.
I'm a fine arts graduate and my thesis involved customizing miniature vehicle kits and gunpla (because I ran out of budget for more cars, and my gunplas were all over the room). But seriously, if I was the jury I'd fail myself on the painting aspect. Working with metallic colors is a headache when you're only used to flat colors.
the airbrush handset for gundam markers can be used with some compressors. i just ordered mine a week ago, and am very excited to see how it will work out with some custom builds i am working on.
Get the gundam marker airbrush if you plan on using the markers to paint the kits. I have it and you can replace the tips with the extras they include and it'll cover the entire surface area in about 28 seconds per large part and almost instantly on smaller ones. I resprayed an HG 00 in a single night as well as the new entry grade and they both turned out great. You don't need a high end compressor either, I just have a super cheap one from the hardware store and used a line adapter with some threading tape and it works amazing.
You mentioned it at the beginning of the video but I highly recommend giving the Molotow pens a try. Liquid metal flows out of that thing. I got a 1 mm pen to back clear parts and try out painting the moulded-in piston details on inner frames. Painting directly on clear parts (from behind) looks virtually no different from just using normal metallic paint, but if you have a surface that doesn't contact the part behind it, it'll shine the same as if you put a foil sticker behind it. The only problem is the stuff never seems to fully "dry". Even days later, one touch and the surface is smudged back down to a matte finish. Absolutely has to be used in no-contact spaces or probably with clear coat applied, though I haven't tried that yet.
I need that chrome pen :). . I recently brought some cheap gold, silver and pink acrylic markers from my local poundland and was extremely surprised at how well they worked on gunpla. For £1 each they were pretty amazing.
You can use a compressor with the Gundam Marker Airbrush, btw! The problem is, it comes with a can of air, so shipping the thing itself might still be an issue.
The chroming looks nice. However, if you are planning on using this as a base for candy finishes, you would need to do a bit more. SPecifically, carefully applying a layer of gloss topcoat first, because in my experience, Gundam Markers strip rather easily.
Actually just ordered one of those chrome ex markers a couple days ago for a barbatos kit. Was alil ify on how it would work but got me all excited now lol
I'd have loved a chrome marker like that back when I built the old Gazu R/L kit. Testor's silver spray just isn't the same. But now imagine, say, a HGCC Sumo...
Just some adive for the standard red gundam marker. For whatever reason, it's actually clear red, so it works better with a white base coat. Also great for clear parts.
u need aligator clip to hold d part while painting also toothpick or 000 Round hanbrush to reach some difficult or tricky places the Ink of gundam marker can reach all the way if brush it w/ toothpick
Man I hope they make a yellow chrome version of that marker because I could use that not just on Gunpla but a variety of some power rangers toys that I have that need it.
states hip. Agree the silver isn't as nice as most other mattallics, but it needs a LOT more shaking than the other ones, you gotta shake it for like three minutes straight to get the metallic flakes to come out with the paint.
I have something to say, don't overwork yourself, if you want the best results give yourself the patience you need if focus on the longest projects (like the mask) and if you have enough patience do your other projects! But nonetheless I like it good vid mecha!
This is strangely similar to my first custom in terms of process which is hilarious to me. It was the Helmwige Reincar but I knew even less about painting and just kinda scienced it with Gundam Markers. I never heard of primer before and I discovered that the colors came out better if I painted the parts white first. I went for a green and black and the black came out perfect but the green was very streaky. But since we're all bringing in our degrees I was a film & media student so if anything I was able to take pictures in a way that made it look better than it does at most angles lol.
So the intro is just "You know, I'm something of a scientist myself." lol

What do you mean that Archers is full of Archers.
Just because you're correct doesn't mean you're right

Every sixty second in africa a minute has pass shirou
that metallic green works well for eye lenses, head cameras and scopes of rifles. even tried them on 00 kits and looks real good
Indeed, i tried it on the MG Build Strike and ITS FANTASTIC
Just imagined MechaGaikotsu working on fusing vegetable Ein into his Graze.
Fuse him into my PC so I can cheat at online shooters
i really like the chrome and all but has anyone noticed the custom IBO gundam frame he also built!!!
Bandai be like : "HG Helmwige Reincar Iron Blooder Coating ver."

Shhh they could be listening
Woah, good job on the educational achievements!!!
I would invest in the gundam marker air brush,it's pretty cheap too. Also he will ride to Valhalla shiny and chrome.WITNESS HIM!
If I spray it in my mouth will you pay my medical bills?
@@MechaGaikotsu Maybe.

@@ariesclockworkkai9298 all these formulas for nothing...
Practice disassembling and assembling a whole kit. That works for me. Maybe that method could help you too.

"Did I just pick my nose and get chrome in there!?" Lmfao

If that aint a fucking mood, I dont know what is. That's just my life at this point
The cringe factor of watching you scrub away furiously with Gundam markers is 10/10. Laughing. Crying. Covering my eyes. I felt all the emotions.

The fact that we’ve managed to get chrome into a marker is an amazing revelation in and of itself
It's been around since like 6 years ago
I've been using molotow

Oh wow.. very intresting ! Gonna grab the crome marker thingy
Thanks for this video, btw the Helmwige Reincar you customized is amazing!! Really love the look

Whats up with those "inuyasha nails" lol damn bro .
"Iron reaver soul stealer" through college?

Just bought a pack of these metalic markers yesterday and found this video today! Super excited, might time myself just for laughs.
The chrome being reflective is insane. Crazy engineering to make a pen able to paint a damn mirror.
hey Mecha, yes the gundam marker airbrush is aerosol based, however you can always hook it up to a compressor(which they also made for it).
I have a crazy old compressor in the wardrobe. Sounds like a tractor with jelly in the gas tank. Maybe that would work!
Woah, that turned out very well!
I've seen people using the chrome marker on their kits and am amazed at how well it works. I hope to get one soon.

The Gunmetal one is excellent for painting hands and joints. It looks damn good on small pieces.

Dood, I LOVE the Reincar! Glad you chose it to test these pens!
whoa dude, i never knew you had such advanced education background, fookin awesome!

There is an airbrush setup for the gundam markers. To make it easier I set mine up to a airbrush compressor set around 20 psi
I going to need some of these for that machinedramon kit
im sure you can rig the air pen part to work with a small makeup airbrush pump
u painted the exact same kit i tried my first metallic paint markers on, except i used the gold and Blue metallic
I use the Metallic Green a lot. ones its solidly mixed, you get a beautiful finish
the chrome will look good under clear parts, it will make them glow with the right lighting.
yes, i used on the Gundam Double X green clear parts on the chest. It looks great
You know... I kept passing on these ex markers because of how bad the metallic ones usually are... Great... Now I need a box of them
Yoo no joke u don't look like a scientist but congrats on being one I'm glad that u are

You can use a compressor with the Gundam Marker Airbrush, btw! The problem is, it comes with a can of air, so shipping the thing itself might still be an issue.
So you're the real scientist behind the devil gundam should have seen that coming

You should look into the gundam marker airbrush system
broooooo use the Molotow Liquid Chrome mirror finish, i used it on my babrbatos, best chrome hands down
So your a scientist what do you do as your passtime?
Mecha: GUNPLA
What?
Mecha: GUNPLAAAA!!!!
You should use the metallic markers to detail rg kits. The red marker works well for the Crossbone's scars if you use thinner to clean it up
Mecha a scientist? Well I never expect anything less from you
Color scheme seems AWESOME!!! I kinda wanna see a proper custom of the Helmweige Reincar Armor Plating version.
"To make a long shtory sort" but seriously. Laying down that chrome without priming, impressive
