The only Buck that had done this to me was when I was with my Dad on the first day at 6 or 7 years old. Dad told me to sit right here by an oak tree, because we see a bunch of does feeding down below! Remember this was back in the early 60's! Dad started sneaking down to them to see if a buck was with them. All of a sudden this Giant Buck come over a ridge right at me! Dad was down below me and I jumped up scared out of my mind! LOL Dad run up around me and started shooting at this thing I thought was as big as a house! Remember I was 6 or 7! Dad hit the Buck 2 or 3 times before he piled up! Dad said are you alright. I must have almost passed out I was so scared! 180 something! I still remember that one 60 years later! The first time and only time I had a deer come right at me! He must have been jumped by someone else on the other side of the mountain. We heard a shot 4 min before!
Absolutely!! And sleeping in the next morning, waking up to a beautiful buck hanging! Plus all of the stories shared around the buck with friends and family. Nothing beats it!
Thanks SuperDanger! As mentioned in the description and in the video, 200lbs is the ultimate big buck mark here in the Northeast. Vermont’s Biggest Buck Club is for any buck that weighs in over the 200lbs, fully dressed out. He missed the mark by only a couple lbs! A beautiful 5.5yr old mountain buck.

Thanks! Like I mentioned in the video and in the description… 200lbs! He was 198.10 in the video, clean dressed. 200lbs is the benchmark for big bucks in the northeast. Score is a secondary thing and isn’t talked about all that much here. However, he ended up scoring 120 1/8” and was entered into the VT big game trophy club for the 2021 season.
Thanks Dwayne, I wish too! I was just getting into the woods, prepared for a long day of tracking and wasn’t expecting to run into him where I did. Like our late father always said… It’ll happen when you least expect it!

great buck in anyone's woods. Congrats on a very successful "short" hunt lol. Wish you could figure out how to attach a go-pro to your body so some of this can be filmed.
Thanks EastTexan! Appreciate the comment. I do have many tracking videos up on the channel including this year’s buck. I had the GoPro that day, just hadn’t started rolling yet. Was expecting a very long day of tracking my ahead of me and was just hoofin’ it to get into an area where I wanted to cut a buck track but was pleasantly surprised before that!
@@WanderingWhitetails Surprised is an understatement. Total disbelief would what I would have said lol. But you collected yourself and make a fine shot. WTG.
@@easttexan2933 That’s for sure! Extremely fortunate to have crossed paths with him. He was aged at 5 1/2 yrs old, a true mature public land mountain buck. Thanks!
Man .. you'd shit if you seen a 3-350lb Alberta WT deer lol. Congrats.
Thanks! Yes, I definitely would! They are a whole other beast up there. Would love to hunt for a Canadian whitetail one day.
Great job. The hard work paid off!!
Thanks Michael! It definitely did!
Nice work!
Thanks!
My uncle is the guy who will give you the patch when you get that 200 pounder
That's awesome Iasiah! Hopefully we will be fortunate enough to have the honor to receive a patch from him one day!
Congrats 👍
Thanks!
Congrats on that buck! Remington 742 in .308 with core lokt. Love it.
Thanks! That’s right! 👍🏻
Still use my Grandpa's 742 (280 Rem) in Ontario
@@abowhand That’s great! Love the family heirlooms that have so much history and a deeper meaning. Much better than buying one off the shelf or building one yourself! My 742 was given to me by my Grandfather as well.
How could you not get any part of this kill on film, very big let down.
Thanks for the feedback! Easier said than done. He was on top of me before I knew it and I’m a hunter first, videographer second. Had to ensure I executed properly within seconds and not worry about fumbling around with a camera and messing up the opportunity at a buck of that caliber. I got my 2022 buck on camera! Feel free to check that one out too 👍🏻
Kudos brother
Thanks Todd!
Got me excited just seeing the look on your face! Lol I subscribed to you!
Thanks for the sub! Appreciate it 🙏🏻
I'm watching a couple other videos now!
Very nice congrats
Thanks!
Awesome buck.making memories
Thanks! Absolutely. Memories for a lifetime.
Congratulations. Great buck.
Thanks Chad!
any idea what he scored ?
Hey Craig, thanks for the comment! He was just scored a few days ago by the VT Big Game Trophy Club and his official score was 120 1/8”. Looking forward to getting his tooth results back soon to see what he aged at.
Great buck and a great story!
Thanks Christopher! Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video. He was a 200 pounder all day. Guaranteed he was well over 200 during archery season. It was perfect finding all that sign the day before. That was definitely his ridge. Congrats
Thanks! Definitely agree with you on that one. Knew he was in there somewhere the past few years. Always awesome when you are able cross paths!
Awesome deer man defenatly monster in VT congrats
Thanks man! Appreciate it 👊🏻🦌
what a story what a hunt!
Thanks Rob!
Congratulations
Thanks Jerry!
Great deer!! My biggest was 197 clean.
Thanks! That’s a great buck, congrats on yours too!
By your reaction, I can see that you were excited, joyful, elated and happy at the same time. Many people can't understand the feeling you get when you encounter a nice buck. But I am well aware of it, because I hunt every year, and when a nice one comes along it's a very rewarding experience. Those are some pretty woods there. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the comment! Beautiful woods and a feeling that only a hunter can truly understand. When you pour everything you have into scouting and hunting the mountains… the feeling of success is just that much sweeter! Memories for a lifetime.
@@WanderingWhitetails great enthusiasm! but that's not a deer, it's a steer. nice big bodied mature buck. if gutted he weighs 198, then natural weight was 240-250, which is a huge deer
@@pamtnman1515 Thanks! Truly a mountain monarch.
@@WanderingWhitetails i also hunt the ADKs. subbed your channel
@@pamtnman1515 Thanks for subscribing and following along! Good luck out there
👍👍 saw your pic on VT Big Game Trophy Club site. Great buck. What part of State u at?

nice buck good ol 308 742
Thanks! That’s right 👍🏻 742
Not gunna lie, i clicked to see a 200in deer but very impressive none the less, congrats!
Thanks! 200in what’s that?! Haha just kidding. The only measurements we truly care about are lbs! Thanks for watching, appreciate it!
That'd 200 in my books
Beautiful deer. As a fell over monster that grew up in Addison county, I know those bucks that big are hard to find. I highly recommend you manage that area well. I'd say he's mature but he hasn't been mature very long I'd say he's probably three and a half years old at the most. Could you imagine that deer two more years holy s***. But man I would have shot it too brother without hesitation unbelievable job congratulations. What a story too man having that damn thing come and charging right at you what a rush God what adrenaline how you had that name my man. That is the high that man has been trying to duplicate since the beginning of time and we can't do it. Nothing will ever give you that kind of a high that you just felt that day that's amazing congrats again
Thanks for watching! He aged at 5.5yrs old. One heck of a hunt! Without a doubt, a buck and memory I’ll never forget.
That's a horse !!
Thanks Joe!
Congratulations 🎉🎊🍾 beast of a public land deer man
Thanks Robert!
luck counts man.. great job.
Thanks! You’re absolutely right. Appreciate it!
Luck? You make your own luck. You found his rub line and went back where the sign is, I'd say that's good hunting skills, congratulations!
Thanks Frank! You’re absolutely right. Catching him that day that moment is the lucky part! But I worked to put myself in the right place at the right time. Thanks for the comment!
It is law up there you guys have to wear green plaid? Hahaha jk bub nice buck!
Haha! Well, it’s my late father’s original Johnson wool jacket from years ago. This jacket has killed many many bucks. It’s as lucky as they come 👍🏻🦌
Sweet! I was kidding with ya though, alot of videos from up there have all of people with green plaid! Do what works bubba! Nice buck
Haha of course I knew you were! And thanks! Heritage and tradition are big up north and the iconic Vermont made Johnson green plaid wool is definitely a part of that for many.
What it’s all about man!! Congrats on a beauty!
That’s right! Thanks
Congratulations! And thanks for the great video!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching!
Congrats,nice harvest
Thanks!
Are you kidding me 😂! Seriously, incredible buck, congrats!
🤣 clearly my quote of the day! Haha. Thanks Jared, appreciate it!
Why didn’t you leave the lugs an heart on it it probably lost 2 lbs of blood to
Easily lost a solid few pounds of blood! And to enter the 200lb club the weight must be fully dressed, no heart/lungs/liver allowed.
Awesome buck congratulations fate was on your side that day
Thanks! Appreciate it!
Nice Buck!!!
Thanks Bill!
I'm going to say 185 190. How much did it weigh
He weighed 231.5lbs whole and 198lbs dressed (197 officially by the time he got to the weigh station).
@@WanderingWhitetails wow,awesome
@@smjhobbies4527 Just missed my patch! I’ll keep trying for the coveted 200lbs
@@WanderingWhitetails beautiful still, congrats brother
For a patch does it need to be clean dressed? Or field dressed? I’m sure that deer would be 200 field dressed…
Hell of a buck! Congratulations!
Thanks Bud!
Beautiful Buck man!
Thanks Terry!
Very nice big woods buck. Congratulations!
Thanks man!
200? For sure! What a buck. How the hell do you guys get a deer like that out of the mountains? My truck is about 400 feet from my treestands haha
Thanks! Lots of hard work and determination. Luckily this one wasn’t too bad of a drag, but sometimes it’s a few miles! Slow and steady, once you’ve shot one, there’s no rush. We’ve gotten back to the truck as late as 10pm before. It’s all a part of the process and we wouldn’t have it any other way!
This dude can tell a story
Haha thanks! I’ve been told that a time or two before. Deer hunting and story telling definitely go hand in hand!
Well over 200
Nice buck 👍
Thanks J P!
That buck would of took 6th place in our big buck contest! Nice buck
Thanks! That’s awesome! In Vermont?
@@WanderingWhitetails always watch the vids, learning alot watching!!! Awesome!!
Glad to hear it! Thanks for following along.
True love for the game right there!!! Well done sir and congratulations!!! Hammer!!!
Thanks Randy!! Appreciate it
What a buck. Congrats. Love the hat too. Looks like you hit farm way for the outfit hah.
Thanks! Haha we’ve been wearing wool since we started hunting. The Johnson jacket was my late father’s and is the luckiest thing I’ve ever worn, the Codet pants were my Grandfather’s, but the hat is new school.
great buck congrats!
Thanks Michael!
Great buck! Love seeing success from the north east! Its tough out here!
Appreciate it! 👊🏻🦌
great buck for sure.i shot my biggest buck this past season also (10 point)..i don't think i'll ever top him either but we'll see i have some big bucks that made it,i guess we'll see how big they get this coming season..Congrads man
Thanks man! Congrats on yours as well, good luck out there and remember to enjoy the process 👊🏻🦌
Oh, 200 pounds? The antlers barely 130"
Yes, pounds! We don’t care much about inches up here. That’s just a bonus at the end of the day!
Congratulations. Nice buck. What did he weigh before you dressed him? 240?
Thanks! He went 231.5 lbs.
@@WanderingWhitetails awesome. I was curious. Never weighed them whole but good idea.
@@karvtek Thanks! Forgot to get that part on film but I’m glad we did it! Pretty cool just to see what a buck like that would go whole. Obviously heavier live weight without significant blood loss. Definitely made for a little more difficult drag but when you’re high on adrenaline, the drag is enjoyable! Thanks for watching.
Guessing 200 pounds. Not inches. Guess I'll find out
Haha yes, pounds! We don't care about score very much up here in the northern states.
