    Thanks. I watched to see what to use, so I'm buying Glass Gleam Solar Cleaner from your link. Mine is a small solar panel on the roof for an attic vent fan, so I'll use water and a washcloth-size microfiber to loosen, rinse, then diluted cleaner and a microfiber-wrap brush made for inside vehicle windshields to scrub, a washcloth-size microfiber rag for tough spots, casing lips and to dry, then a bathroom shower wall squeegee to finish up.

    The user manual for my panels says "each customer is free to choose the method of cleaning" and then goes on to say any damage is not covered by the warranty. Big help. It does also say "Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) can be used selectively to remove stubborn dirt and stains within one hour after emergence." I don't really understand what that means, maybe just for installers?

    I live in an area with hard water. Is there something special needed to prevent the hard water spots when following your guide?

      By no means am I an expert but I would definitely use a squeegee after you are done cleaning. But I wouldn't worry too much.

      Squeegees can actually void warranties for the same reason using an abrasive brush would. With the coating on solar surfaces it can damage just as bad. I'd use RO to spray it down before and after. Or get DI water. The video is misleading, DI has no attractive effect. Being pure H2O, it pulls minerals it can pick up, hopefully leaving nothing behind. RO is a great start because it filters out most of the salts and minerals, DI rinse will fully leave it clean.

    Is there a need to use deionized water?

    • @DoItYourselfDad
      @DoItYourselfDad  Год назад +2

      Nope, no need. It’ll help with water spotting, but I have very hard water in my area and have had no issues.

    Did you shut down the system of the solar panels before you cleaned

    What about drying them? Do you a squeegee or anything? Or just let them air dry?

    • @DoItYourselfDad
      @DoItYourselfDad  7 месяцев назад +1

      I just let them air dry, the soap is designed to help prevent water spotting.

    You mention the coatings on the panels. A 'professional' solar panel cleaner just 'cleaned' the coatings off my 29 panel Tesla array.

    So I heard that using high pressure just like you used on you panels, I believe the jet sitting, will damage the panels. Heard to use the shower setting what's true? Anything from you or others would be appreciated trying to clean mine to save a buck lol

      Hose pressure is more than fine. The concern is people using pressure washers on their panels.

    When it's dirty, it maxes out at 5.9kw. When it's clean, it maxes out at 5.7kW. So it made LESS power once clean?

      There’s a lot of other factors to take into consideration. Angle of sun, heat, UV index, cloud cover etc.

    I read in several different areas you never walk on your panels as you were

      I never walked in the panels, I never even got on the roof…. and you are correct, panels should never be walked on.
