What was the point of those suits and helmets they were wearing? They couldn't have been pressurized, since we can see their bare necks and wrists while wearing them.
This had potential but I could not figure out what the story was. A lot of effort went into this but if you are going to have decompression then you should at least have a neck seal to the helmet. I did not understand who the characters were or what they were trying to do.
I noticed that right away! For all the work they put into the helmets at least they could have gone further and "faked" the top part of a pressure suit! As far as the "story" goes they could have done some voice over setting it all up...
Agreed, the missing neck seal was quite an immersion breaker. The premise is surely inspired by Helldivers II, a recent game where soldiers are deployed from a space station onto planets.
At least have a short storyline prior to the film. And now that they landed, what was she supposed to do? Fight or was she captured? So much potential but the storyline went nowhere.
Well, I’m a sci Fi junky…and I liked it. It’s her ump-teenth mission, she’s calloused, she’s seen soldiers live, she’s seen them die. She know the routine and the disregard to the safety of the recycled equipment that they are using. This time things went really wrong, but again, she lives go put one more mark on her helmet. I liked it. Left me to fill in the blank places with my own imagination. 👍🏼👍🏼
No neck seals on the helmets attached to O2? Carving into a helmet? A total blackout of information regarding the mission parameters? Camera work that is as shaky and dark as the plot. Face lights on a helmet? I understand wanting to jump right into the scene but there need to be clues as to what we are watching.
Well yeah, you can carve into metal. As for the rest, meh, just use your imagination and/or.....read the description :). Also, they mentioned (complained) that they were being sent in with crap. So with crap they went and as a result, the one guy died on entry. Then, we learn why she's scratching another mark in the helmet. They are fighting a war that is futile and unsupported by their leadership. This is a film that sets out emotions, futility of war based upon the repetitiveness of being a soldier...it's easy.
Toggle switches and led helmet lights, dymo labels, blue blood in helmet. What was the story, who were the characters, no idea? Whilst I quite like a bit of thought provoking indie film. This one was too much like hard work.

I have a checkpoint. If I don't understand it I thumb it down. I don't buy into the artist "interpret it yourself" or "what did it mean to you?" philosophies. Are they telling a story or just showing special effects?
@@buggerlugz6753 Yes, it did. It was all very clear. Everything I said, I either saw or heard, in the film. First of all, I apologize for such a long response, but if I were to push out a quick reply, you may not get my reasoning. Not everyone interprets information with clarity. It's just like there are a lot of people who don't interpret the written word with clarity, which is to say, that if they cannot fathom the whole idea in two sentences, they don't at all. It's why novels are now written in simple, basic language. In my home library I have very old books, and the language written, in comparison to books published now, seems rather complicated (even though it really isn't) Once upon a time, creating something was to excel at it: artwork was meant to be sophisticated, books were to lift up intellect and imagination through words, and old movies from the 30s and 40s, had far more dialogue spoken in better english than the movies we have now. People would look, read, listen and absorb by taking their time to do so. It was all savoured like fine dining, as opposed to 2024 where people want to take in art like they gobble down a McDonalds cheeseburger - one bite, two at the most. Movies, especially the franchised ones, have resorted to telling stories with big pictures more than words where people don't need to be able to identify nuance, subtleties, hints and the slight of hand in their expressions. People have been conditioned to look at big pictures and the result is if they don't get the entire, full meaning in the first two minutes, it's gone. Just like today's books, just like the cheap burgers. This short film is full of nuance and subtleties to be savoured in order to discover all of the story details.

What was that? A descent, she blacks out, the other two die? Why? There's no way to tell. So, did she get captured? Is she back in orbit? There's no way to tell. These are just guesses/
Notice the mark she puts in her helmet in the end? My interpretationof that, she's an enemy agent infiltrating a drop unit of the invading force and killing soldiers during the descent.
Not too bad. The thing that threw me off first was the distressed look of the helmets. It looked like it took a lot of work to get them that beat up. Maybe too much. The sound of the scraping of the knife on the helmets didn't match up. Then I noticed that the uniforms still had creases in them looking like they were just opened and put on by the actors. All the effort to make the helmets look old, but the uniforms are brand new. I wanted to believe that we have some future technology that allows for masks that don't seal and you can still have compression, but...And the hoses seemed to pop out a little easy. Over all I liked it.
Remarkable acting via facial expressions and atmosphere, but unfortunately that did not compensate for rather gaping holes in the story, starting with, what was the actual story? I understand from the description what it was supposed to be, the ideology of war and expendable soldiers, etc., but this was far from clear without that description. Also, things like the helmets were not at all airtight (very obvious), lighting inside the helmets (???), and numerous other tech flaws made it very hard for suspension of disbelief. I get the idea of going for a certain type of aesthetic and so on, but attention to detail does count for a lot in this type of story. As said previously, though, the acting was very well done.
Film makers do everything in their power to make everything as realistically as possible, and then, almost without fail, they add these ridiculous face-illumination helmets.
@@MiTheMer I'm not an astronaut, but I ride motorbikes. I can imagine how useful it would be to attach a bunch of light on a helmet that shine in your eyes the entire time.

I swear alk the haters are just first term film students, thinking they could do better and aren't actual sci-fi fans. They watch short films then complain that they are short. No ending? They clearly stated at the beginning they are using old vessels because they are easy to recover and re-use. One was drafted. It's war. They crashed, the vessel was recovered with her barely still alive in it. She is barely patched up to be sent back down in the lander again. Disposable soldiers, for resusable landers to try and make it past the defense missile system. It's a brief glimpse into a war, not a full movie. If you want a full story go pick up some sci-fi or some physics books and things might make some more sense.
I liked this. Sure there are gaps in the information we have, but in less than ten minutes I could figure out what was going on. Bravo for the IDGAF attitude of our hero.
Wouldn't it be more useful if the little lights on the helmets were on the outside of the helmet. I would think the eyes would see better if the inside of the helmet was completely dark.
I really enjoyed it. I don’t understand the landing trajectory. Why were they directed through the asteroid rings instead of away from them? I like the commentary on the use of cheap equipment at the expense of lives, which basically implies these soldiers were expendable and have less value than their helmets. The acting is great too. Thank you.
My MRI was like that, except I was offered a selection of music. I chose the "Instrumental - East Listening" category, and the first song was a solo piano rendition of Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen. It matched my situation. lol :-)
I thought it was well done. The only thing I get a kick out of every time I see it is interior lighted helmets. I get you need to light up the actors faces, but irl the glare would be debilitating. Good concept though. Great job.
Good actress..wanted to be stoic. resigned .like we are all going to die ... and isolated but reached out to help that scared comrade. very intense ,,as for details..one is supposed to suspend disbelief or we'll be looking for bloopers everywhere.. just enjoy the ride..I believe Ed woods coined that not sure....I liked it..
I dunno. For me, the whole imagery was wrong: decor, lighting, design of the hardware surrounding them. And why have helmets that don't connect with the suits? Terrible design, really. And not much of a plot.
Production was good along with effects. No real story line. Sounds like there is a war or fight but there is never any fighting. If they are soldiers being dropped in there are no weapons and they are not dressed for combat so that is not the story. If they are piloting a craft into battle that is not working with the story you are showing. They are along for a ride with no real purpose. I get it that she keeps surviving and notches her stuff for each trip. Also you show her hurt inside of her helmet. Not very plausible under the conditions you are showing. Tweek it and give more info to make the story.
What is the point of losing an air pipe in a suit that wasn't sealed on the neck line? Pity, the rest of the production values were great, but that was a paticularly poor oversight from sci-fi of the past...
🟦…Something terrible happened to one of the crew at around 6:07 But I don't know what it was or what caused it. ... I'm more than just a bit confused here.
Overall i enjoyed this. Great work by the cast and director. The only bit of i hope constructive criticism is the use of lensflair was a bit distracting as there was too much in places.
We originally wanted to use uncoated lenses to get that look, but our budget was very low so we couldn’t afford it. Instead, we used a lens filter to get a similar effect, but it did cause A LOT of flaring.
When your drop-pod can dodge missiles but isn't able to dodge debris to land safely then kills 2/3 of its crew, you know you need to stop doing this. I don't see the point of hi-tech if its to fail so miserably. Otherwise, good acting and FX, just the scenario deserves a little more polish.
Requires way to much imagination to care about the story. If fresh air supply can't be rigged to helmet than loose it since between the lack of neck seal and outward facing face lighting detracts too much. Shaky camera gives eye ache not anxiety. Intro of a pan shot on a close-up stationary object screams armature. Basically way to much camera movement. Good set design is lost on bad camera handling and lack of story. Dialog is good but story is??? Story first
For a limited set, the scenes are well done, and effects too. I like that it has me wondering a bit. But also I wonder if I'm looking for a deeper meaning (story wise) than there needs to be.
@bobberndt9744 Thank you for your feedback, appreciate you taking the time to watch! Stratosphere, in my interpretation, is about the cyclical life a soldier who is used as cannon fodder but survives just to be put right back in the same situation (recycled), while also being forced to use recycled equipment. There is a lack of identity that also comes with this, being stripped away even amongst colleagues as they enter the room without making an effort to get to know the person they are about to make the drop with. Would love to hear more of your thoughts!
Dulling a good blade to carve a weak spot on a helmet - yea, that happens. LOL. Trying to look hard but end up looking like a fool. A sharpe works just fine for such things. Then again, Real Soldiers don't fuss with such foolishness. They keep their blades sharp and their gear in good order. The beeping on comms is a bit much. This is a short scene about what exactly?
This was a shit show. No story, absurd pod cabin, shake, shake, shake, the end. Not mentioning the stars in the background at 1 meters behind the windows. If you do crap fake stellar sky, don’t move the camera, the fake depth field is instantly recognizable otherwise.
Ah, low budget! Notice how the helmet "actor lights" spill onto the suits. Not much use if you are in zero pressure. No worries 'tho..we see almost the same in MUCH bigger budget shows like "The Ark." My definition: helmet with "actor lights" illuminates actor while blinding said actor to external world. Nightmare loop...but whose?
Too shaky and hard to know what was going on at all. I seen shorter films that are able to give out a story line and give enough information to the viewers to understand what is happening or what might happen. I am sure it will get beter and better with more practice
Amazing graphics. The rest was far too confusing. Audio was unintelligible, especially when in their suits. The ridiculous "kung fu" type blurry and sped up motion sequences went on so long that the viewer has no idea if the ship made it to the planet or not. They avoided a missile, but then what? Was their mission a complete bust? She ended up back on the main ship to do it all over again. It looked like an hour or so of filming with the characters and the rest was chop-chop editing. What was the point?
was ok. main actress was good, could have explained what happened between landing and ending up back on the ship. not sure id want to drop with her - she seems to be the only one who ever comes back.
She's not back at the beginning, the whole point is the call up to undertake dangerous missions is relentless. Whilst still trying to deal with what happened to her, and the fact she almost died, she's off to do it again.
Excelente producción. Pero dos cosas les sugiero: - activen los subtítulos en español siempre. - Y suban más contenido utópico para que perdamos el miedo a los avances tecnológicos

I had my hopes up...and was gravely disappointed.
Very well done! Especially for a low budget 1st release.. Hope the team sticks together for the whole tale..
What was the storyline?
Way too much shaky cam.
What was this about?
Dust stores are really getting difficult to understand nowadays.
Awesome short film, great use of suspense and tension
can’t wait to see more from the director!
That was definitely,..Dust.
Cmon guys, seal the helmet, is a small prop fix
Overall i enjoyed this. Great work by the cast and director. The only bit of i hope constructive criticism is the use of lensflair was a bit distracting as there was too much in places.
We originally wanted to use uncoated lenses to get that look, but our budget was very low so we couldn’t afford it. Instead, we used a lens filter to get a similar effect, but it did cause A LOT of flaring.
Considering the time constraints and budget this was a glorious effort. Very good acting.
This helldivers live action was okay.
But also I wonder if I'm looking for a deeper meaning (story wise) than there needs to be.
the number of shorts that don't give you enough information to know at all what is going on is annoying AF
Strange game of "who will survive", as abstract as it was, reason why I found no depth or plot.
Has potential…. Dust is just slipping.. I haven’t seen a dust film worth watching in a while
In my opinion too much bloom as well as physical inaccuracies. Still not bad
Interesting, good visuals, but non-defined mission. Leading to lack of plot.
I didn’t get it.
✌
this would be
think eable
No idea what i just saw.
what's the purpose of the open helmet?
Dulling a good blade to carve a weak spot on a helmet - yea, that happens. LOL. Trying to look hard but end up looking like a fool.
A sharpe works just fine for such things. Then again, Real Soldiers don't fuss with such foolishness. They keep their blades sharp and their gear in good order.
The beeping on comms is a bit much.
This is a short scene about what exactly?
That's what I thought! You might need that sharp in a minute.
Genius, thank you!😄
This was a shit show. No story, absurd pod cabin, shake, shake, shake, the end. Not mentioning the stars in the background at 1 meters behind the windows. If you do crap fake stellar sky, don’t move the camera, the fake depth field is instantly recognizable otherwise.
So now I know what happened to all those useless “face shields” left over from Covid….
Ah, low budget! Notice how the helmet "actor lights" spill onto the suits. Not much use if you are in zero pressure. No worries 'tho..we see almost the same in MUCH bigger
budget shows like "The Ark." My definition: helmet with "actor lights" illuminates actor while blinding said actor to external world. Nightmare loop...but whose?
Too shaky and hard to know what was going on at all. I seen shorter films that are able to give out a story line and give enough information to the viewers to understand what is happening or what might happen. I am sure it will get beter and better with more practice
what did I just watch? something very arti party I'm avraid..
Nice. Thanks
Nice visuals, but I didn't follow what was going on in the film!
у меня вопрос только к странному сценарию.
Worried about decompression? Don't destroy the integrity of your helmet with your cc weapon... lol
So you had a small budget & 3 days...pity you didn't think to get a story beforehand
was ok. main actress was good, could have explained what happened between landing and ending up back on the ship. not sure id want to drop with her - she seems to be the only one who ever comes back.
Love to warch it! Have a nice day!
No idea what I just watched. Total waste of time. 👎👎👎👎👎
1,3K+👍's up DUST thank you for sharing 🤗
👍🏿
Im stupid and confused. Splain why shes back at the beginning?
causality loop.. ala.. star trek NG Season 5; Episode 18
She's not back at the beginning, the whole point is the call up to undertake dangerous missions is relentless. Whilst still trying to deal with what happened to her, and the fact she almost died, she's off to do it again.
The thing with combat drops is that the survivors have to do it again and again.
you block me? yt???
Excelente producción. Pero dos cosas les sugiero: - activen los subtítulos en español siempre. - Y suban más contenido utópico para que perdamos el miedo a los avances tecnológicos
Well, that Sucked. Should review this crap before you submit for viewing.😎
Well this had no point. Thanks for wasting my time. Add some info next time
Let's make a film in total darkness, and call it art!
So why do they need all the bright lights in their helmets shining on their faces, if anything thatll make their vision worse
Could have been really goid but the details ruined it for me. Sorry.
Well that was 20 minutes (I watched it twice in hopes of getting a clue) of my time I won't get back.
