  • a couple of mistakes, 10 hours, not 8 hours, and 4 filters standard fitted on the 1000D, not 3 as stated doh....Just happy to have it running again. video quality fixed..
Sometimes tracking a fault from a Radio sent to me for my collection that was supposed to be 100% are the most painful, and this radio as much as I love it, was a good example. 10 hours and thats probably a low estimate, we searched for this oscillation fault that was around 20 khz apart on most of the lower bands, so frustrating to source the problem and this one had me stumped. Instead of showing you the process of how we got to the RF unit in the end which would be a 60 min video, we are just showing a quick summary of the answer if you get a similar fault. but oh boy, we replaced a lot of suspicious components along the way thinking, this could be the answer. Truly a radio I never want to fix again but hey, they were the ultimate 1990s radio. gold embossed booklets, came standard with BFP1, TCXO1, XF-B, XF-C, XF-D, XF-E, this was cutting edge technology in the 1990s. The chap who sold it to me sold me a lemon, hopefully we now after more time than I would like to remember have turned it into a beautiful keepsake...To the seller, if you want to send me a compensation radio, feel free, all donations accepted from the seller after this time we spent on this one...And before anyone asks, its goes against everything I believe to name and shame the seller, I truly believe it is possible, the seller may not have been totally aware of the fault, and I know, I am a pushover sometimes, but life is too short for long drawn out arguments over faulty radios sent to me...And I believe he is a good guy too, so hopefully we come to an arrangement to compensate one day.,..If we had sent it to a Yaesu service centre, this was a big bucks repair on a very old radio, I know as I spoke to a, well previously Yaesu service centre tech in Australia and they admitted, not for us, too hard. They had real work on more modern radios to get done which they know well and repair in record times. An FT1000 repair is not for the faint hearted and old fart techs like me are probably better at this stuff as we serviced it in our younger years. . Since that discussion, the repair centre I spoke with are now not accepting Yaesu Service due to overload of other work they make real money on, understandable in a Covid19 environment, making a buck just got harder as a company, so good business decisions would be essential, no question. . . So where do you get a Yaesu fixed in Australia, that I don't know, not me, Im retired haha.... Note added to this video, some have asked, what the exact capacitor number is on the FT 1000 RF Board, its C7278 and when this presents a 7k resistance between Q7201 and Q7202 it causes oscillation. Sorry I should have detailed this a little more in the video, I think I was just so excited that after so many ours troubleshooting, it was fixed. ..Cheers Brenton vk3cm jdw229 pls subscribe and also feel free to join us on Facebook at Aussie Radio Pickers or vk ham sales and service anytime

This was the Common Fault in the FT1000D. Change the Cap near the 2 Sockets as well. The leaky Caps turned the circuit into a Phase Oscillator. The Filters listed on the Label are the options DSE had fitted to the Factory Base Model. This Unit had the BPF1 unit fitted by me or Chris Ayers on a Saturday Production Line. The Bottom of the Box should be Sealed with Big Blobs of Hot melt Glue.

Paul Turner -- If you don't mind which box are you referring to about hot melt glue? I love my FT1000D and taking note of this issue just in case. I see the other cap you were mentioning. Thanks for posting the info!
