  • Here is a quick video clip showing the initial test of the Yaesu FT-1000D after replacing the “LPF” Unit. This radio came to me as a Tech Special. The radio had NO/Low receive on the Main RX on any band. After researching online, I found a RUclips repair video posted by: W2AEW. His radio had a similar issue which led him to troubleshooting a failing reed relay on the LPF Unit. The LPF unit on the radio I’m repair sustained substantial damage. Quite possibly do to severe weather. I replaced the “RL7204” reed relay, (4)Schottky diodes D7201-D7204 (1ss101 no longer available) with cross reference 1N5711’s.
    Taken from internet:
    Four (4) diodes, type 1SS101, 70 Volt, ~15 mA high-speed Schottky diode.
    www.datasheets3...
NEC was the original Yaesu OEM during 1990s (they discontinued),
    NTE583 listed as substitute.
    vetco.net/prod...
Still no receiver restored. Further research found switching transistors Q7201-Q7203 possibly all faulty. I ended up purchasing a used LPF Unit on EBay from Adam Farber “Hamguy” along with several other boards which were not needed.
After replacing the LPF Unit, the radio Main RX receiver was restored and working fine.
If you are experiencing a very low receiver issue sounding like a very attenuated signal, I would suggest troubleshooting the LPF Unit with the parts listed above along with C7278 & C7288 ceramic disc capacitors.

I stumbled across your video while winding myself up to fix my FT1000D which finally developed a fault after owning it for nearly 20 years, FT8 into a doublet with very high swr on some bands has fried something, suspect a fault on the LPF board. I try not to open the radio too often, has the usual noise banker mod but a few others to do while it is in bits. My radio was imported to the UK from Adam by another famous RUclipsr who subsequently sold the radio to me. I have repaired other FT1000Ds but my own has never until now had a problem... have replaced a relay on LPF board for a friend. FWIW I have seen fried attenuator resistors from someone operating a transmitter on same site.

Turn off the radio when you are talking.

@@annpierce9046 that often offers no protection against nearby transmitters.
