Hi mate, you'd be surprised about the value.i nearly fell off my chair when I totted up my collection in excel... and that was 2 years ago pricing!
Job lots unlikely to go, but of course you weigh that up with the effort to sell each item. Happy to take a look if you have the list in excel I can give you an idea. I'd say if you advertised it as the complete set based on your Hornby layout page that you would be looking at £500-700 if you got the right buyer, but perhaps more if selling off individual items. 🎉🎉

@HauntedRailway1820 I didn't realise there was a limit on comments, sorry if that's the case, it's nothing I've done. I hope to be at the NEC next year. Key Model World Live was brilliant and I might be at the National Festival of Railway Modelling in November.

This my opinion, and it is just that...... I have been buying and watching this kind of stuff on ebay for a while and I would suggest that the first thing that you have to decide is if you want to 'sit' on them at all, i.e. you might get higher prices if you are prepared to list them for a long time. In terms of value, I would suggest the Hornby coaches £5-£10 each, the Lima tankers probably £3 each on a good day (they are not prototypical), the Amey Roadstone hoppers £5-10 each. The Lima class 09 probably £20, Triang Dock shunter £15, Triang class 31 £15, Hornby class 86 £25-£30, Flying Scotsman £20-£30, no idea on the Princess Royal to be honest. The two operating accessories might top over £30 each on a good day. I've seen them go for anything from £15 - £50 depending on if two people want it at the same time. The steel track and R900 are just junk really, however the Zero 1 is getting a bit of retro popularity fad at the moment so could be worth something. The buildings would cost more to post than you would get for them probably.
If I was a reseller, unless I was local, I probably wouldn't spend the petrol money to come and see the lot unless I knew it was going to be really cheap. A reseller or model shop would want to pay between 50-70 percent of realistic value, minus any costs associated with collecting and processing. By realistic value I mean that say a loco that they might advertise for £45 they probably would take a lot less for, or have to factor in the possibility of it not selling. So they might consider it £45 top price, £30 realistic value, so they might give you £15-£20 for it. What a loco is advertised for is not what they necessarily sell it for.
In the retail world (or at least the one I used to work in) as an example we would work on the following basis. If it costs a manufacture £20 to make something they will sell it to you for £40 and you would try and sell it for £60. There are of course variations in that, as say a small shop would probably have to pay the manufacture £50 because they are not buying much, with a large retailer getting it for £40 if they do a stocking plan, stocking the entire range. If items do not sell well then you will often find the manufacture offering a rebate against some items on new orders, hence why you suddenly see the same items massively discounted across the entire trade. They haven't all decided at once, it's just they have all been offered a rebate at the same time.
    Hope all this is useful.

My estimates if sold on Ebay. Also depends on if you auction or sell at a fixed price, condition, etc.
    1) R401 Intercity HST set: £40-70 perhaps less if they need converting from Zero1.
    2) Old hornby coaches, boxed and in good condition tend to go for £10-15 each, if sold individually. A bit less if as a rake. so £50-90 for all 6
    3) Conveyer set. These are quite sought after especially if boxed, complete, working and undamaged. I've seen these go for £50-100ish assuming the above and depending on if you auction or sell at a fixed price.
    4) Tipper set: Depends on condition, etc as above. Maybe £30-60?
    5) Lima Amoco tankers £10-15 each if sold individually, a bit less if sold as a rake. £40-75
    6) ARC Amey wagons £5-15 each. £45-90
    7) Hornby R296 tracker cleaner £5-15
    8) Hornby R396 Flying Scotsman. Loads of these were made so £30-60 less if untested and zero1 chip needs removing.
    9) Lima shunter: As it's untested and may need conversion from zero1 £20-40ish if auctioned?
    10) Hornby R516 Diesel Maintenance Depot: £20-30
    11) Hornby R524 Booking Hall: £12-20
    12) Hornby R523 Waiting Room: £8-15
    13) Hornby R657 Girder Bridge: £5-10 each if boxed.
    14) Hornby R505 Water Tower: £5-10
    15) Hornby R410 Turntable. These sell for a wide range of figures Assuming you have all the little tracks and it's undamaged, but you don't have the box and depending on if if you auction or sell at a fixed price: Anything from £10-40ish?
    16) Hornby R050 LMS class 7P Loco 'The Princess Royal; £50-70. Less if untested and zero1 chip needs removing.
    17) Points motors. On their own £2-5 each. If you can match up the levers and include connecting wires £5-10ish each?
    18) Canopies with supports, maybe £5 each? £5-10 with a platform?
    19) Triang R357 Diesel Loco D5572: Because it's untested and may need converting from zero1 £15-25ish?
    20) Hornby R360 BR Class 86/2: As untested and zero1 £25-40ish?
    21) Triang Hornby Operating Royal Mail Coach: £5-10 If you can find the accessories then £20ish.
    22) Triang Blue Pullman: £15-30ish?
    23) Triang R253dock authority Shunter: Working ones go for £20ish so £5-10?
    24) Hornby R900 power controller: These go from £5-25. Say £15 ish?
    25) 7 unboxed old wagons, etc. As an auctioned job lot: Anything from £20-40 ish?
    26) Zero1 controller: £10-15
    30) Platforms: see 18) I'd suggest adding the canopies and supports and breaking into a few smaller lots.
    31) Steel track: I'd suggest breaking it down into a few smaller lots e.g. points, curves, straights, etc rather than one big job lot. Auction prices for track vary quite a bit and steel track isn't especially sought after, but maybe £10ish per lot if split into a few lots?
    32) Platform accessories, ballast, etc. Hard to estimate I'd split them into lots of similar items and put up for auction and see what you get. Sell the footbridge separately should get £10-20 for that?
    33) Wiring. If you can match some with the points motors and switches I'd do so. For the rest just auction and see what you can get.
N.B. Zero1 chipped loco: I'd consider removing the chips and selling them as a separate job lot and seeing if you can get the locos working on analogue. I'm no expert on Zero 1 so not sure how easy or not that is.
Based on previous ebay sales My total estimate: Anywhere from £600- 1200
A lot depends on your sales strategy. Whether you decide to auction or sell at a fixed price, sell as large job lots/rakes or sell them as individual items/smaller lots. Also if you match up items like point motors, switches and wires, platforms and canopies. And how you decide to sell the Zero1 locos. As they are, or with chips removed and if you can get them working on analogue.
If you go to a model shop or dealer you'll get a lot less. Also depends on their strategy some buy low and sell at competitive prices, other will give you a bit more but sell high. You basically take a big hit for them doing all the work.
    Hope that's helpful..

Hi, great to see the older Hornby and Lima equipment from a time when most model railway items were eye openers, I have a large collection of Hornby Zero 1 items all in original boxes and in mint condition along with many locomotives and carriages, it doesn’t float my boat like the newer rolling stock you can get now, your uncle has a very interesting collection that many modellers would love to get their hands on, model shops will give you low prices for a majority of the items then sell them off for good money, i no longer trade items in because you really can get taken advantage of because it’s old, best bet is to see how your items fair on eBay or other auction houses that could generate so genuine interest and get you a realistic price for the items you have, thanks for sharing.

Hi Rob; well you are about to undertake one of the hardest things re a model railway - what’s it worth, truely worth. Many of the items will still be useable to someone and others are worth keeping for yourself. The action sets will be a great play; need to set them up carefully to use at its best. The coaches should all be about £10 min each especially as they as boxed; the locos well that’s if they work and the old Zero wired. But with a little work they could be up and running again for years to come. The track !! Steel rather than nickel, well I think it’s still useable; people out there may have magnadhegion ?? Well you know what I mean lol. The larger stores may offer a couple hundred as they need to look for a possible profit margins. It’s what it’s worth to someone else; the platforms and building will be worth something to someone who looks a building and era of manufacturing eg 1980-1985 and looks for items available in those years. Others may look at models from years gone bye. I’m thinking maybe £250-£300 if sold the lot but there are items you may wish to retain. Can’t wait to hear what feed back you get, all the best Marc from Leighton Buzzard.

The coal conveyor and tipper are accessories that a friend of mine had when I was a child. Perhaps surprisingly, they worked very well as I recall. I've no idea if there's any monetary value to it, I guess there are collectors who will buy any Hornby stuff that's pretty much mint in box.

  • @treblebass6721
    @treblebass6721 5 часов назад +1

The loco with the pantograph is probably worth in excess of £70 on it's own. The worn Pullman £25 - £30. Not sure the coaches are worth £10 each, probably a little less. That tipper/conveyor set might be quite collectable so I'd get that valued separately. So, not including the conveyor/tipper I'd value the rest around £400 as a job lot (the steel track has little value).

I guess the shop will offer you £250, individual sale £350, prices have gone up for secondhand stuff as a reaction on the price increase for new stuff, so I might be wrong, it could also be less, as a lot of loco's need the Zero one stuff to be removed, this will devalue them.

I couldn't guess a price on it as things like this are ridiculously overpriced in Australia, but I can say there is definitely a market for older steel track, particularly among the Triang and early Hornby enthusiasts. Triang and early Hornby had a thing called Magnahesion which just won't work on more modern, non-steel tracks. Some model railway events will have stands where these things can be sold, and that may be an option as well, unless you want to just get rid of it quick as a job lot. Sure, it would take a bit of time cleaning it all up, but I think majority of the items, although well used, would clean up pretty good. Be amazing how good they can look with the dust and grime cleaned off, even if a bit worn from use.

@@williamscates3915 yeah as a trader myself I understand that some lima locos such as the 08/09s and steamers can be cheaper, however lima diesel locomotives do average around the £50 mark as when you detail them properly they are just as good as some of the newer Bachmann / Hornby locomotives, Hornby still makes lima designed locomotives for their railroad range showing how ahead of their time lima really was! when you compare the locomotives Hornby made back then to the lima counterparts its amazing how good the lima locomotives are!
with a model shop only offering you £15 for a lima locomotive I'm presuming that they are relatively small and don't do online sales as from personal experience lima locos sell quick as they are cheap, well detailed for the money, and rather reliable, though not all traders / model shops are as honest as I am with pricing (I don't like the idea of scamming people).
