is that an rbxjm2? I'm just going by the infinity inlays. Also, is your picking hand doing the circular motion instead of straight down and back? Either way nice work
@HeavenFort i don't understand why musicians are "respected" more for playing the same thing in a more difficult manner. as long as it sounds the same, what's the difference?
i play both - and going back and forth regularly feels weird for the first couple times you sweep on each one after playing the other one. After that it feels normal though.
Thats brilliant man, try doing it with your fingers instead of a pick, gets a better sound and allows you to tap notes into the sweep as well! great playing tho!
Regardless if he's using a pick, holy shit that would be hard to do on those strings. Fucking nicely done. Bass like this sounds nice actually too, listen to Protest the Hero.
ok, it's your opinion. I don't think that bass is a lead instrument, but between whiles I like play solos in lead guitar style. A lot of good bassists do that. It's a thing that someone like and someone not.
and you have to press harder on the strings. Not to mention the fact that the strings are way bigger than a guitar, which is strange when trying to sweep at first.
I don't have the tab, but the pattern is pretty simple. Start from the D scale: 1th, 3th major, 5th, then repeat theese notes on the higher octave. And continue with the same pattern for the A#, C, A. D....A#....C....A.... enjoy!!
No its actually easier on bass because you dont have to worry about overbleeding as much due to the strings being farther apart. Stamina is the only thing harder about bass.
well, you heard wrong. there are plenty of 3 string arpeggios you can do. One of the easiest i've heard is in Bleeding Mascara by Atreyu - its a three string arpeggio with a hammer on (or a tap if you want to make it look harder).
@bitethis47 no, these are regular sweep arpeggios...3/4 fingers, but i didn't do it very well cause i did it too fast...look the last video for better execution
Slatan420.... it's not a question of music boundaries, as you can see from the bass player I quoted, there are many extremist... the point is that, as I'm sure you know, music is colours, feelings, not just tecnique, especially if the tecnique is not applyed to music. Playing random notes is useless, what I asked was just to show the tecnique on a music contest and demonstrate that the bass can still have is role in a band without be "another guitar"
damn , your realy good. and i only have a 4string bass, for a 6string , what would you realy say it its , you know , like a more wider tone or something.
well bass solos and playing a meldoic bass line are good, but I can't really see this adding to the music, especially when it's much easier to do on synth...
that's why i asked him "Build a chords progression and play over them." so we can really understand if it is just tecnique or if there is a practical use of SW on a bass... Personally every solo whithout music has no reason to exist. you wanna talk abbout music and solo tecnique on the bass? please refer to bass players like pastorius, mark king, alan caron, steve bailey, anthony jackson, markus miller, michael manring, tony levin, stu hamm and so forth... Have a nice day mate...
whats with the dum coments about guitars, its the same old when some one lurns the bass properly it shows up the naff guitar players. and by the way its a bass guitar so he is using a type of guitar grow up. new playing man keep it up
JaysonC117, dude you have no idea the intricacies of bass. Yes there are awesome guitar riffs, but dood there are some bass lines that guitarist cant barely play dood. Ever listen to "Laberinto" by "Hiroshima Will Burn"??
Don't think that. To dominate an instrument require a lot of years of practice. When I see a good player I think that if he learned to play as well, me too will be able to learn as him! Think positive.
Nothing is wrong, but there is no music on the video, the sound is not always clear, and i cannot see a pratical use of the SP tecnique. Build a chords progression and play over them. There is another video from that guy that is more interesting. He uses tapping tecnique there... Do you like lead tecnique on the bass? have a look for a video called abe laborierl bass solo
Sounds like tuning a radio! XD - it was great!
is that an rbxjm2? I'm just going by the infinity inlays. Also, is your picking hand doing the circular motion instead of straight down and back? Either way nice work
Dude I have honestly never seen that before that was really cool. good job :)
If you look carefully it's 4 strings sweeps. They are major shapes 1th, 3th,5th and 1th 3th 5th on the higher octave. It's 6 notes sweep pattern.
yo man,
that bit from like 33 seconds on,is that anything?
i really wanna learn it!!!
you got tabs?
Sweeping on bass like in this video is really hard to do....without a pick especially...and without a pick, in my opinion, sounds way better.
What kind of bass are you using there? I've been looking for a damn good six string to better my warwick 5.
are you using a pick or your fingers? if you are (using your fingers) can you make a video or reffer me to one that shows your right had please
@HeavenFort i don't understand why musicians are "respected" more for playing the same thing in a more difficult manner. as long as it sounds the same, what's the difference?
sweeping was really good dude! I love that shit!
Those were just basic 3 string sweeps right? It was excellent, but I was curious. Major shapes?
more interested in the right hand
LOL!!
You sweep better on bass, than I do on guitar..xD
@aidange2 the point is to do it with the instruments, and i dont see why bands shouldnt do it, sounds awesome
i think my ears just came hahah thanks for the inspiration! itd be hella awesome if you put up some sweeping lessons to man
Is that John Myung's Bass Guitar?????????
REALLY clean. You're great at bass.
i play both - and going back and forth regularly feels weird for the first couple times you sweep on each one after playing the other one. After that it feels normal though.
Thats brilliant man, try doing it with your fingers instead of a pick, gets a better sound and allows you to tap notes into the sweep as well! great playing tho!
yeah it's Jhon Myung signature bass (rbxjm1, the first model), my right hand is just doing straight up/down strokes.
i have never been a firm believer of using a pick for bass but hot damn you could convert a non-believer.
are you using a pick? if you are its still increadable, just wondering
I love bass sweeps, it's really vocal- similar to violin.
oh my fucking god
That would be a kick ass bass sweeping in a power metal song
So because he supposedly moved his head "too fast" once, he's obviously cheating. Yeah, sure...
I don't call you jealous, I call you stupid.
It's a thing that someone like and someone not.
holy smokes, hope I can get to your level one day buddy. amazing.
waaww!! bass 6 stirngs lol
mann ur awesome 0_0!
how do you pick while sweep picking on bass without using a pick? I anyone can give any tips.
The last part of the video is a part of bass solo that I played in past in my ex-band. Not a metal band, but a punk-hardcore band!
try to use a soft pick (max 1 mm), and exercise to stroke up and down the strings until the sound is fluid and clear
my head asplode.!>.!.!!>!!
PS, nice Myung symbol thing on the neck bro
It seems you've never seen sweeping... look also my other video...sweep picking version of Burn solo...and tell me if it's sped up!
When will you start to play music?
I think that for some type of sounds the pick is needed!
and you have to press harder on the strings. Not to mention the fact that the strings are way bigger than a guitar, which is strange when trying to sweep at first.
Yamaha Jhon Myung signature bass.
If you want a six string look for Yamaha, they are the best.
I don't have the tab, but the pattern is pretty simple. Start from the D scale:
1th, 3th major, 5th, then repeat theese notes on the higher octave.
And continue with the same pattern for the A#, C, A.
D....A#....C....A.... enjoy!!
Dude do you have any tabs for this?
Thanks!
It's six string bass (John Myung -rbx6).
simply amazing.
No its actually easier on bass because you dont have to worry about overbleeding as much due to the strings being farther apart. Stamina is the only thing harder about bass.
It's Yamaha 6 strings John Myung model played on a Line6 Pod XT live
I tried sweeping 6 strings, maybe I will post something in future...when I can do it clean!!
no, but it's simple. I'm just playing 1st, 3rd and 5th of the 2 octave major scale transposed all over the manic
well, you heard wrong. there are plenty of 3 string arpeggios you can do. One of the easiest i've heard is in Bleeding Mascara by Atreyu - its a three string arpeggio with a hammer on (or a tap if you want to make it look harder).
I don't have the tab, I was just playing some major scale patterns (1th 3th and 5th)
how can I meet you! I want to learn from you
aaannndd I just jizzed my pants... yup.
The first part is fucking sweet.
Cool, man. Not into the whole pick thing, but cool.
@bitethis47 no, these are regular sweep arpeggios...3/4 fingers, but i didn't do it very well cause i did it too fast...look the last video for better execution
mode?
Slatan420.... it's not a question of music boundaries, as you can see from the bass player I quoted, there are many extremist... the point is that, as I'm sure you know, music is colours, feelings, not just tecnique, especially if the tecnique is not applyed to music. damn , your realy good. and i only have a 4string bass, for a 6string , what would you realy say it its , you know , like a more wider tone or something.
Very very good! thank you
your sick and you've got skills but at first i thought some one was farting
sounds kinda like with passion /conducting from the grave type sweeps...but on bass...crazy
I honestly don't know...and I wasn't talking about how the bass was built I meant what the bass is meant to do musically...
are you playing with a pick?
...tabs included.
what the fuck ever
hahah i was just about to say that.. i find it sounds fuller than a guitar sweep. sounds classical
1 Learn what sweeps your doing
2 Drop the pick
3 Use your pinkie
well bass solos and playing a meldoic bass line are good, but I can't really see this adding to the music, especially when it's much easier to do on synth...
It sounds cool, but there are plenty people on youtube that do it with all 6/7 strings
dude, thats awesome.
in melodic/technical death/black metal this is used all the time
that's why i asked him "Build a chords progression and play over them." so we can really understand if it is just tecnique or if there is a practical use of SW on a bass...
Have a nice day mate...
wow it looks like its in fast forward. nice man :)
I'm not enjoying while listening to this, I just admire his technical skills.
whats with the dum coments about guitars, its the same old when some one lurns the bass properly it shows up the naff guitar players. and by the way its a bass guitar so he is using a type of guitar grow up. new playing man keep it up
fine, whatever floats your boat...
you use a pick?
your really freekin good.
ROFL snoop!!!
haha good observation lol
@JamesG335 So? He could change the stge for bassists.
JaysonC117, dude you have no idea the intricacies of bass. Yes there are awesome guitar riffs, but dood there are some bass lines that guitarist cant barely play dood. Ever listen to "Laberinto" by "Hiroshima Will Burn"??
He secretly wants to play the guitar, but his father forced him to play the bass, poor man.
amazing!
ultimate shredddeerrrr
OK, that's cool, but it doesn't really seem neccesary, especially when you can do it with a synthesizer...
Don't think that. To dominate an instrument require a lot of years of practice. When I see a good player I think that if he learned to play as well, me too will be able to learn as him!

have a look for a video called abe laborierl bass solo
@aqlpskwo you mean sped up??? lol
Nice Myung bass!
NICE!
Awesome playing. Man you got some really skinny fingers.
You've got to realize that guitarists always hide behind a wall of distortion.
i got to say pretty borring the same stuff over and over but... the sweep technique is pretty clean and sounded good man keep up
That was fucking sick.
are you a bassist/guitarist hehehe
When I first saw this technique on a vid by Alexi Laiho I almost jumped off the window
Doesn't look sped up to me.
That's very good sir
great!!!!
noo, its not, its his bass, john myung has his own bass. J/K
same model
wow, pick up guitar, i bet u would make an awesome one XD
oh , ok, i just wasn't too shure on it. thanks
