    First of all good job on the video. I liked it. Why? Because its thorough, and you clearly deserve my like for taking your time time to produce it.
    Second, on a more personal note, I used to be in a metal band. It's funny but I realize how much Fat Mike influenced my bass playing and tone even if I was in a "metal" band. It was freaking punkish.

    • @mitch84Bass
      @mitch84Bass  8 лет назад +2

      +sinn633 I agree with you. I play in a metal band, but I've got totally influenced by fat mike in my early years of learning playing bass. I think Mike was one of the first punkers who wanted really to stop sucking at playing music, and that was the key to the success for Nofx and many other bands from fat wreck chords. Sadly, in a way, this is possibly what actually killed "punk rock", because the generations after them were a lot better musicians thanks to their influences. And when you mix good playing with good sense of music, usually the result is something more complicated than punk, and so metal-core, new-metal, extreme tech metal came out....

    People always mention Matt Freeman as far as Punk bassists, Fat Mike is just as good, if not better. Yes Mike has never really had a solo as mind blowing as "Maxwell Murder", but his bass lines are great!

    • @billymcdonald510
      @billymcdonald510 6 лет назад +8

      Slippy Jones Fat Mike has way more groove than Freeman.
      Freeman knows his scales and plays them REALLY FAST.
      Mike plays with more feel and emotion. Well thought-out riffs.
      Basically, like you said, Freeman is good, but Mike is better. I think he’s underrated because he’s such a jerk.

    • @michelegrassi4385
      @michelegrassi4385 5 лет назад +1

      both great players, in my opinon they are the 2 best punk bass players: Freeman plays faster or at least more technical basslines than Fat Mike because he doesn't sing as Fat Mike does.
      On the other hand, Fat Mike has more groove when he plays in the instrumental parts.

    What settings do you use to get his tone?

    • @mitch84Bass
      @mitch84Bass  8 лет назад +4

      With Line6 Mesa amp simulation and distortion pedal simulation with 25% overdrive. EQ with a lot of bass and treble. This will get you a cool versatile tone. Playing gently the tone is clean, when you want more distortion you play stronger.

      Thanks! Nicely done. And on a 5 string no less. I was a little hesitant to see NOFX played on a 5 string to be hones, but you pulled it off like a champ.
