I wholeheartedly agree with you on the Hidden Side set. Pros: the color scheme, cons: everything else 😄the fact that it's already retired and not really discounted anymore kept me from getting and modifying it, I also never realized how short it is until know. the litte stop with a shed that comes with the set seems nice though if you take the monster bits out
Not sure about the bright red, kind gives it a black and red tartan plaid look. Also, maybe incorporating that glow in the dark green into the headlights or somewhere else? I do like that color added to the black, gold and dark red.
I bought that set for the same reason, because of how cool the locomotive looked. Had the exact same disappointment once I built it. This looks amazing. I'd love to see your take on a variant of the 10133 BNSF locomotive, or the 10219 Maersk. Rather than build either of them directly since they're so expensive, a re-color and redesign would be really interesting.
I looked into the BNSF but the Maersk is super cool because of its stickers and colours if you ask me. Should've bought it new from LEGO when I had the chance!
Lovely unit there. Lots of good name opportunities. The Transylvania Express, The Red Baron (Just watch out for Snoopy to shoot you down), Mammoth or Big Bertha if you want to have the monster size in the mix.
Thanks for the great train build video. I had just asked you about a train build from scratch and BAM! Here it is. You had already it stoked and ready to go!
Robin it never ceases to amaze me how you can take a Lego designed set build and blow it out of the water. This Locomotive looks fantastic and modern while adhering to the spirit of the original set. So well done!
Compare this to some of the (mechanically accurate) steam locomotives built by Martins Noppenstein Eisenbahn und Strassenbahn. It's not remotely looking 'fantastic' if put up against the work of a high level brick train designer.
I love this!! My first thought was that this train is a real brute! So I say "Brutus". Thank you for your sharing your amazing journey with Lego. I look forward to every video!!
I think the name Lord Newbury would be great. Shows its power and its origins from Hidden Side. Could possibly even do sticker surgery to take the name off the Newbury station sign.
Looking good! Bought the Hidden Side set because I really liked the basic design from the locomotive. Always been planning to modify it to something like this, so many thanks for the ideas.
I actually got this set for a gift when it first came out in 2019, personally I think it looks a lot better in person that BL designer renders because the program renders everything in a flat unshaded tone (which is good and a very useful feature, don't get me wrong) The gaps in the side panels are surprisingly very minimal and relatively unnoticeable unless you're actively trying to see them (like holding it up to light to see through) and the mouth part holds shut pretty well on its own since the structure is more than heavy enough to not open and flap about like you say it does around 2:57, also it's built in a similar fashion to the recent Lego Countach doors, so it somwhat "locks" in place as well due to the mechanism actually pushing out and up to open it rather than a simple up and down hinge. I'm not so sure what you meant about the rubbish wheels though, my set came with steel axles and while not the most glamorous, they're far better than the plastic ones seen more recently in sets like the Orient Express. Overall this is still a good moc though, cool to see someone make the engine actually functional while giving it a little fresh redesign
@@RobinHoodBricks No problem and yeah, I agree with you there, I found it odd it didn't have magnets either and I do agree with much of what you said. Just wanted to give some minor bits of info and small corrections since this video actually made me pick the set up off of my shelf to compare lol As I said before you made an incredible moc, it honestly inspires me to have a go at making my own version, I think it'd be a fun challenge to try and keep if not incorporate the play features of the set too
I recommend doing a B unit for this because this is based on an American emd f7A so it would look more realistic with a B unit which is a locomotive with no cab and an engine so it can haul a lot more!🎉 Also name idea, big rusty? Because the dark red looks like rust?😂

Im so glad that you've modified this train, ever since the original came out I wanted it, but hesitated for the same reasons. It's such a beautiful modded train. Name suggestion: The monster Train conductor suggestion: you should have a regular train conductor uniform, but with a skeleton or zombie head, it would tie in both with your city and where the og set came from
Red Specter. That should be it’s name. But what will be the engineer’s name? How about Tony Macafee? Yes, Red Specter, driven by Tony Macafee. That sounds nice. One thing though, do you need a bigger shed for all these engines? I know you said you didn’t need a narrow gauge shed, but what about a standard gauge shed? One with three bays instead of the one bay on that BLDP shed? Let me know. Rockatoa, Brickticks out!
The dark red and bright red together somehow give it a metallic look, cool! or maybe that's just your cameras, lol. Call it "The Coffin" or "the Casket" or something about blood, maybe
I bought the set for 50% off and motorized it back in 2020 with one engine and reused the container and the bogies in addition to a Lego city cargo set to build a small cargo terminal. Really nice set.
1. How about "slider" because its from hidden side. Or 2. "Phantom 308" lore of the name is because everyone thinks its haunted. So the railroad company added the "77" part to the train to try and make people leave it alone. Even though it looks similar to a locomotive that is very much hunted elsewhere. This one is just the stronger horsepower model compared to the haunted one. Lol. 3. No matter what. The name needs to be something kinda Halloween like. Because of where its base from. Honestly. It just wont fit right if it wasn't something Halloween like name.
@@RobinHoodBricks Good point. Maybe the name isn’t haunted, but it contains the ghosts of the previous driver and engineer, along with the occupants of a car they hit one day. The train is mysteriously reliable. Never wanting to die, even after it had parts start falling off.
The electric train almost looks like it would go on the monorail. The original monster one looked more like a tour bus in digital designer when compared to the trains. I think it looks pretty good but maybe needs a touch more of the brassy gold on the front. They have some teeth pieces in that color that could maybe look like tubes to a large exhaust or engine. If they have a round crank wheel like on the underwater base, that may look good as a detail on the back door of the engine. Maybe see how it looks with a gold vent instead of the red one? It just feels like it needs a touch of something in that area. For an operator maybe the ghost guy in the red suit from the set?
Just beware that when you stop a long cargotrain it might derail in the curves, I got 3 locos pulling about 40 cars where I stop them 1 at a time to bring it to a gentle stop😊
Building lego locomotor I use PF too. I use a motion inverter (the PF switch) for one of the two motors and then I connect them to the IR receiver on the same position, on the other I put two pairs of LEDs, a white pair in front and a pair behind with 1x1 circular transparent red bricks 😊
Its a nice looking loco. surprised you are still using LDD instead of Studio. And hopefully that ir received gets the signal as the top part seems to be a bit below the rest of the studs around it.
The colour scheme reminds me of Basil the bat lord, so I vote for Basil as the name for this excellent new locomotive! (Works with the hidden side/monster connection as well)
‘The Arizona’ My suggestion might seem strange but look up the ‘the red ghost’. It’s a cryptid from the old west, a giant red camel being ridden by a skeleton!
Is Red Hulk available for the name of the train? Also you can recolor the Maersk train to azure or some other blue variety and get stickers that match the new color. It is much cheaper without the official color as the remaining parts are common.
@@RobinHoodBricks .. I bought it to turn it into a Bat-train 🤫 .. and also to got this piece to get the train on the tracks .. and because the train employees are awesome .. and I like ghosts 👻 .. Hidden side got good designs

Two Koploper end units where turned into rail measuring trains, no connecting wagon. One thing is certain, it would give you a different look, in terms of trains.' As for that green one you don't have, get three, so you can make it into a three unit setup, like how in Sweden, a metal ore freight train is pulled by a A unit, B unit and a reverse A unit. That would give you a unit with six engines. lol
The Koploper is a passengier trein, a three unit setup, normally. Yet it's looks are quite different to your current treins, so it might be a idea, right?
The dark red and black colour scheme reminds me of a vampire, so maybe it should be called the Count, or the Baron?

Count Rufus (means boy with red hair) should be fitting name.
The baron is very nice. The ghost would be lovely as well

A ghost driver sounds fun and I love the Koploper. It's cool!
Two Koploper end units where turned into rail measuring trains, no connecting wagon.
One thing is certain, it would give you a different look, in terms of trains.'
As for that green one you don't have, get three, so you can make it into a three unit setup, like how in Sweden, a metal ore freight train is pulled by a A unit, B unit and a reverse A unit.
That would give you a unit with six engines. lol
Very cool but on this plastic track I'm gonna space them all out I think. Power distribution, haha!
The Koploper is a passengier trein, a three unit setup, normally.
Yet it's looks are quite different to your current treins, so it might be a idea, right?
This looks amazing is there anyway to get the list of parts used please?
The Ghoul
Spooky!
Name suggestion: 'The Spectre'.
Great name. Love the Radiohead track of the same name!
El Diablo or maybe Pyroclast (type of lava rock) for the train name
El Diablo is a fun one!
