Looks a bit like they partly modeled this one after a Japanese Shinkansen. The faster models tend to have longer noses that are shaped to reduce the 'sonic boom' that happens when the lead car enters or exits a tunnel. Engineers apparently studied species of kingfisher birds to help develop the shape. The split in the front curve of the nose also emulates the real thing, since there is an aerodynamic cover that splits in two to reveal the coupler. Even still, I think Lego could have done a better job of emulating the shape but that's probably why they look the way they do.

Its complaining about studs showing, stickers, and piece count per price.
And all their solutions would just make the price go up do to increased pieces, increase molds, increasing pad printing usage.

Honestly this is one of my favorite train designs that Lego has put out, especially in recent years. Absolutely love that it draws inspiration from the Shinkansens with the angular design of the engine car, and its a very good color scheme as well. Also, you can easily take all those tracks out of the stack by pulling on the bottom-most rail, the one that has the base of the poles visible! I learned that trick after buying a second one to have a full-length train and create a track that runs around the floor of my bedroom...

It actually seemed like you really liked it! And thanks for showing the programming side I had no idea! I'm gonna have to try it. I agree the nose looks bad but overall it's one of the best, the tinted windows are great.
The extra straight tracks I believe are because the train is advertised as being fast and a single loop would derail at max speed - it can still derail even with the full set.
The curves on the edges aren't good enough for the carriages not touching btw, if you try elevate any track build with a turn they will touch each other.
Try get energizer rechargeable AAA's, I did just for these sets and I tested them vs dispensable premium Duracell AAA and they measured up well, max speed is still reached even with the slightly less voltage.

The powered tracks had issues because you had to build a close loop and avoid shortcuts while laying tracks, that's why they moved back to battery powered trains. But when the tracks was powered you still could battery power the trains if you wanted to, but then without control. Also the powered tracks kind of degrade over time making it harder to make a complete circuit between the tracks.

I do think the 9 v system is much better because of not having batteries go flat every few hours. But they could have the best of both worlds, bring back 9v powered track with the big yellow dial that plugs into the wall, but with either an integrated DCC system or Bluetooth to send control signals to any number of trains. But still, even if they chose not to do that I still much prefer the 9v system with it's big control dial and infinite full power. Batteries suck!

I actually think the ability to use replaceable AAA batteries is probably better for the environment assuming users use replaceable batteries. Having user replaceable batteries makes it easier to keep the rest of the product working for longer. Convenience does degrade by using AAA but it’s kind of like the Xbox vs PlayStation controller debate.

There's a guy (also on RUclips) called Bevin's Bricks, and he sells metal wheeled power pickup accessories with Power Functions wire attachments.
It's a possibility, not sure if it'll work, but I may be able to set something up that has the metal wheels to draw power from the track into the engine, and have some sort of switch similar to the Powered Up battery box/hub that pairs with the controller to only let the power slow when I press the controller buttons.

You can easily convert plastic tracks to 9V track with some 1/4 inch copper foil tape. Also, rechargeable AAA batteries do exist and I recommend you get some. I think using AAA batteries is better than a proprietary rechargeable battery because if Lego stopped making/selling them, then you'd still be able to easily find compatible batteries.
All the different systems have their advantages and disadvantages, but my personal favorite is Power Functions followed by 9V then Powered Up.
I dislike how Lego didn't make Powered Up easily backwards compatible with Power Functions. Their official solution is to use a Powered Up Hub connected to a Powered Up Color & Distance Sensor to send signals to Power Functions IR Receiver connected to a Power Functions Battery Box, which means you have to use even more batteries. 🤦‍♂

The nose won't work on our tunnels but it does look like some High-speed trains do. That said, I still think Lego should go back to 9v but marry it to Blue-Tooth for the best overall performance. Lego likes to say they are going green.... but thousands of batteries in dumps says different. 9v is still my favorite system and it is a green system. They can always have track made in different countries to make them affordable like they already do with some other pieces like Legs for some minifigures.
9v with Blue-tooth would give us the functionality of the old 12v but with a lot more power. You can even use 9v motors to power PF-motors if they go back to the old way of making connectors match. The best of every Lego Train functions. Lionel and tons of regular Train ppl make money every year.... lego needs to stop thinking tinker-toy and start thinking Model Training to make this really take off.
They could even have model trains running around the upper ceiling of their stores for kids to get excited about trains!!!

Disagree the new Lego City Powerd Up works much better than both 9v and power functions in practice but has its flaws 9v you do need a lot of power stations to keep a big layout supplied power functions you have to be directly on top of it. The set itself is solid first time in a long while lego made a brick-built cab design and I would only make one or two small changes to the coaches. You can combine 9v and power functions I took my own train small steam engine and tender and gave it Powerd Up lights and motor it has a controller and works very well on big layouts i use rechargeable batteries for saving money

The doors on mine don't stay closed, every time the train goes around a corner they swing open! The Powered Up Bluetooth also has problems in crowded environments (like model train shows) as all the interference from other people's phones reduces the range to only a couple feet! Power Functions had its issues too, requiring line of sight and limited range, but at least the trains didn't stop if they lost connection.

I also happen to dislike this train quite a bit, but for different reasons. Mainly, it has, yet again, no second 'loco' (steering unit) which makes it very unrealistic. I very much preffer the old 2014 and 2010 trains with one coach but the two steering units.
As for the common critisisim of the fact the new trains include batteries, I happen to like that quite a lot, since it allows for operating multiple trains on one track at the same time, which is more fun! But yes, it does mean the locos have to be bigger to fit the batteries, which sucks

Although the batteries are a big con, the powered up system does have alot of pro's. You are litteraly getting the DCC equivalent of Lego trains: you can drive multiple trains at different speeds on your layout.

Recently I had gotten the technic garbage truck an it was missing the sticker sheet lol... had to order one from lego.
Edit: It appears the train runs on 9 volts and each battery is 1.5 volts. Also the remote appears to be 6 volts.

0:47 wait until you see 12v even though I don't have any 12v trains I've seen videos of it and It sounds great not only that the trains look great. Even though it will probably cost you an arm and a leg it will probably be worth the cost. And also you are able to make alternative models if you don't like the main model.

personally even though this train is great ,well for me anyway, its got the nose problem its not the curved pieces and angle or what not but its the windshield piece they used I think it would've been better if they made a new mod so it would align with the side of the nose front, but thats just my opinion.

I like the possibilities Pybricks adds to the new hub. Especially since you can also send packets to non-LEGO micropython controllers. This means being able to automatically control rail crossings etc. from the train's position.

found it for 114.99 on sale at Walmart, what yer think, should I get it? Also they have the three star wars display sets Tantive IV and Falcon 75375 with 30% off but they still seem real expensive considering the size is so small, but the Tantive with 654 and Falcon 921 pieces??? They must be REALLY SMALL pieces to get those piece counts at this size.

@@brickstudiosYT I got it...its so good im getting another two so I can motorize my BNSF and santa fe that I never got motors for, cant say im impressed with the new no axel wheels though. 9volt maybe a "better" system but it killed Lego trains because it was so so expensive, cost a fortune for a mid sized track. I had the cash back then and even I could not justify the amount you had to spend for a tiny track. There is another timeline where Lego decided to throw in 3X more track in the box and charge half as much and EVERYONE has a great 9volt setup and trains rule the planet...unfortunately we do not live in that timeline. didnt bother with the star wars stuff, I now hate star wars after this last tv show I saw...and I thought book of boba fett was bad, come back boba, all is forgiven!...Its now trains all the way.

But when we get Wi-fi or betther solution for motors or batery box is in the stars. RC Tracks are basic, only 1 inresting part is retaired and second hand market cost 1 kidney.
