How to Unlock Old Naxxramas! Wards of the Dread Citadel Achievement!

- Once you complete this achievement you can run Old Naxxramas for transmog and recipes that were removed from the game. You can also do other things like craft Tier 3 armor that was removed and add a few things to your collection.
Things You Need
You need to be at least Honored with the Argent Dawn.
You will need to have unlocked the Old Scholomance dungeon.

If you have never done the quest for Naxxramas in Vanilla, you will need to buy 1 Righteous Orb and 4 Truesilver Bars.
Depending on your rep with the Argent Dawn, you will need these materials to turn in the last quest:
Honored: 6 Brilliant Shards, 5 Arcane Crystals, 1 Righteous Orb
Revered: 3 Large Brilliant Shards, 2 Arcane Crystals
Exalted: Noting, its free!
What You Need To Do
Head to Scholomance and enter the Old Scholomance Dungeon. Head down to Rattlegore (Basement) and when you enter the room, the first bone pile on the left hand side, on top, you will find the Cracked Argent Dawn Commission. Repair it and equip the trinket! Next, kill Rattlegore as he will drop the Viewing Room Key Proceed to Darkmaster Gandling. Darkmaster Gandling will not spawn until you cleared all six rooms of all mobs. Once you do this, kill Darkmaster Gandling and get the quest.
Once you have the quest, head to Light's Hope Chapel and find turn it in. Then head to Stratholme, the live side Once inside, loot a supply crate to get a Stratholme Holy Water. Kill mobs until a Eye of Naxxrammas shows up. Kill it, a Ward of Naxxramas Run to the area in the video and use the Ward and throw Holy Water at the portal. A timer will start which gives you 5 minutes to run and kill Rivendare on the Undead Side. Kill Rivendare and run to the gate and you wil see a Eye of Naxrammas behind the gate, run up to the gate. When you do this, Another Action Bar will appear! Use that Action Bar to kill the Hand of Naxxramas and get the quest.
Go back to Light Hopes Chapel and turn in the quest. She will be at the entrance of the chapel. If she is not there, check Tyr's Hand.
Tips
When doing the speed run, buy some speed buff food. Bear Tartare from Legion or Fried Bonefish from Shadowlands. It could be the difference.
Don't loot any mobs when the 5 minute timer starts. Just proceed to the objective.
Don't kill any rares or bosses before the timer. If you do, when you use the Ward of Naxxramas, the Dread Ward portal to throw the Holy Water on will not spawn.
When you get to the undead side, start with the first Ziggurat on the left and work counterclockwise to the other 2. If you do this one last, you have to run under a gate and could get stuck which will cost you some time.
Don't kill the Hand of Naxxramas like me by not using the extra action button. If you do, head to Light Hope's Chapel and talk to Archmage Angela Dosantos who is on the stairs. She won't have a quest, but if you talk to her, she will give you the last quest to complete the Achievement.
Additional Information
This Achievement is account wide so once you unlock it on one toon, all your toons can enter. Also, each step is account wide. So if you did one part, technically your alt also completed it.

I was going to be an educator, did my student teaching, thought I might be too young as I was only like 20 at the time and some of those kids were 17/18 lol. I did secondary. So I scrapped my plans and went another route. In a way, I still want to teach and coach, but I'm not getting any younger lol. Not a day goes by though I don't think, "Man, maybe I could of been one of these college coaches making 80 million a year and being the top paid state employee without teaching!" Ridiculous isn't it lol. Keep up the good work!

Questions: Can I kill Barthilas after I have the debuff and am running along? And second question is, do I just have to kill the Acolytes inside after each boss or do I just need to kill the one acolyte? I am really close I can feel it but each time the door isn't open to the Square at the end.
@C_S_funhouse You can kill Barthlias if you want, but it's not necessary. Killing him could be the difference if you time it or not. Also, you need to kill all the Acolytes inside for the gate to open. Hope this helps and if you need anymore more help, just let me know.
Not sure what happened but i did it in time and used the action button to kill the mob and nothing happened and the women npc is not there... :(
I know I am late to this party. Had no idea this was introduced last season. When you complete this achievement, can any of your characters enter Naxx at that point or do you still need to do the quest line again?

@@xatan9480 Well that is the thing. When you go to the portal, you will go to WTOLK Naxx. In regards to what has changed in there, not much. You can now acquire a mount, there is a new vendor that is unlocked which sells a bunch of new stuff, and you can loot frozen runes.
Interesting results when messing with alts. I had my main do the quest line up to getting the Ward. Then I switched to an alt that was already Exalted with Argent Dawn and already had an old Argent Dawn Commission trinket. But the Ward wouldn't drop for me after a couple tries. I had that alt go kill Darkmaster Gandling and turn in the Darkmaster's Scourgestone quest and then the Ward dropped for me.
@EricStratton79 Thank you for sharing this. I love this feedback because when people ask me, I can maybe give them the answer with some replies that people have gave me. Yeah, this whole achievement quest, along with the Scholomance quest, its all account shared. I went on a few alts trying to remake the video, but I never killed Gandling. Thank you for this information!
Also if you don't see Archmage Angela Dosantos at Light Hope. She is also at Tyr's Hand, that is where I found her.

Killed the shade with the extra action button and got the dialouge from it in chat. But archmage is nowhere to be found in tyrs hand or lights hope. Any help? alli btw

I was doing this on my priest (using feathers as a boost) and no food. when I killed rivendare I still had 30 seconds to spare, but I had no idea where the damn eye was, so I had to find a video, and now I'll go again xD

Is this possible to do on a Warlock? Referring to the speed requirement. I have Blood Rush, but man I can't make it in time.
@darkkmatter5101 Unfortunately, I don't know. I just leveled a warlock in Remix yesterday, but I am not to familiar with the class. It is account wide though once it's unlocked, so if you have an alt that can do it and unlock it, that is your best bet. Sorry I couldn't give you a better answer :(
I need help please! I have my original Argent dawn commission equipped. I have exalted rep. I have unlocked Old Scholomance. When I enter the dungeon, there are no bosses except for Rattlegore. Just mobs. What am I doing wrong?
@Mismj1 Did you try resetting the dungeon? If you have the trinket, you will just have to summon Gandling to get the quest. To summon him, you will have to clear the all the mobs in the 6 rooms. Having no bosses up besides Rattllegore, you might of ran it and forgot to reset. Try that and let me know.

Well, that was fun. I did this on my hunter since she had a bit of a speed boost with the Trailblazer talent. The first time it borked so the portal didn't show up. I reset the dungeon and couldn't get another Eye of Naxx to show up to give me a ward stone. I waited until the next day, unequipped/re-equipped the Argent Dawn Commission trinket, and ran it again. I got 2 ward stones but couldn't make the run in time despite speed boosts on my cloak and bracers and eating bear tartare. The third time I dismissed my pets so I could see better, hit Aspect of Cheetah twice during the run, plinked enemies on occasion to get the tartare speed boost, got rooted twice at one of the Ziggurats (losing about 6 seconds), made it to the Hand of Naxx with 2 seconds left, watched the counter to go 0 while still channeling, and got credit for the run!!!

It is not even the old naxxramas you enter when you are done. Did everything and started to kill bosses for mog, drops wotlk naxx gear and the portal kicks you out into dragonblight.
@jakobhaulund7179 You are correct, its still the Wrath Naxxramas, but there are some old school flavor to it. You can loot frozen runes on the walls now, purchase old recipes, craft tier 3 gear, things like that.
OK. so i did the scholomance bit on my ret pally. now i'm having a hard time with the timer on strat. so i did it on my druid with 13 seconds left. i killed the naxx dude with the action bar but i didnt get a quest. i flew to lights hope and there was no quest giver. what do you think i did wrong?
@raccooneyes2099 Sounds like you did nothing wrong. When you get to Lights Hope, you wont see a quest giver. You will just have to talk to Angela on the steps and then the quest will pop up. If Angela is not there, let me know.

i followed your guide and used the argent dawn action bar on it. It burnt it to crisp.
It said in orange in the comments section: "As the Hand of Naxxramas burns into a pile of ash, it is clear that recent events have escalated such that someone should be made aware of them" .
Nothing else.... gate doesnt even open, no quest whatsoever.
i went to find her at tyr's Hand, not even an exclamation mark on her head. I finally got the achievent after talking to her a few times.
@laoy7971 Yeah, there have been reports that sometimes it can bug out and this situation will occur. Where she pops up depends on how far you come along questing in the zone. You do however have to talk to her a few times (as stated in the video) if you don't see a quest available. Thank you for sharing your situation as I'm sure it will help someone in a similar situation!
the arch mage person isnt actually there for me after managing to do strath thing in time and sutch? is there a reason for this?

@@nickmisiraca5740 Thanks for the confirmation. I think it has to do with whether or not you have completed quests in Tyr's Hand or not.
she's under the bridge for me with 2 other people, but cant interact with her in any way after doing the quest and killing the hand

If you killed the hand of naxxramas with the additional action button (the repaired insignia) there should also popup a chat message along the lines of:
"whilst the Hand of Naxxramas burns to ashes, it becomes clear to you that, the recent events have escalated so far, someone needs to be informed."

@@sammymorales7537 Go to Angela, talk to her and she should give you the quest. Where she is located depends on your progress in the zone through quests. If you can't find her, let me know and I can give you some locations. Try Light's Hope though, on the stairs, as in the video.

@michaelwinn4593 hmmm. The Black Guard Sentry's won't spawn until you kill Ramstein the Gorger. When you kill him, then the mindless undead come out and you have to kill all of them before the Sentry's spawn. Is this the approach you took?

@ShadowSnipezSam Well, that is the kicker. That is exactly what it is. The difference is you can collect some old world stuff in there like frozen runes, unlock a vendor which sells original naxx stuff. You can also get a mount in there.

I noticed you mentioned food items that give a speed bonus buff.
There is an item you will maybe want to mention in future guides that gives a good big speed buff. Its called Boots of the Gilded Path, drops from Opulence in Battle of Dazar'alor raid in BFA from any difficulty. It is a mail item and when equipped it has an effect: Looting gold increases your movement speed by 30% for 6 sec.
Its a time saviour item since old dungeons/raids mobs drop gold all the time so basically you are 30% faster running old content.
Hope that you found that tip useful and i truly believe its worth mentioning it at some point!

@georgigeohunter Are you a gold farmer? I ask this because when I streamed WoW, that is what I use to do. I love the gold making community, so many great people in it and so many people learning it that are making a contribution. I never mentioned it because I did not know about this, but even if I did, I wouldn't have because the part where you need the speed boost, you will not be looting any mobs. Having the food buff, it gives the speed on kill which you will do. I appreciate you informing me of this, thank you and maybe in a future video I will apply it when useful and give you credit.
@@_jetgaming no i am not a gold farmer. I like to find interesting, new and fast ways of making gold tho. One example is a food sausage item from BFA that gives a primary stat and people makes tons of gold in the AH from the mage tower players when they buy it.
I understand what you mean for the
5 mins part in stratholme but it definitely helped me only cause of auto loot. Killing a mob and auto looting for a split second was definitely worth the
6 sec of 30% extra speed when every npc there drops gold (i am mot saying that you need to farm the item but its an awesome quality of life for multiple classes if they can equip it). I didn't test it with the food tho to see the difference since i am a hunter and i can stack passive movement speed up to 50-60% with pets and passive talents hehe.

With a druid, if you use “tigers dash” or stampeding roar at the gate, you don’t get stuck killing bugs 🐛 I discovered this farming the mount
@TheDarkness678 This is correct and all my toons are Druids hahahha. I didn't mention it in the video because it was just hitting a certain class. A lot of people I see that were struggling with it was getting it done in time, that is why I brought it up. But, you are correct!
Also, did you get the mount? lol A lot of people had problems with that mount, I did not. It still took me about 30 tries or so, but resetting the dungeon and just doing runs helped. Think I had a show up and farming mats and transmog at the same time, it wasn't too bad.

I was wondering if you could help me out. I did the speed run of Strat in time and used the action button and the hand of Naxx went away, but nothing else happened. I went back to light's hope and the NPC you said to talk to isn't even there. What should I do?

@TwistedSecrets777 Actually this is still Wrath Naxx, but there are some things you can acquire in there. Loot from mobs are the same though. Besides this and Scholomance, you can also unlock all 4 wings of Scarlet Monastery. Any questions, just let me know.

@Vladekiksde Only reason for the big gate to not open is you missed a ziggurat.
At 1:15 approx you mention Fiona's caravan questline and that it will be in your description...you forgot to add it :P Fiona's quest chain starts at 9.66 entrance to EPL. Now her initial quests dont offer any rep BUT once you have done them, you will then hop into her caravan and head to a new area where you will pick up argent dawn quests. You will get a quest whilst on the caravn that gets you to go to Ligh Hopes chapel where you have to go do a "TEST" in the crypt. Completing this, will jump you ALL the way to revered

I used the action button to kill the Hand of Naxxramas, but didn't get the quest. But went back to Light's Hope Chapel, talked to Archmage Angela Dosantos and she gave me the quest to complete

Found Angela near the "Ruins of the Scarlet Enclave" on coordinates 72.71 74.74 (that is for those who didnt do any quest in zone)

If you've done all of Fiona's questlines and all the other quests from Lightshope, She'll be at 76,75 beside the fountain, talk to her a few times and you're done.

Maybe its a phasing thing. Did you do all the quests in the zone? Might need to in order to see her

Hey man maybe you know a answer for me. I have done all the steps til Stratholme. Now i need the ward of Naxxramas from the Eye of Naxxramas but it want drop (more then 30 trys). I have the Argent Dawn Commission but nothing so far. @_jetgaming
@renek.476 Try going straight to Angela in Light's Hope Chapel and talk to her. She is on the stairs. If she is not at this location, let me know. When you go there and see her, she will not have a quest at first, talk to her and the quest will pop up. Let me know if this fixes it.

This portal just takes me to regular naxx
@magnahoofdrim7030 Well that is the thing. It is regular Naxx with some changes. There are things you can acquire in that version of Naxx that you can't in the Wrath version. Loot is the same though.
Ward of Naxxramas bugged.. I dropped 1 time then I killed the hand and have to do it again.. After 20kills still no Ward of Naxxramas drop
@SoNax1337css This is exactly what I did. Another Ward will not drop, you will just have to go to Light's Hope Chapel and find Angela. Talk to her and she will give you the quest to unlock Naxx. Around 18:50 in the video. If you are still having trouble, let me know.

Title is a bit misleading don't you think? Its not actually old Naxxramas (which is incredibly sad). Just another portal into the Wrath version of Naxx with a new secret vendor and recipes to make some old gear from there. Would have been so much easier if they just made that portal take you to actual old Naxx with the original boss roster and loot tables.

if you make a mistake that the quest is not finished why do you upload it unedited?? just make a note before everyone makes the same mistake no matter if you did it for the first time or not you can edit your video.
@dense1707 This is one of them achievements where it is account-bound so I couldn't run it over again on an alt and do it correctly. Are the corrections not pinned? I will have to check. I hope you got it completed. If you are having trouble, let me know. Also, I did edit it, first time. I used the whomp sound :) I was proud of that lol
for those of you who dont know the t3 set mats come up to 2.8million gold to buy from the goblin vendor blizz has made sure you are more likely to buy tokens in order to make this set they did not do this for us they did it for more sales do not think otherwise be smart and thats not counting the cost of 90 riteous orbs for each class set
and thats 2.8m for EACH tier set
@vladimirthompson3991 Yeah, I touched on this on my other video about unlocking the tier sets. It's definitely a gold sink and a little absurd if you ask me. I mean, it's expensive for 99% of the players. Better chance of just picking them up on the BMAH as it might be cheaper lol.
If you use the holywater on the eye it will drop ward again
@GungnirStrike I did that in this video where I messed it up. The Ward would not drop again. Did you mess it up like me and then go re-farm the ward and it dropped off another eye? Or are you saying when you see the eye, throw a holy water on it and then kill it? Interesting stuff, thanks for this information!
@@_jetgaming I messed it up too and had to re farm to get the ward and I found that the only way I could get it to drop is if I killed the eye with the holy water only rather than with my characters attacks. It was also somewhat buggy on a couple of occasions where the ward didn't drop all together and I had to reset the instance. When all was said and done I finally completed the achievement but couldn't find the Archmage who come to find out is actually over at the gates by Tyrs hand to the south east of lights hope chapel if anyone is wondering.

@sro2700 Unfortunately, I am unfamiliar with the Warlock class. But, I have done some research after reading many replies. Whether or not this helps, I have no clue but the way it seems people are doing it is by leaving burning rush on the whole time. Boosting speed with flask and enchants. If its killing the mobs, use the voidwalker and his ability consuming shadows. Also, if you are an engineer, you can use nitro boots and also use food buffs for speed.
On closing, all these steps are account shared. So if you have a class that has more mobility, you can basically jump on it and finish this part and get credit for all your toons. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.

@@_jetgaming Unfortunately that NPC wasn't there for me. I had to do a lot of digging to find out where she was and found her South of lights hope chapel at the entrance to the pestilent scar.

She is also near the fountain in the Ruins of the scarlet enclave just inside from the gate if your a neck beard like me and have done all those questlines.

@Billy420-69 I can see your point, but there is nothing wrong with bringing a little nostalgia back to the veterans. The game has changed so much. I personally never played Vanilla, I started in Wrath, so this was all new to me, but to be honest, if it wasn't back i wouldn't have cared lol. You can't care about anything you knew nothing about right? This is why I think Blizzard might be introducing these old dungeons again.
WoW is a game that is honestly probably staying alive because of the people that have been playing it for 20 years. They play it because it was a big part of their life. When you got an older player base, time is essential. Maybe Blizzard knows this. A lot people now that played this game for 20 hours a day in college or a teenager have families now. WoW is not a game that will attract this newer generation of kids. It's not their style. It's too much work lol. I'm not saying all, but probably a lot of them. Most people that play WoW now, they are adults but started as young adults and probably even kids. Times have changed and I think Blizzard understands this. What do you think?
@@_jetgaming I'm still salty they added chan's imperial robes back to the drop tables in BFA. I've been playing since 2004. It's not that big of deal I guess. I was teh only person on my server that can make teh red leather monocle from old ZG. Can you run the whole raid now? I havent played since the last patch.
@@Billy420-69 You sure Chan's was not in before that? I remember doing farms at Silithus with groups and someone looted it. I'm pretty sure of it as that gave them the win on the Loot Appraisal Challenge. Also, I think it was before BFA. Don't quote me on it though, I could very well be wrong with my age lol. As far as ZG, you can still run it and a few patches ago, they let you farm old patterns from it. Of course the mounts that were changed are still the same ones. You can't loot the Swift Zulian Tiger, its the Panther now and so on.

Ok so I FOUND archmage Angela Dos Santos. she’s at the entrance by Tyr’s Hand with 2 other NPCs near her. Location 72.67, 74.82. Only problem is I talk to her and nothing comes up🫤
EDIT: !!!! Finally dropped!!! you have to be CAREFUL. When you engage a mob like Patchwork Horror you’ll see in red letters that says “The Living are Here.” Kill that guy and he drops the item!

So everytime, we kill the eye of nax we don't get the loot so is their a way we can fix that and drop them because we're legit not dropping it
@zack5738 Could be a number of things. Do you have the Argent Dawn Commission? Did you kill the hand, messed it up and trying to loot another Ward of Naxxramas?
