I'm not super into bowling or the lingo, but here's a little of what I know:
-In bowling, you play in frames - you get two shots, then your opponent gets two. The tenth frame is the last one you play, like the ninth inning in baseball. It's usually three shots in the final frame, but I've heard it can be two sometimes.
-A turkey in bowling is three strikes in a row, adding up to 30 points (each strike being 10 points) which, if you're playing competitively, gives you a massive advantage.
-Ford mentioned several special names or phrases if you leave pins up. For example, the 7 &10 split refers to the classic two back pins on either side still standing. It might have other names as I've heard them referred to as ' the goalposts/bedposts', but it's one of the hardest shots to do in bowling (Apparently, your best bet is to hit one of them so hard that it bounces into the other which...good luck with that!)

    • @jaymetzner
      @jaymetzner 3 года назад +1

Bowling has ten frames, each frame has two shots to roll the ball down the lane and knock over all the pins, then the total of the pins you knock down in that frame is counted. If you knock them down in the first shot of the frame, that's a Strike. Strikes are worth ten points, plus the score from the next two rolls. If you fail to knock them down in the first roll of the frame, you get a second shot in that frame to get the pins down. If you clear them all in two rolls of the frame, that's a Spare and it is 10 plus the next roll's value.
The tenth frame acts like any other frame except for the bonus roll, which you get if you roll a Strike, which normally ends a frame, gets you two more rolls, and the spare allows you the last bonus roll

I missed this on my playthrough, so make sure you explore all around the maps BEFORE moving on to new places. Lili should probably be around the back side of the motherlobe.
And don't be bothered about taking your time. This game practically demands you to go through it slowly.

Also, I brought it up before but I really think DoubleFine should've snuck in a cheeky Iron Brigade reference and have Coach come up with an idea for a mobile trench on legs.

If I remember correctly, in bowling when you get a strike you get to make a bonus shot on fresh pins. If the second set is a strike, then you get a final bonus shot. If that third one is a strike, you've gotten a "Turkey".

I think the game could have done something to make it more clear that the two characters are separate early on.

So I know that Milla is supposed to be from Brazil (right? I don't have this wrong?), and they speak Portuguese there, not Spanish, but it had always bothered me about the pronnounciation thing cus pronouncing LL that way when speaking spanish is an accent thing that a lot of English speakers seem to think is the main way. So having them kinda add this little story about it turns it from something that bugged me to something that feels so true to my own experience in English speaking countries I kinda love it.
Also, while I'm being the "umm actually" nerd everyone hates: "Tchao" is actually spelled without the T and is something that is only really said in Argentina (and maybe Bolivia?). It is also said in Italy as "ciao", but there it means "hello" instead of "goodbye".

Yeah, English can get a little weird with spanish pronounciation, so I also love what they did with Milla's name :D
But anyways, just wanted to tell you that tchao is in portuguese, not spanish, so that's why the "T" is in there
And chau (that's the actual way to spell it in spanish) has a widespred use all over spanish speaking countries, although it is mostly an informal way of saying goodbye, so I don't advise using it in professional settings
Oh, and just saying, "ciao" in Italy is both hello and goodbye too

If we assume it's really well thought out, it's hard to say. Raz's family is described with the G-slur in the first game, and they fit Romani stereotypes, but I'm not sure whether or to what degree this has been retconned to be more culturally sensitive. If the are still intended to be Romani, then Romani culture might be the source of her headscarf. However, Romani communities live disbursed over a huge geographical area, so it's possible that it's influenced by Grulovian culture, which introduces its own problems. Grulovia is fictional, so we have to make assumptions about where it is. I'm assuming it's intended to be around the Romania/Ukraine/Belarus area of Eastern Europe, in which case the headscarf may come from Eastern European customs that ultimately come from a combination of practical rural clothing and Orthodox Christianity. It's unlikely, given how joke-Slavic the word Gzar is, but Grulovia could alternatively be in the Kazakhstan area of North-West Asia, in which case Muslim and/or Turkic influences are also possible.
The better answer, in my opinion, is that they really didn't think too hard about it and she's intended to look Eastern European so they dressed her up like a Russian grandma/babushka. Then, through not knowing the finer details of Easter European headscarf customs and/or wanting her to have visual consistency (my money is on both) they had her dress similarly as a young woman.
