For those who are less familiar with hard Old Republic Mandalorians went. When they went to war with the Jedi they had to deal with Jedi blocking their blaster fire with lightsabers. Their solution was old school lead ballistics, because sure a Jedi can still react fast enough to put their lightsaber in front of them, but that just turned the supersonic hunk of lead into a supersonic splatter of super heated lead shrapnel flying into the Jedi's face.

    • @myduckisonqauck7227

Where did you get this info? I don't remember any time where mandalorians used slug throwers on jedi to a significant degree. In fact, there have been periods of 1,000s of years in which slugthrowers were common and the jedi thrived.
The closest things to this I can remember is when obi wan in canon blocked a bullet, and the shrapnel splattered him. In Legends mace windo could intercept hypersonic bullets, but sometimes his lightsaber didn't vaporize the whole bullet and it splattered him, but not to a serious degree.

2000’s Star Wars is just built different.
Also gotta love that the people behind the Clone Wars Multimedia Project, were like. “You know what’s cooler than 1 special forces super soldiers? 2 special forces super soldiers.”
ARC troopers and Clone Commando’s are just really cool, and I like that they both feel like they fit within the setting perfectly. ARC troopers are treated much like the Spartan’s of Halo, sure they can do stealth missions well behind enemy lines , most of the time they are either on the front lines leading troops, or blowing up nearby important targets. Meanwhile the Commando’s are almost always hiding in the shadows of C.I.S. waiting for the perfect target to strike well behind enemy lines.
I feel like the the coolest thing would be an ARC trooper game that uses the Halo trilogy as a basis, with giant battlefields, multiple basic soldiers and vehicle gameplay.
Meanwhile, a Commando game could refine the original Republic Commando with squad gameplay as the core mechanic, with maybe more expanded stealth gameplay as well as having its own cool set pieces.

Not to mention that Mace did originally try to arrest him before he killed the other Jedi.

Having Palpatine LOIC'd only to have his contingency plans go into effect, would've been a far more intriguing prequel trilogy. Also, would've made it pretty easy to 'hang' the Jedi for it, negating the 'entire need' of Order 66.
From the PoV of 'new canon', if it had been laid out better, it would've allowed Disney to 'Chekov's Gun' with the Palpatine Clones.

Also, this song gives interesting implications about Mandalore's past. Since it wasn't the Commandos that came up with this, who did? That whole part about 5000 commandos dying because of Jedi tactics on Geonosis was due to Karen Traviss making crap up to make the Jedi look bad. In the actual Republic Commando game, the Jedi on Geonosis sent the commandos on raiding and assassination missions; destroy a factory here, kill some important moron there, blow up a starship, mission over. The Jedi only suck at tactics in Karen Traviss' books because her hatred of the Jedi is only matched by Garth Ennis' hatred of superheroes. So she wrote them as morons because she hates them, whereas every other piece of Legends content regarding the matter portrayed the Jedi as either mid-level generals or sometimes, some of the best.

In the Republic Commando game, we LITERALLY only know that Delta Squad and Theta Squad were sent on spec ops missions, which is consistent with the Karen Traviss novels where Delta, Theta, and many other squads are sent to the factories and catacombs, where many RCs are killed. The Jedi using a number of the RCs as regular infantry on Geonosis, and getting many of them killed in the process, is consistent with a lot of the Clone Wars Multimedia Project stories of the time where the Jedi weren't often very good military commanders and got many of their men killed in their blind charges against enemy lines and other foolish tactics.

    • @HolyknightVader999
      @HolyknightVader999 Год назад +4

@@CloneCommanderCrater1102 False. Much of the Clone Wars Multimedia project depicts Jedi as decent generals, most of whom are conservative with the lives of their men. Anakin's the one who goes on banzai charges against the enemy, and guess what, HIS MEN LOVE HIM! The rest of the Jedi adapt a more defensive stance in battle, preferring to get the most of their men alive out of combat rather than destroying the enemy, hence why seasoned officers like Admiral Tarkin who prefer the total annihilation of the enemy dislike the Jedi for being too squeamish about casualties.
Also, the Republic Commando game makes no mention of massive casualties among the Commandos. They don't talk about how Windu led half the Commandos to die; all they did was operator stuff, the kind of stuff they were trained for, the kind of stuff the Jedi sent them on. So no, Karen Traviss is not consistent with the rest of the lore for the Clone Wars Legends continuity. There's a reason why the clones admired their Jedi generals and were mostly regretful over Order 66.
"They're good. No words needed. Perfect sync. Like clones in a way. Better. They're the best. That's why they command."
―Republic clone trooper commander "Bly", Star Wars Republic Issue 68
"It's been said that the 501st got the best of the war. We also got the worst. On Felucia, the Seps dug their metal heels into the muck of that alien hellhole and dared the Republic to come in after them. So we did, only to be met with month after month of flesh-eating diseases, shrieking nocturnal predators, and other sights that haunt me to this day. Cut off and for all we knew abandoned by our superiors, our only hope was Aayla Secura, our Jedi commander. Without her iron will, none of us would have come out of that mess with our sanity, or our lives. When her death came, I hope it was quick. She earned that much.
When the 501st was finally rotated out of Felucia, Aayla Secura made a point of seeing us off personally, calling us the bravest soldiers she had ever seen. It's a good thing we were wearing helmets, because none of us could bear to look her in the eye." -501st Clone Trooper on Aayla Secura's command of the clones on Felucia, Star Wars Battlefront 2 classic.
So yes, massive Clone Commando casualties on Geonosis was Karen Traviss bullshitting off her ass. None of the other Clone Wars media mention it, the movie just shows the clones winning under Jedi leadership, and the Clone Commando game shows that the Jedi DID deploy the Clone Commandos properly, sending them on operator stuff while the Jedi and the regular clones faced the enemy head-on.

Speaking of the OST, Rage of the Shadow Warriors is the greatest hype song I've ever heard in a video game. I will die on this hill, didgeridoo and war bongos in hand.

I do love me some republic commandos, and I do love me some pancreas video!
Sadly, they also always come with Karen Traviss's godawful braindead jedi takes, and I am sad to see those make their way into this video, even in small doses.
    Still, great video overall.

People can shit on Karen Traviss all they want, I love the story of Omega and the extra lore about Delta as well as the darker way she portrayed Jedi/Republic's corruption.
Shit was dope, great addition to the games

Clone commandos occupy the same mental space as ODSTs for me , they arent superhuman but just the top of the line special forces unit for each respective universe
It definitely helps that ODSTs are part of ONI and 1000000000% actively did shit like you see in shadow of the republic
Unrelated but make sure you guys check out the halo fan film ' remember ' its amazing

The Vode An actually is a mandalorian war song. The Commando version simply replaced Mandalore (Manda'yaim) with Coruscant (Coruscanta)

Depends on what type or ARC trooper you're referring to.
Null and Alpha class ARCs would definitely body any clone commando because they are all practically Carbon copies of Jango Fett instead of clone soldiers.
But the later Beta class ARC troopers are just regular clones with special training. So a clone commando would definitely be able to take all but the best (Rex or Fives) on in a 1v1

"Bad batch" does a good job displaying how that "brain chip" altered the clones behaviour, as it made them less emotional, more robotic and generally more akin to well, clankers, "heck", they became less emotional than the B1 battle droids.. ..The clankers often saying things like "halt, Jedi!", "Roger-Roger!" and so forth.

Star Wars: Republic Commando is without a doubt, the single most hyped I've ever been for a videogame pre-launch. And it actually ended up living up to the hype I had at the time.
I still kind of want them to either remaster the original game and/or make that Imperial Commando sequel.
it boggles my mind that they never made a sequel to the original Republic Commando game. The Republic Commandos were one of the coolest parts of the entire Star Wars universe to me.
