Hate to break it to you but i very much “give a shit” about the Endless and they already have lots of consistent lore that do indeed paint an interesting picture. Even though I wanted the Endless to be fully revealed in Halo Infinite, I know why they didn’t do this: They wanted give players a more conventional Halo experience and work on the high concept Endless stuff long term.

    • @danielefabbro822
      @danielefabbro822 8 месяцев назад +5

@@johnhalo-ug4go hold the line? No, of course not, while they can, they were meant to break enemy lines.
Historically speaking, defense have stopped to be reliable since the invention of gunpowder weapons. From that point further, the best "defense" was attack. The best way to avoid enemy bullets was that of being mobile, tactile, evasive.
Making the enemy miss the target. Otherwise every hit is a lethal hit.
And that's valid also on the greater scheme. You can afford the luxury of losing a line, a city, a planet. It will reduce your military power. A factory less that was producing weapons, less workforce, less economic power and so on.
Spartans was intended to hit enemy in that way, striking and obliterating enemy key assets in order to cripple their chance to sustain a war.
If the enemy can craft guns, they can't shoot at you. Spartans was made to attack, as like the whole UNSC military.
If the UNSC has lost so much in the war, it was due to the fact that they had no maps about Covenant space, no chances to hit their military-industrial complex and instead the Covenant had Forerunner technology able to track every single human in the galaxy... a sort of transponder of every human planet...
They was forced into a defensive position and by that, into a weaker position.
After the war, the UNSC got and gained lots of new toys. Covenant assets, technology, intel, also Forerrunner stuff... They had the maps, and still enough workforce and military and industrial capabilities. And they was so smart to go immediately to attack. No matter if the war was over, loyalist covenant remnants was wiped out, planets was burned, Forerunner tech and locations was seized. It just needed to the UNSC to take the initiative to turn the tide and dwarf those who before was considered unbeatable foes. Even the same Forerunners or the Created adopted the same strategy, but thanks to Master Chief, they was beaten. Why? Because in all the chapters of the saga, Master Chief and those forces that follows him are that single decisive tip of the spear that goes ruin the plans of the enemies going to strike first and with max damage behind enemy lines.
At the end of the day, if it wasn't for Master Chief, carrying out such manuevers on the grand scheme battlefield would have required way more forces and coordination.
Spartans simply make the whole thing way more easy and effective. And mostly because they are so powered up and their mindset is so far from that of average humans, that they can simply succeed where we normal humans will not have great chances to survive.

It never happened because it would have been insanely expensive, and the US already having friendly bases all over the world and a huge navy to travel between them was seen as being good enough.

I think the codified was Starship Troopers (the novel,) and obviously 40K space marines have it too, but I think the OFSTs are the most memorable incarnation as things currently stand. So the UNSC had a lot of people that were physically absolutely capable of passing the training, but did not have the mindset, which is a generous way of saying they didn't have that special kind of brain damage that makes people wiling jump out planes on the regular, nevermind into enemy fire.
The takeaway is this, you who are reading this, you could like have become an ODST if you really wanted to, because the UNSC had the medical technology to make you strong enough to actually do it.

The fact that you mentioned The Cole Protocol is awesome. The whole tattoo thing was my favorite part of the entire book. "Hey man, did you know Captain Keys has street cred?"

Fun thing to know. If anyone wants to read a really good story centered around ODSTs then I encourage you to check out a fanfiction called Halo: Feet First. The story mostly centers around the main character Duncan and his squad as they go through the war. Very well written with likable characters and it stays very close to the lore. With some exceptions though they're not bad or overboard. The author is one of those rare few that knows how to create tension even though we know the main character isn't gonna die cause he's the main character. This is legitimately one of the few stories I've read where I was on the edge of my seat multiple times.
I guess I should also say I have no relation to the author or anything of that sort. I just really love that story. It could easily fit into the cannon story.

ODST was objectively the best Halo game.
And it dropped at the best time between Halo 2 and 3.

the poster at 7:54 was a great item from the Forward Unto Dawn webseries and I got a printed version for my friend to take to college in 2013
Edit: extremely good discretion on ignoring the book that ruins characters we liked.

I’m glad that my long held correct opinion about the ODST having the single most badass looking suit of armor it all science fiction was just validated!

8:41 Very minor correction, I think he only killed 3 of them. The last guy was just very very very injured. And you didn’t mention this, but I find it interesting that John was not trying to kill them. He’d only recently been augmented, so he had no idea going into that fight the damage he would be doing.

Getting rid of the ODST's just cause Spartan IV's exist would be like saying the United States has Special Forces so we can get rid of the Ranger Regiment, or we have SEAL teams so we no longer need the Marines Force Recon. Or if you want a 40k equivalent we have Adeptus Custodes so we no longer need Space Marines. Surely the Spartan IV's are hella expensive to make and train, and not every situation demands the best of the best. Sometimes you need a good middleman that would inflict an unreasonable amount of casualites if you send your regular baseline infantry, but don't quite wanna risk all the training, experience, and (let's be honest) price tag of your most elite units
