After high school, I worked for company that sold aftermarket parts for Mustangs and other Fords. They had a big car show every summer for customers to show off their cars. One year, one of the more affluent customers brought his original GT40, and not on a trailer either. He drove it to and from the show. It actually took me a few seconds to recognize it at first because it's so much smaller than I had imagined. Everyone knows the "40" comes from it being only 40 inches tall, but most people don't realize how low that really is for a roofline. I've never been a big fan of Ford, but they nailed the perfect ratio of art and engineering with that one. And the sound of that 427 big block was so angry and glorious.
This was an awesome project for us, and a great way for us to collaborate with Bazza and the rest of the WSC Legends team. We enjoyed bringing the car to life in AC and we hope everyone enjoys driving the car even more!
I have been driving this car nonstop at spa since this video got released. This car is insanely fun and the moders did one hell of job with the driving feeling! I learned proper heel n toe with it as well :D

That is something i really enjoy in Goodwood's Revival events. Their touring racing with Minis, Giulia Sprints and Cortinas swiveling and drifting is AWESOME. Of course I still deeply appreciate modern advancements to suspension and aerodynamics that make cars MUCH faster, specially in the corners. Unless we talk about 2021 WRC. That was WILD. The sidewall stiffness of cross-ply/bias-ply tyres is horrendous, which is why the car moves around so much. The sound is just incredible, maybe the best car sound I'v EVER heard in simracing. During this period of time - the 60's - the cars weren't only cars but art.
So proud of you! Welcome to the GT40 Club! The GT40 is a fantastic car. With the Mk I being a perfect blend of British and American design and power. As, I'm sure you know, a Mk I is the only car to ever win Le Mans twice in row. (1968 + 1969)
Incredible video. Love to see more of these. Classics at the Nurburgring with the replay cut scenes with Jimmers fantastic walkthrough commentary. Great content. 👌🏼
"Mk 1" is a bit of a misnomer. Because in the '60s there was a Ford GT40 racecar, and, more recently, a Ford GT. Not "40". And I believe the principal race Ford GT40s were the Mark II and Mark IV.
I *think* MK1 was what they retroactively called the 'customer' versions made by Ford Advanced Vehicles in the UK after America/Shelby/H&M took over the works project and developed the MK2. Qualified for the 'Sports' class due to production numbers so it didn't officially race against the prototypes. I believe the MK2 and MK4 aren't technically named 'GT40' but I could be mistaken there.
They were all named GT40, but in typical Ford fashion, they sold off the GT40 name to Superformance when they did the typical all in or all out support of racing.
I wondered why Jimmy sims with a right hand shifter despite being in a RHD market. This car with its right side shifter despite being RHD, being his favourite, makes it make sense.
Us Brits really knew how to build cars in the 60's! Jags, Astons, Lotus F1 cars and the Ford GTs are all absolute leg ends of motorsport. Mr Shedboi.. when you say you want o drive one in real life, are you thinking a real one or a certain faithful replica?
Jimmy, "overdoing it" and "Nürburgring" only belong in the same sentence if you're talking racing lines or massive accidents, not your videos! Love this content from the heart
I've loved the GT40 (though the MkII is my favorite) since I was a little kid as well. Just something about the smooth lola-style body with a monster of a 7.0l V8 in the back just gets the blood pumping.
"American". Ok, it has a Ford motor, but it was developed by Lola and branded by Ford. It is the nicest of the GT40s because later versions just have a massive motor and were heavy. As for the awesome WSC pack from Bazza, I still think the '67 Chapparal 2F is best, when the wing DRS is mapped to a button on the wheel.
Great car that achieved what many thought wasn't possible at the time. What is scary but fun is that you can buy a production road car with aircon, surround audio stereo and other luxuries that would utterly crush this time. Heck some for less than 50 grand.
I love your shoutout for Jake, he is the biggest historic racing fan I know. This car looks and sounds fantastic, will look forward to trying it myself
I've been racing this pack all week! The MkII and MkIV GT40s are my favorites so far! I'm having a hard time racing all of them because I keep going back! Also the MkII is the LeMans winner but the MkI has a fantastic legacy as well including tons of podiums!
This car is a hell of a relic! It screams to be overshoot in the corners. I got an idea for you: why don´t you get all cars on Assetto Corsa and take a hot lap on Nordeschleife and make a scoreboard such as top gear? It would be a lot of fun to do, including those weirdo mods. congrats on your work! Keep up!
I like this car in all the sims where I've tried it, which is weird because it encourages a driving style I normally isn't very good at, where you use oversteer deliberately to take sharp corners. It's something about the weight balance and throttle response of it that makes it perfect for controlled oversteer; if you just set it up with toe, camber etc for a slight understeer it feels fairly stable but when you need it to turn sharper you can very easily induce oversteer with a little push of the throttle. It's also one of the cars that can tolerate a little bump when the stupid AI players inevitably rams you without spinning out too often.
jimmy isnt wrong.. the section of track between the two carrassel' is by far the funnest portion of track u can drive about anywhere.. the feeling u get when u push hard and get it right through there is unmatched
I like it how the moders added that detail when you push it up to 7k the engine just roars wildly. Its just like from the movie. It enters a whole another realm. That scream of the engine really makes you push this thing hard. Great mod.
I don't think Jimmy's done too much Nurburgring content. It's not like Google maps has the rebel tree listed as a local landmark or anything... I'm pretty sure everyone who likes his content is always delighted when the Ring reappears, including myself.
You probably know this already but you can go to custom shader patch's settings and find windscreen FX. That has setting "remove dirt completely" which helps with the blinding windscreen effects which are bit overdone with some cars.
The way the ass slips out on every corner is so cool, Goodwood's YT channel has a lot of racecar action from this era and it's a thousand times more exciting than modern racing
Sounds incredible.. must be nice to know a track so completely that you can tell if you hit this corner here or will drift out on exit so I’ll counter it befor it starts
GT legends is probably the first sim i've ever played with a steering wheel along with gtr2, that was awesome and super fun, sliding around with these beasts from the 60s
i was lucky enough to get to see one of these in person, i got to film the cold start and some passes at a historic racing event. Absolutely stunning in person. I had goosebumps every time i looked at it. The sound lives in my head on repeat often. Such a brutal car. I posted a short vid on my page of it, truly an amazing experience.
You said the scariest part is that part downhill that goes a bit right and left but full throttle. Obviously this is all relative, each driver may have a different vision about it. But I'm curious. Because for me the scariest part may be right after the RUclips corner, where you do a little jump (depending on the car speed and suspension setup) and then a couple of high speed short right-left-right corners that are a little blind (specially the first one). Cause you just gotta trust yourself nailing the line among those turns. Otherwise is so easy to be in the fence in the blink of an eye.
Jimmy, there's absolutely no need to stop getting excited about the Nordschleife and driving new cars on it, because that is actually what we're all here for excited for to watch☺️
There is the Ford GT40 MkI, the MkII and the MkIV in this pack... With respectively 385 / 485 and 530 hp, 905 kg / 1087kg and 1000kg and their OWN modeled bodies. Exactly the ones that won Le Mans in 1966/67/68 and 69. Note that it is the 5.9l MkI, which won in 1969 (with Ickx/Olivier) by a few seconds in front of the Porsche 908 (Larousse/Hermann) because of the change in regulations to limit the power of these monsters, so that it was the 7l MkIV which won in 1967 !
@@MrGreenAKAguci00 Do not forget the 123 Ferrari finish, the next year, in 1967, at Daytona ;op This is also why the Ferrari 365 GTB/4 is called the "Ferrari Daytona", to commemorate this event. Let's also not forget that it was Ferrari who won the 1967 WSC with the 330 P3/4, even if Ferrari lost Le Mans 1967. Ford, with the GT40s, still finished only 3rd in the prototype championship over 2000cc, behind Ferrari and Porsche in second.
Not many people can do that level of live commentary as they're driving. Jimmer can call himself stupid all he wants but it takes a high functioning brain to make this kind of content.
It's almost perfect, sadly no screen wash/wipe doh! Your lap really highlights my problem with AC, I have to have it cloudy, there's just to many places on the Nordschliefe lap where I can't see where I'm going. What an awesome car.
I attended goodwood revival this year. The first booth I got to after entering the paid area, the owner asked me if I could help push an original Ford GT.
The Ford GT40, most especially the MKIV is my favorite car of all time. I was so thrilled when Gurney/Foyt won in 67! Apparently so was the rules committee as it was soon ruled out of competition.

The MKI was also a car built for group 4 homologation, and was very successful in that class
Saw a few of them at the Spa Six Hours, the sound was crazy, beginning in the day and end in the night. What a crazy day it was
Us Brits really knew how to build cars in the 60's!
The GT40 is still my favorite car to cruise around on back roads. Such a cool car.
MASTERPIECE!! Felt your passion every single second!
I was guessing you would do a 7:12 hotlap. When I saw you at Devils Diner at 7:12 it made sense.
I should've known my brain doesn't pass that place
Just got a TH8A and watched the video, ran the same car on same track, died 3 times and then ran a 7:40! Great content lol
I love how it took racing in real life on the nordschleife for you to remember how much you enjoy driving it in sims. :D
Love you Jimmer, great video.
I've loved the GT40 (though the MkII is my favorite) since I was a little kid as well. Just something about the smooth lola-style body with a monster of a 7.0l V8 in the back just gets the blood pumping.
I've been here since forever Jimmer and your Nords vids never get old
my dude GP Laps is how I found you in the first place :D
always a great time when I get to watch you take an all time classic around The Ring!
Had the joy of watching this while working on my Ford GT Lego. Perfect timing as usual, Jimmer!
Keep up!
And you recently got to drive one!! To the Nurburgring too!
Great work buddy, you deserve all the rewards from the effort you've put in.
Remember, this car may or may not suddenly appear when you’re in Rome with a certain person shouting “HE’S THERE”….
jimmy isnt wrong.. the section of track between the two carrassel' is by far the funnest portion of track u can drive about anywhere.. the feeling u get when u push hard and get it right through there is unmatched
Picked it up myself last week.
The whole mod pack is amazing.
Old cars for an old sim racer like me.
F'n love it.
GPLaps is indeed the goat, shout out to that lovely gentleman
You probably know this already but you can go to custom shader patch's settings and find windscreen FX. That has setting "remove dirt completely" which helps with the blinding windscreen effects which are bit overdone with some cars.
The nürburgring hotlap series is still one of the best series on the channel. Love every single video🔥🎉
The way the ass slips out on every corner is so cool, Goodwood's YT channel has a lot of racecar action from this era and it's a thousand times more exciting than modern racing
Man jimmer, the car's been in AC as long as I can remember. Glad you are enjoying it too.
Sounds incredible.. must be nice to know a track so completely that you can tell if you hit this corner here or will drift out on exit so I’ll counter it befor it starts
Let me be the one to say that three months later the car is still fantastic
This has got to be the best mod that shows off the sound these cars made
GT legends is probably the first sim i've ever played with a steering wheel along with gtr2, that was awesome and super fun, sliding around with these beasts from the 60s
i was lucky enough to get to see one of these in person, i got to film the cold start and some passes at a historic racing event. Absolutely stunning in person. I had goosebumps every time i looked at it. The sound lives in my head on repeat often. Such a brutal car. I posted a short vid on my page of it, truly an amazing experience.
Beautiful lap, love your passion for this legendary machinery and the smile as you absolutely send it !
Would be cool seeing tests like this in a multi class scenario to show how they stack up in other ways
It takes a real man to tame that Ford GT40 at the Nord. How would I know you ask? Because Jimmer isn’t wearing his virginity gloves.
Jimmy, there's absolutely no need to stop getting excited about the Nordschleife and driving new cars on it, because that is actually what we're all here for excited for to watch☺️
That was fun. Nice job Jimmy. Should do some league racing with vintage cars again and post that. Always loved those
I'd love to race in a classic endurance league. These cars, the Group C days, early lmp or GT1.
This is such a good mod pack, so much good stuff! Thanks for bringing my attention to it, Jimmer.
Beautiful. And Mac’s livery too 🇯🇪
I loved GP Legends so damn much back in the day with all the great historic Cars. Because of that its one of the best for me in years.
I hope they can bring the mkII as well since the chassis is same as this one it has different aero and the big 7L V8.
@cladecq mkII was the one that stopped Ferrari dominance with 123 finish though. Wasn't it.
@@MrGreenAKAguci00 Do not forget the 123 Ferrari finish, the next year, in 1967, at Daytona ;op
This is also why the Ferrari 365 GTB/4 is called the "Ferrari Daytona", to commemorate this event.
Was playing with the Corvette and then the GT40 MkIV last night from this WSC pack, these guys knocked it outta the park!
I can just tell a lot of people will get into sim racing after watching this video just like many of us did with your older video :']
Can tell you love making this sort of content - it is this passion and enthusiasm that made me subscribe in the first place ♥
Not many people can do that level of live commentary as they're driving. Jimmer can call himself stupid all he wants but it takes a high functioning brain to make this kind of content.
Amazing car. Reminds me of James May's great film about the Ford vs Ferrari rivalry at Le Mans from The Grand Tour
It's almost perfect, sadly no screen wash/wipe doh! Your lap really highlights my problem with AC, I have to have it cloudy, there's just to many places on the Nordschliefe lap where I can't see where I'm going. What an awesome car.
Hi Jimmy, nice car chap. I think that engine as a connection to Weslake down in your neck of the woods
I attended goodwood revival this year. The first booth I got to after entering the paid area, the owner asked me if I could help push an original Ford GT.
The Ford GT40 has been my dream since I was young. Hope to get to sit in one one day. Glad to see some other folks get the chance to appreciate her :)
4:11 you certainly did haha
A bit of Old School Jimmer in some Old School Cool.
Got to love it.
The Ring can't be overdone, especially when your fave part is my fave part haha
The Ford GT40, most especially the MKIV is my favorite car of all time. I was so thrilled when Gurney/Foyt won in 67! Apparently so was the rules committee as it was soon ruled out of competition.
Just so you're aware, the original model from this is a conversion I believe.
The awesome sound, liveries and physics are scratch.
Nice choice, getting that thing around the Nordschleife is a ton of fun in Assetto Corsa.
