My advice to new racers isn’t to “get out” of rookies. In rookies you can learn a lot, how to get around traffic and how to avoid how cars react when they spin out or wreck, and how to avoid that. I also feel the Vees are a excellent car to race with, unlike the Mazda, you CANNOT overdrive a Vee. I think there are a lot of dangerous people racing in the faster classes because they never learned how to race clean in the slow cars. The vees also can be more fun to race because in Mazdas, other drivers will most likely slam into you to pass where in open wheel cars you have less chance of that, unless the guy slamming you wants to be dead too. If you aren’t winning in rookies, STAY IN ROOKIES!
I agree. I just started iracing and got my D license in 4 races, in 1 day. But I’m staying in rookie races for now, as I don’t want to wreck others due to my incompetence. But if you know how to race, you can get out very fast and without any tricks, it seems. I only have about 2 months of experience in other sims, mostly ACC and I did nothing in those 1st 4 races, but race. And I even mostly ended up somewhere in the middle and only once on podium, so it seems you don’t even have to do very well, just stay safe mostly.
iRacing tip from someone who has been on the platform for 2 days...don't focus on race wins and start from the back of the grid (don't quali), you'll end up with a podium and increase in your safety rating lmao
You should practice and quali, because it adds to your safety rating, so you get high much faster if you're driving clean even if you end races in the mid ranks.
@@ChrisTian-co4ocI agree, any lap turned in an official race (Prac, Qual, Race) all count towards your irating. At the very least, qualify and just stay on the track
ONe thing have to know about iRacing is its hard and dont be put off by being bad for quite some time, it takes time. if want to "fast track" and dedicated about it there are telementry services that can show you your mistakes and help you out in everyway possible. Think motec will even show you suspension inputs etc right down to tinest detail of every car input. But I recommend VRS to start off with. or can do old fashion way and just drive, drive and drive.
I spent several months in the Rookie’s before I threw in the towel. It really gets old running the same car and tracks week after week. It reminded me of NR2003 lobby races back in the Sierra days.
@@Kireth It wasn’t any fun with all chaos and wrecking. Yes, I could have started from the pits and rode around in the back, but what’s the point of that?
Isn’t GR86 a better progression from a Mazda (also free so you get more settled into iracing without spending too much), than jumping straight to a GT3? I’m kinda surprised iRacing even offers GT3 so soon and doesn’t put it in the next class up
Yeah its kinda weird, but i also think gt3's are kinda meant to be "easy to drive (but fast af) cars", thats why you see so many "senior" drivers in gt3 and especially gt2
GT3 is great if you're racing against people who are good, it's terrible if you aren't. But in general GT3s are a great fast and driver friendly car to jump into, and also one of the most popular classes in sim racing.
SO I bought year licence a few weeks ago in steam sale, And I just waiting on Simagic P1000 pedals - for new rig I've put together after playing using a Logitech G923 I used with Assetto Corsa and comp,Automobilista + 2 for several months and new I loved racing.. So 2 questions - will my licence start when I setup first time account, or was it date of purchase. 2) Do you think I should use my logi while I'm waiting for pedals or just wait a week more for them to come..
Drive Street Stocks on road courses in solo practice sessions. They slide around a lot and require some concentration to get the most out of them, despite being the rookie car for oval racing. When you do move on to driving the Supercars it’ll be the same but with more horsepower. Brake super early, and be really gentle on the throttle. Try and avoid wheel spin because you want to save your tyres!
@@splice7224feels actually like the opposite. Yes ofc if you're good you gain elo and play vs higher skilled players. While also as a complete beginner besides the first maybe 3 rounds you will also play with ppl around your level which is pretty cool. Luke in the popular races ull even tons of ppl with 600elo
Do all these different categories need to be purchased or do they unlock when you become the right rank please anyone? It’s Something I’ve been unable to find an answer to

I've never raced with a wheel. I just got the Logitech G923, and I've been looking at iRacing. I'm worried about getting too many incident points to partake in anything other than AI racing. I'm still learning the wheel, having literally just swapped from controller. Is there a way for me to figure things out without having to worry about accruing too many incident points?
What helped for me is that I was overthinking and couldn't get the courage to go racing. go with the mentality that you won't be the fastest right now and you will be alright. If you try to stay clear of trouble generally you will have a good score
I just got a G923, and literally just signed up to iRacing after playing GT7 & ACC. Im still learning the ropes, try out formula vee sessions, run practice until youre comfortable with the car and join a race, dont aim to win but instead just it round in one piece to the end of the race. Itll build your confidence as you'll still be beating other drivers in the same boat as you! Just my 2 cents as a fellow sim racing beginner
@eliteff1671 Honestly, I play both, more iRacing though at the moment. Its a bigger time investment with licenses etc but the variety is great. ACC has amazing force feedback and physics though so I'd recommend playing both alternatively
Pro tip. Don’t take off from iracing for nearly 3 years while your traveling the world then come back to realize your still ranked super high so your put in races with people who smoke your boots every single race …
