This is Southwold Steamworks, a very interesting site for a very interesting project. Recreating half of the original Southwold Railway, whilst another society does the other end.
if you know me well enough, youll know that i love a railway with a bit of history behind it, this one was very interesting to me, mainly as the Southwold Railway is a railway i had never really look in depth that much previously. The only original stock to survive is a singular Box Van, which is now situated at the East Anglian Transport Museum, the subject of my previous video.
The site is well layed out with the shed for the 3ft gauge project to the left and in front, a 7¼in gauge loop railway, which provides the sole train rides at the site for now, as the 3ft gauge project hasnt got the permission to run trains yet.
Seen on shed is Blyth, a replica of one of the original Southwold Railway locomotives by the same name, built at North Bay Engineering in 2020 i believe. It is steamable and had the opportunity to 'cab' it. Rather spacious cab i must say, ive been told that the cab design hasnt been modified, so they were generally spacious from the start. Inside the shed is Scaldwell, a locomotive that i dont know too much about im afraid, but i believe its an Ironstone locomotive(?) could be making that up😂
Down the side of the shed is a coach, the history is shown in the video, but to sum up, it was built in Belgium and at some point in its life, ended up the County Donegal Railway, where i believe the railway purchased it. It is suitable for the line, being the required 3ft, however, needs some brakes fitted as they were taken out, ealier in its life.
The Blyth Valley miniature railway, as stated previously is 7¼in gauge and the locomotive in charge of services on our B.L.S visit was 'Opal', a rather cute and nicely proportioned locomotive.
Also on side, stock wise, is an old IOM coach being restored, quite a few replica box vans, similar to the sole survivor, and 'Wasp' a small battery locomotive.
Anyways, thats enough from me, hope you enjoy the video, and ill catch you all in the next one!
