The Bride of Christ? The Church or Israel?

  • Is the Church the Bride of Christ?
Can we be both the body and the bride of Christ?
Has God been symbolically married in the past?
From where did the notion of the church being the bride of Christ arise?
I will answer these questions in this video-podcast.
    Greetings, I'm Dr. Paul Felter.
Welcome to my video-podcast where I expose church fallacies and flawed Christian traditions with Bible truth.
We let the Bible speak for itself.
For my entire Christian experience, I’ve been taught, as you probably were too, that we the church, the body of Christ, are also the Bride of Christ. Preachers and teachers refer to the church as the Bride of Christ dogmatically, as a pillar of our Christian faith. I never seriously questioned that doctrine even though I could find no scripture passage from Paul, our apostle, calling us the Bride of Christ. In fact, the phrase Bride of Christ, is nowhere in the KJB.
So, let’s look at the passages used to support the idea that we, the body of Christ, are also the bride of Christ.
Remember, the Bible is our source of truth, not the teachings of men nor church tradition.

      New Covenant Whole Gospel:
Let us now share the Old Testament Gospel found below with the whole world. On the road to Emmaus He said the Old Testament is about Him.
He is the very Word of God in John 1:1, 14.
      Awaken Church to this truth.
Jer 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
Jer 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by
husband unto them, saith the LORD:
Jer 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
Is the most important genealogy in the Bible found in Matthew 1:1 (Gal. 3:16)? Is God's Son the ultimate fulfillment of Israel (John 1:49)? Why has the modern Church done a pitiful job of sharing the Gospel with modern Orthodox Jews? Why would someone tell them they are God's chosen people and then fail to share the Gospel with them? Who is the seed of the woman promised in Genesis 3:15? Who is the "son" in Psalm 2? Who is the "suffering servant" of Isaiah 53? Who would fulfill the New Covenant promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34? Who would fulfill the timeline of Daniel chapter 9 before the second temple was destroyed? Why have we not heard this simple Old Testament Gospel preached on Christian television in the United States on a regular basis?
Once a person comes to understand the New Covenant promised to Israel and Judah in Jeremiah 31:31-34, which is found fulfilled by Christ during the first century in Hebrews 8:6-13, and Hebrews 10:16-18, and specifically applied to the Church in 2 Corinthians 3:6-8, and Hebrews 12:22-24, man-made Bible doctrines fall apart.
Let us now learn to preach the whole Gospel until He comes back. The King of Israel is risen from the dead! (John 1:49, Acts 2:36)

You lay out so many Bible verses that establish the truth that Israel is the still the bride. No. Rightly dividing recognizes the different timelines in the bible regarding Jews and gentiles and the different gospels in the bible. Jesus was only talking to Jews in Matthew - John, Per Matthew 10;5, Mathew 15:24, Romans 15:8. Matthew 1:21
Paul alone mentions the "bride of Christ" in his epistles, Romans - Philemon. Since were are Christ's body, that would be like Jesus marrying himself? A heretical idea at worst and plain non-sensical at best. The body of Christ is only mentioned by Paul and given to Paul by Jesus through revelation. Paul says this in Ephesians 3:9, "And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ." What Paul had was not known about because it was "hid in God" until Jesus gave it to him. So it could not be spoken of beforehand. Watch his video on Rightly Dividing.

Paul, you continue to teach what others dare to share: you make it so simple: all your videos r tough questions that halve always confused us in the past.
We as the BODY of CHRIST continue to steal Israel's promises and doctrine: you have methodically, brilliantly broken down the differences between the 2 obvious different economies, programs, despensations.
Your first 7 videos laid the foundation along concerning right division; You laid out the book of r foundational book of Romans perfectly.
Your wonderful break down how we got here concerning church fathers , history which helped explain just how we lost Paul's gospel of Grace after all Asia forsake him.
The mis conception teaching of the book of revelation along with the parable of the 10 virgins we have wrongly attempted to apply to the body of Christ.
You taught me about not only the reasons we need the rapture but filled in the blanks concerning daniels 70th week, .
I've watched you from morning to nite, working out, yard work, in my sleep,
I get excited everytime I see your blue or pink background on my phone.I know this post is dorky but you need to know how wonderful you r
.Over the years I've watched so many but I've narrowed all my learning to you as my go to guy.
Thank you for teaching me, I have watched every single video and will listen to them over and over till I become efficient like you.
Again, if I'm getting fed by your teaching I want to send you a Grace gift; I know you r under bread of life, and this week I'm finally ordering your book which I will use to outline in sharing, you tell the people when they teach rubbish and we need that.
Anyway Paul I just wanted to tell you thank you for being faithful.
His first@i💛j€§μ§, we want to be the body of Christ, the bride of Christ, we want Israel's promises, we refute the rapture, we believe we will go through tribulation, we believe revelation is to us, You have slowly exposed bad church doctrine.

      Ephesians 5:22-33 [NKJV]
22Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. 24Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.
25Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, 26that He might [g]sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, 27that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. 28So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. 29For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church. 30For we are members of His body, [h]of His flesh and of His bones. 31“For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” 32This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church. 33Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
      - "This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church."
      - The context of this passage in Ephesians is the relationship of a husband and wife compared to the relationship of Christ and the church.
      - An appeal is made to the account of the creation of man in Genesis. The reference is unmistakeable, the mystery is profound, but it is obvious what Paul is saying. Any attempt to say the body of Christ cannot be the wife of Christ must of necessity reject the idea that Eve can be the wife of Adam. The two became one flesh, which is the reason a husband is exhorted to love his own wife as his own body, because the two are no longer two but one flesh (cf. Matthew 19).
      Genesis 2:22-24
22Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He [h]made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.
      23And Adam said:
“This is now bone of my bones
      And flesh of my flesh;
      She shall be called [i]Woman,
Because she was taken out of [j]Man.”
24Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be[k] joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
      - This is what is referenced in Ephesians 5:30-32 [For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones. “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church.]
      Revelation 21:9-11 [NKJV]
9Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls filled with the seven last plagues came [f]to me and talked with me, saying, “Come, I will show you the [g]bride, the Lamb’s wife.” 10And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the [h]great city, the [i]holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, 11having the glory of God. Her light was like a most precious stone, like a jasper stone, clear as crystal.

For you are not a true Jew just because you were born of Jewish parents or because you have gone through the ceremony of circumcision. [29] No, a true Jew is one whose heart is right with God. And true circumcision is not merely obeying the letter of the law; rather, it is a change of heart produced by the Spirit. And a person with a changed heart seeks praise from God, not from people.

per 8:50 you say if the church was the bride why wouldn't the marriage take place shortly after. Then 4 verses later in rev 19:11 Jesus leaves to rescue Israel, the true bride. But the wedding occurs in Rev19:7-10. So which is it? Does the wedding happen before the 2nd advent of Rev19:11 or not? Seems to me that chapter 19 does flow in time from Rev18. At this time I see Babylon as Jerusalem. Rev18:4 "And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues." has a lot of similarity to Rev11:12 "And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them." This would be at the mid-point of the tribulation if correct. Open to discourse. Yes, I associate the 2 witness rapture with more than just the 2, but also the 144,000 firstfruits as a mirror image parallel to Jesus as the barley wave sheaf firstfruit offering with the dead that came out of their graves from Mat27:52,53.

Hi Paul... I believe it is neither the Old Testament ekklesia nor the New Testament ekklesia, but the saints of God--all the saints in salvation history.
Are Gentile believers fellow citizens with the saints and members of the commonwealth of Israel? Who was grafted into the cultivated olive tree of Romans 11?
Paul wrote that a true Jew is one inwardly with a circumcised heart, and that circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, and not by the letter? Is the inward Jew a member of the cultivated olive tree?
In the epistle to the Romans, Paul writes, “Not all who are descended from Israel are Israel.” Is the Israel that Paul is referring to, the cultivated olive tree?
In the epistle to the Ephesians, Paul writes about a mystery-that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus. Is this one body the cultivated olive tree?
Jesus said He has two folds and they will become one flock. Is the one flock of Jesus the cultivated olive tree?
Hebrews 11:39-40 informs us that the NT and OT saints are made perfect together. Are these perfected, glorfied saints the cultivated olive tree?
Hebrews 12:23, in a vision, identifies an assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, coming to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering, and to God, the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant. Is this assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, the cultivated olive tree? This prophetic vision meets fulfillment in Revelation 14:1-5, in the heavenly Mount Zion; the redeemed from mankind as firstfruits for God and the Lamb. Cultivated olive tree?
Revelation 1:6 and 5:10 points to a group of people who Jesus Christ has redeemed by His blood, to be a kingdom and priests. Is this kingdom of priests, freed from sin by the blood of Christ, the cultivated olive tree? Revelation 7:9 prophesies this same group, resurrected and raptured, glorified, and standing before the throne of God and the Lamb, from every nation, tribe, and tongue, wearing white robes and holding palm branches. Cultivated olive tree?
Is there a spiritual Israel? What do you call the body of glorified saints who will rule and reign with Christ on earth? Are the glorified saints members of the cultivated olive tree?
Is the cultivated olive tree the Israel of God?
In Isaiah 49 the Messiah is referred to as Israel. Because Gentile believers are in the Messiah, Jesus, does that include them as members of the cultivated olive tree, the Israel of God?
Are the sons of Abraham the Israel of God? Who are the sons of Abraham?
The sons of Abraham, counted righteous by faith, comprise the cultivated olive tree; they are Jew, and Gentile-the “Israel of God…” All the saints in salvation history… The firstborn enrolled in heaven… The redeemed from mankind as firstfruits for God and the Lamb… The eternal covenant community of YHWH redeemed by the Lamb… The bride of Christ.
The saints of the Most High shall receive the kingdom and possess the kingdom forever, forever and ever.
    Blessings

Revelation 21: 9. And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife.
      10. And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,
John was told by the angel that he would be shown the bride, the Lamb’s wife. And John was shown the great city, holy Jerusalem.

2 Corinthians 3:6! What Israel is promised, we received by grace, but Romans 11 is clear that Gid is not done with Israel (11:25-29). We are not “spiritual Israel,” but we are the Body of Christ, the New Creature of 2 Corinthians 5:17. Our citizenship is in heaven (Phil. 3:20), not the “new heavens and the new earth.” Look up the Mystery in Romans 16:25; Col. 1:25-26; Eph. 3:1-10. Now, rightly divide the word of truth (2 Tim. 2:15) and it will fall into place. Replacement Theology is the worst interpretation of the Bible that I have ever seen. Sorry brother. This is what happens when people don't understand spiritual things, especially eschatology. These same people believe in a pre-trib rapture. (My guess is you) Anyone that believes in more than ONE RESURRECTION will never understand. In Jn6:39-40,44,54. Jesus said he would raise (Resurrect) believers on the LAST DAY. Then in Jn12:48 Jesus said the unbelievers will be JUDGED on the LAST DAY. Was Jesus talking about TWO last days? OF COURSE NOT!!! Jesus teaches the same thing in Jn5:28-29 Jesus said ALL THAT ARE IN THE GRAVES SHALL COME FORTH. (Just and unjust together) Where do you see Jesus teaching ANYONE LEFT BEHIND in these verses. Now let's look at the Church, Body, Bride, Wife. This is what the word of God TRUELY teaches. Rm12:4-5 ONE BODY. 1Cor10:17 ONE Bread (Jesus) and ONE BODY. Eph2:16 That he (Jesus) might reconcile BOTH (JEWS and Gentiles) unto God in ONE BODY. Eph3:16 That the GENTILES should be FELLOW HEIRS and the SAME BODY. Col1:18 And he (Jesus) is the head of the BODY, THE CHURCH. Clearly the word of God teaches there is ONE CHURCH, ONE BODY, ONE BRIDE, AND ONE WIFE. Unfortunately, pre-tribers have become Jew worshippers instead of God worshippers. We are to pray for Jews just like all unbelievers. Also, a major false teaching of pre-tribers is the tribulation period is the wrath of God. First of all there is NOT ONE scripture that teaches a 7 year tribulation. NOT ONE!!! So, how long is the wrath of God? Rev6:17 DAY. Rm2:5 DAY. Zeph1:15 DAY. This is why Paul said in 1Thes5:9. We are not appointed to wrath. This also matches PERFECTLY with what Jesus taught about the RESURRECTION on the LAST DAY. Jn6:39-40,44,54. To God be the Glory

Hi brother, first of all thank you for using and upholding the KJB as the final written authority.
I disagree with you, but my reasons do not come from church traditions. They come from the Book. Perhaps I am wrong somewhere but I would love to hear your thoughts.
#1 - Adam’s wife was formed from his own body, specifically his rib, exactly where Jesus was pierced for His own bride. So it makes perfect sense that the Last Adam’s body will also become His bride.
#2 - The verses you did not mention in Eph 5 make it pretty clear that the church is in fact the body and the wife of Christ:
    Ephesians 5:30-32 KJV
[30] For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. [31] For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. [32] This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
#3 - In Hosea, if you keep reading in that same chapter just a few verses later, it is written- “and I will say to them which were not my people, Thou art my people; and they shall say, Thou art my God.”
I’m not replacement, but I do believe that specific passage in Hosea must have been referring to the church, which btw, is referred to as the Israel of God in Gal 6
The reason I don’t believe God will remarry Israel is...
#4 - God’s law forbidding the remarriage of a woman you previously divorced.
    Deuteronomy 24:1-4 KJV
[1] When a man hath taken a wife, and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favour in his eyes, because he hath found some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house. [2] And when she is departed out of his house, she may go and be another man's wife. [3] And if the latter husband hate her, and write her a bill of divorcement, and giveth it in her hand, and sendeth her out of his house; or if the latter husband die, which took her to be his wife; [4] Her former husband, which sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife, after that she is defiled; for that is abomination before the LORD: and thou shalt not cause the land to sin, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.
How would you explain how God, who divorced Israel, will be able to remarry her after she has been in spiritual adultery? That would be an abomination in the eyes of God according to His own word.
#5 - The Lamb’s wife in Revelation 21 is not Israel, it’s New Jerusalem. And it’s made out of the church. Scripture with scripture:
    Ephesians 2:19-22 KJV
[19] Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; [20] And are {{{{{built upon the foundation of the apostles}}}}} and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone ; [21] In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: [22] In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
    Revelation 21:14 KJV
[14] And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

    • @rightlydividingthewordoftr9434
      @rightlydividingthewordoftr9434  2 года назад +2

#1 How you can link Jesus being pierced by a Roman lance while on the cross and God creating eve from Adam's side is beyond me. Jesus was pierced by the enemy to make sure He was dead. How can that possibly relate to us being the bride of Christ? This type of ridiculous typing is why so many are totally confused. What nonsense.
#2 You completely missed the point of the passage. It's about being one flesh, one body, not man and wife. And that is a great mystery to you and me. But it's about us being one body. The passage has nothing to do with being a bride. This is the kind of stuff desperate people come up with to support church tradition about us being the bride.
#3 Israel and Judah were not God's people after He gave them the "bill of divorce." Israel is not God's people today. They are still in a state of divorce. However, Jesus will remarry Israel when He returns at the end of the Tribulation to save His true Bride, Israel. Also, the church, the body of Christ is nowhere prophesied in the Old Testament. Paul calls it a Mystery which means previously unrevealed.
#4 The passage in Deuteronomy is interesting but Jesus said: "And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her. And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery." - Mark 10:11-12 KJV
#5 I don't think Jesus is marrying a city, but those that will inhabit it, Israel. The 12 gates are for the 12 tribes and the 12 foundations are for the 12 apostles. That is all Israel. We the church are not part of the 12 tribes or the 12 apostles. Paul is our apostle and he is not numbered among the 12.
We are the body, Israel is the bride. God bless

@@rightlydividingthewordoftr9434 There is nothing at all absurd about it, nor am I surprised by your response.
Don’t let pride of being right interfere with judgment of spiritual things. I have nothing against you. I think you do a great job of explaining. Consider a few more things, and I will not try to convince you any wise further.
Eve came out of Adam’s body to be his wife.
      Jesus is the Last Adam.
It makes a lot of sense that His wife will be taken out of His body. A lot of sense indeed.
Also, just like Adam, Jesus loved His bride enough to die for her.
      Ephesians 5:25 KJV
      [25] Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
Israel could have been His bride but they received him not.
I don’t think Jesus Christ is going to forcibly marry Israel after they said No to him and killed him. I can’t think of any prophecies or types that would suggest such a thing. Maybe you know of something I do not.
Mark 10:11-12 is not the full statement. The full statement is in Matthew 19:7-9. That will clear things up.
Finally, in Revelation, the Lamb’s wife is not said to be those inside of it. That is simply adding words that aren’t there.
The Lamb’s wife is the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
1 Peter 2:5 - Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house...

Ephesians 5 is a mystery of how Christ created the two to form one from himself. The marriage is symbolizing how joined you are to him as your head not that you will marry him. There is no need for a marriage you are already joined as one in Christ and created one with him as bone of his bone and flesh of his flesh.
How can you marry what is already your head. Even as Christ is present tense the head of the church not will be the head but is the head.

I'm thinking if we go up with our regular body we would pop like a balloon I don't think we would be able to handle the pressure. To think about ruling in the Heaven's blows my mind. That God would offer this through Jesus Christ to the body of Christ. What floors needs that people aka some christians who don't know right division want a early kingdom , it makes me sad in my heart. Please keep making videos

Hi Emmanuel, we receive our new glorified bodies at the Rapture immediately before ascending up to meet the Lord Jesus Christ in the air. Our new bodies are impervious to all atmospheric conditions including a complete vacuum. Christians looking for an earthly kingdom will be disappointed but then be very happy once they learn the truth in heaven. God Bless.

at 14:35 you say the new covenant is initiated at the millennial kingdom. I agree it is future, but are you sure it is during the millennium? Mat26:28,29 "For this is my blood of the new testament[ greek word for covenant and testament is the same], which is shed for many for the remission of sins. But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom." When is the father's kingdom? 1Co15:24, "Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power." End of tribulation, or end of millennium? I stand at the latter.

You are correct in pointing out that the church isn't the bride of Christ and that the church makes up the body of Christ. Sadly your missing it in the rest of this teaching...the tribulation is 42 months or a time, time and half a time or 1260 days or thee and a half years. These time periods are clearly stated in Daniel and the book of Revelation. As for Israel being the bride?
As for the rapture of the saints? There is no pre-trib rapture there's only the removal of the wicked from the earth before Jesus takes the remnant of those who had survived the great tribulation to repopulate the earth just as it was in the days of Noah.
In Revelation 21:2 it is plainly and clearly pronounced that the New Jerusalem comes to the bridegroom as a bride adorned for her husband.
And the wedding supper of the Lamb isn't until the end of the thousand year reign of Christ not at His second coming..

During the rapture of the church, who are the people to be taken away? Is it strictly for gentile believers? How about the early Christians who started from Jewish bloodlines? Are they not included on the day of the rapture? Are they not called the Bride? What about those who died for their faith in Jesus? Those Jews who were persecuted and beheaded because of their faith in Jesus? Are they not included in the rapture? Are they not considered as the Bride? Is it because this time of dispensation is only for the so-called Body of Christ? Remember christianity started from the Jews. The church originated from the Jewish community. How graceful it would be for us gentiles to be part of the Bride? Truly grace. And because of that, I believe apostle Paul through Jesus truly unite the Jews and the Gentiles.
I believed when we interpret and divide the scripture. We should go back and look to the cross.

She gives birth to the man child (Messiah) who is to rule all nations with a rod of iron. It can’t be the church, because the church didn’t bring Jesus into the world…Israel did. According to him: "Paul never calls believers sheep."
      - Read Acts 20 (particularly verses 17-35). [Side-note, Paul also says he was "preaching the kingdom of God" in this section, verse 25]
      Acts 20:27-30
For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God. Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.
      (Cross Reference: John 21:15-19 & 1 Peter 5:1-4, Matthew 7:15-20)

Strong's 4165: To shepherd, tend, herd; hence: I rule, govern. From poimen; to tend as a shepherd of.
      - "...TO ALL THE FLOCK..."
      - "...WOLVES ENTER IN AMONG YOU, NOT SPARING THE FLOCK..."

Lord Jesus uses Jewish way of marriage. How the groom and bride united
into one in marriage. In this way, Jews can clearly understand the gospel through
Jewish way of marriage and that the groom has a covenant in which after the
bride accepted, both of them will drink the cup of wine symbolizes commitment.
Note that after their marriage, they became husband and wife.
Gentiles have different way of marriages that is why Paul did not use Jewish marriage tradition instead, he directly went to husband and wife in matters of relationship symbolism.

The "body" and the "bride" are BOTH METAPHORS for the church. John the baptist called himself the FRIEND OF THE BRIDEGROOM even though he was an Israelite. WHY ? Israel is the WIFE of the Father, the church is the BRIDE of the son. Why is this so hard to grasp ?? The Father, Son and Holy Spirit are DIFFERENT PERSONS and are called by different names. Why shouldn't they have different wives ? Israel's marriage was to THE LORD i.e. Yehovah, not to Yeshuah. If heaven alone was the eternal abode of the church, we would have NO NEED for our resurrected, physical bodies. How does the church being the bride of Christ have anything to do with replacement theology when Israel is STILL THE WIFE OF YEHOVAH ? This is just a red herring while this "teaching" verges on hyper-dispensationalism.

@@nealcorbett1149 Right, agreed. Would you also be in agreement that one cannot be under the old covenant and the new covenant at the same time, per Galatians 4? And that the new covenant comes through the death of Christ Jesus, as stated in Hebrews?
"And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance." [Hebrews 9:15]
      - The verse cited above agrees with Galatians 4:1-7, and the covenant being signified as a marriage is a common theme, and I believe is also addressed in Romans 7:1-6, being called there "the law."
"Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another-to Him who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to God." [Romans 7:4]
      - Your point about different wives is part of where the disconnect comes in when I read your comment. You said that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are different persons and are called by different names, but I assume you know they are all three referred to as the LORD (YHWH), and that passages about the LORD are applied to Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Hebrews 1:8-12 is one from Father to Son, a quote from Psalm 102; Romans 10:17 also in regards to the Son. Hebrews 10:15-17 & Acts 28:25-27 demonstrate this in regards to the Holy Spirit.
Romans 9 also speaks of the children of promise (mentioned in Galatians 4) and applies verses from Hosea 1-2 (which speaks of a future betrothal, that is forever, in Hosea 2) to both Jews and Gentiles who are called. In Jeremiah 31, when speaking of the new covenant it is said that they will know the LORD and also "I will be their God and they shall be My people", both of which are repeated in Hosea 2 (verses 20 & 23). The law being put in the mind and written upon the heart is alluded to in 2 Corinthians 3. My point is that the new covenant has come, through the Lord Jesus Christ, and these things are fulfilled in Him. Which means the people of God are one, and the sharp distinction drawn between the church and Israel in the system of dispensationalism is untenable in light of the Scriptural witness. Which is why verses like Galatians 6:16 which refers to the Israel of God have throughout church history been applied to all believers in Christ Jesus, not only to fleshly descendants of Abraham.

@@matthewsouthwell3500 For the most part, I agree with you. I have no doubt that all three persons of the trinity are called "Lord" but the NT examples you give are the Greek word "kurios" not the Hebrew "YHVH".
"The LORD (YHVH) said unto my Lord (adon)..." - Ps 110:1. Who did David call "my Lord"? There is a clear distinction here.
Secondly, with regard to Israel, you are conflating the spiritual with the physical. God called Israel AS A NATION to represent Him among the nations. We are called as individuals. His promises to the nation still stand and Christ WILL sit on the throne of David, over the nation of Israel and over the whole world. Shalom.

What about this? Reading 2Co11:1 Paul's foolishness is the summary of ch. 10. Ex. 2Co10:10 "For his letters, say they, are weighty and powerful; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible." Back to 11:1 "For [because Paul is driving this point home] I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for [because] I have espoused you to one husband [Paul claims his reward are the people whom he spread the gospel to (context of 2Co5 is people before the Bema), not that he has authority to espouse], that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. I see what you are saying, but trying to look at the argument from both sides. No I do not believe we are Israel. But I can see this passage as well as Ep5 as the body and bride. Otherwise I agree with the children of the bridal chamber, that was my first clue years ago. But even with that, the Apostles aren't the bride and neither is John the Baptizer. From the vigrin reference in 2Co11:2 with the 2nd account of the 144,000 in Rev 14, they are virgins and 'Firstfruits'. Is that Revelation's picture of the Bride too?

The "foolishness" or "folly" is clearly in regards to boasting. As you pointed out, the response on this point is not taking into consideration the preceding chapter; nor the one that follows. His entire point of "authority to espouse" is ridiculous. All this talk of the bride and wife but where is the mention of what this actually means? For example, what did it mean that Israel committed adultery (harlotry, whoredom) against God? In what sense were they "married" so to speak? Covenant.
When you say we are not Israel, I think that you would have to define the term. In Romans 11, does Paul come up with the olive tree metaphor all on his own, or does it point back to prior Scripture? [Jeremiah 11]. If the gentiles are grafted in, and this is the same metaphor, what are they grafted into? When the branches are said to be broken off due to unbelief, the branches representing ethnic Israelites, who then would be the root?

@@JeremyThielman ● In Romans 11, the metaphor is of an Olive Tree, not the Vine, although I agree with you in the sense that one must abide in Christ Jesus to be a part of the vine and olive tree, which I believe 1 John speaks to (1 John 3:22-24). I also believe He is the root spoken of in Romans 11, through whom the promises and blessings come. I'll address the Vine in a separate post. If you can say with a straight face you do not see the parallel here, I'll take your word for it, you just don't see it. But hopefully you do. People don't always respond back on long replies where Scripture is cited, but here it is:
      Jeremiah 11:14-17
“So do not pray for this people, or lift up a cry or prayer for them; for I will not hear them in the time that they cry out to Me because of their trouble.
“What has My beloved to do in My house,
Having done lewd deeds with many?
And the holy flesh has passed from you.
When you do evil, then you rejoice.
      The Lord called your name,
Green Olive Tree, Lovely and of Good Fruit.
With the noise of a great tumult
He has kindled fire on it,
      And its branches are broken.
“For the Lord of hosts, who planted you, has pronounced doom against you for the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have done against themselves to provoke Me to anger in offering incense to Baal.”
      Romans 11:16-24
For if the firstfruit is holy, the lump is also holy; and if the root is holy, so are the branches. And if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them, and with them became a partaker of the root and fatness of the olive tree, do not boast against the branches. But if you do boast, remember that you do not support the root, but the root supports you.
You will say then, “Branches were broken off that I might be grafted in.” Well said. Because of unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by faith. Do not be haughty, but fear. For if God did not spare the natural branches, He may not spare you either. Therefore consider the goodness and severity of God: on those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in His goodness. Otherwise you also will be cut off. And they also, if they do not continue in unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again. For if you were cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and were grafted contrary to nature into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these, who are natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree?

Jesus teaching he is the vine is the mystery of Christ in you from John 13-17. Note how John teaches this and doesn’t have the communion. Hid from the foundation of the world as Paul said. Hi Jean, you are correct. Good works are important but not for salvation as that is by faith alone. But as a Christian we can still choose to do the good works that God has planned for us or pursue our own desires doing what we think is right. Even as Christians we all occasionally do things we later regret. We have all said things we wish we could take back. All this will affect our rewards when we stand at the judgment seat of Christ, but not our salvation. God bless.

      @@jeports6758 Several points here:
What did it mean in the Old Testament for one to be "cut off from among his people?"
What is a Jew, according to the New Testament?
And are you saying "churches today" as if this has not been the understanding since the early church? Not only does Scripture put forth this idea, but Christian writers as early as the early 2nd century (100's) pick up on this as well, stating it boldly. I'm aware of one in particular; I can provide quotations if you'd like. And that is just the 2nd century. In fact, if you read commentaries from the past 400 years you will run across the same interpretation regarding a "spiritual Israel" so to speak (because the concept comes directly from Scripture). From one verse (Galatians 6:16) this can be seen in commentaries such as: Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers, Barnes' Notes on the Bible, Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Bible Commentary, Matthew Poole's Commentary, Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible, Meyer's NT Commentary, Expositor's Greek Testament, Cambridge Bible for Schools and Colleges, and Pulpit Commentary. Also I would say the commentary from Vincent's Word Studies, the Geneva Study Bible, and Bengel's Gnomen, though Vincent's seems back and forth, then agrees that the Israel of God is referring to "individual Christians, Jewish and Gentile", and the other two may be taken as somewhat obscure or rather curt, though I believe they are saying the same thing.
      Charles John Ellicott (1819-1905)
      Albert Barnes (December 1, 1798 - December 24, 1870)

      Matthew Poole (1624-1679)
      John Gill (23 November 1697 - 14 October 1771)
      Heinrich August Wilhelm Meyer (10 January 1800 - 21 June 1873)
Sir William Robertson Nicoll CH (10 October 1851 - 4 May 1923) [Editor, Expositor's Greek Testament]
Edward Henry Perowne (8 January 1826 - 5 February 1906) [Cambridge commentary on Galatians]
      Marvin Richardson Vincent (11 September 1834 - 18 August 1922)
      Johann Albrecht Bengel (24 June 1687 - 2 November 1752)
      - I hope you get the idea: this is not simply "churches today." And this is just select commentaries from within 400 years, not a comprehensive list, and not going all the way back to the early church.

@@jeports6758 ● When Paul in Philippians 3 says, "For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh", don't miss what is being said. One of the first requirements spoken of (Exodus 12, Esther 8) for becoming a Jew/joining the people of Israel, was circumcision for males. All who are in Christ are called sons of God, specifically "sons" in Galatians. Do you think that he forgot what he spoke by inspiration of the Holy Spirit in Romans 2? "For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God." The circumcision of the heart is directly linked to receiving the Holy Spirit (one and the same), and the ministration of the New Covenant, as evidenced by 2 Corinthians 3:1-6, which states:
"Do we begin again to commend ourselves? Or do we need, as some others, epistles of commendation to you or letters of commendation from you? You are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read by all men; clearly you are an epistle of Christ, ministered by us, written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of flesh, that is, of the heart. And we have such trust through Christ toward God. Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God, who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life."
      [cf. Jeremiah 31]
      - This comes upon hearing the gospel, and believing, and is the same for both Jew and Gentile. This is how God is able to make one new man out of the two, by the cross of Christ Jesus, and by grace through faith in Him. "Old things have passed away; behold all things have become new."
      Ephesians 1:13-14
In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
      - And according to the apostle Paul in Galatians 3, the Galatians received the Spirit by the hearing of faith, and in Romans 10 "faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." This was the same in Acts 10 when Peter preached the gospel to Cornelius and his household, and in Acts 15 Peter stated that "we" (referring to the gathered Jews), believed they would be saved in the same manner as "they" (the Gentiles who turned to God after hearing the gospel and believing in The Lord Jesus Christ). The people of God are not divided, we are one in Christ Jesus. The New Covenant spoken of in the passages cited above was promised to the House of Israel and the House of Judah, but this in no way comes apart from faith in Christ Jesus. In fact, according to the book of Hebrews, the New Covenant came/comes through Christ Jesus, by means of His death, meaning it is already in effect.
      - The teachings of the apostles are consistent with each other, because as Christ Jesus said, they have one teacher. Their doctrine is not their own, it comes from God.
      John 7:37-39
In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
      John 1:10-13
He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
      [cf. John 3]
      - In Isaiah 49, in the first 6 verses, Israel is said to gather Israel. How can this be? Because the Israel being referred to is properly Christ Jesus. If one is in Him, how can you then say that they are not Israel? In Matthew's gospel account, when he said "Out of Egypt I called My Son," what Old Testament citation was this referring to? When Jesus referred to Himself as the true vine, where do you think the metaphor of the vine came from? When Paul in Romans 11 brought up the metaphor of the olive tree, where do you think that came from? In all of these instances, look at who is being referred to, then keep in mind the Old Covenant was full of types and shadows which pointed (and still point) to Christ.

    Israel simply means chosen.
It has nothing to do with lineage/ethnicity/color or tongue...
    Paul said this in Romans
    Romans 9:4-8 kjv....
    Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;
Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.
Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:
Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.
That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.
The seed of Abraham are those who have the same faith and belief in Jehovah like Abraham did ... These people make up every nation/tribe and tongue...( The Body of Christ/ The church)
    One New Man
    This is why God said
    Isaiah 45:17 kjv....
" But Israel shall be saved in the LORD" with an everlasting salvation: ye shall not be ashamed nor confounded world without end.
All those who chose and believe in Yaweh will be saved....
Whosoever call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
This is Israel....This is his Body ..This is his Church

Romans 11: 11. I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy.
This verse clearly proves Israel and the Body of Christ are completely two different entities.
The NATION of Israel was put aside for Gentiles and individual Jews who believe to become the Body of Christ to provoke the NATION of Israel to jealousy!
Thus, how does it make sense that the Body of Christ is Israel?

      Israel simply means chosen.
Not because of lineage but because of like faith of Abraham.
The old testament was a shadow of things to come. Now that the Light has come there is no need of the shadow.
Israel was an example to the world of what the church would be.
Paul clearly teaches that a person is "Not" a Jew/Israel because of blood line/ circumscision but a person is a Jew/Israel/ circumscision l of the heart.
      Romans 9:4-8 (KJV) Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;

Essau and Jacob is a great example of this....
Two brothers born to the same parents born in the same bloodline of Abraham but one received the promise the other didn't.
      Why????
Romans 9:13-14 (KJV) As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.
What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid.
Hebrews 12:16-17 (KJV) Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.
For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was "rejected" for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.
Galatians 3:25-29 (KJV) But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Well, I shall let you be persuaded with what you want to believe. Let God be the judge.
I know what I believe. I believe the word of God in Romans 2:16 that ALL men will be judged according to the gospel Paul called “my gospel”. So the important question one needs to ask is, “what is the gospel according to this gospel?, Am I following this gospel?” Paul also said in 1 Corinthians 14:37, the epistles he wrote were the commandments of the Lord. Therefore, I choose to read and understand the commandments in Paul’s epistles because I know they are commandments of the Lord.
And I also know it’s very important that we must obey this gospel because Paul said in Galatians 1:8-9 that anyone who preaches another gospel not according to that gospel Paul called his gospel is ACCURSED.
Thus, the onus is on each of us individual to diligently seek God’s truth as He stated in His word, NOT simply accepting wholesale the teachings of man. I prefer to question all their teachings and apply Acts 17:11. Well, 2 Timothy 2:15 is extremely important.

Your comments are not biblical, in reference to the bride of Christ. Everyone, do a word study and don’t believe the negativity of individuals. If they divide they are not of Jesus. Yes, one can be a member of the body of Christ and also be of the bride of Christ. This opening statement is said to bring doubt to believers, don’t let the enemy put doubt in your mind, we have overcome sin and death through Jesus.
