- Hello there, how are ya? Welcome back to ~ howididit ~ Time's are calling for a solar automatic gate opener. This week I installed a mighty mule MM271, it took a bit of macgyvering, but it came out great. The MM271 has the option for a wireless key pad, driveway sensor, and has a 12v solar charging capabilities, those installs will come at another time.
Thanks again for watching, liking, and subscribing to my channel, have a wonderful, and Blessed week.

Great video m’lady. Thanks for sharing.
@@alikakalanihuia8891 Thank you
I guess you're a better woman than I am a old man. My grandson and I spent 5 hours trying to install our Mighty Mule that took you 30min to do lol. We had to stop because it got dark on us lol. Well, hopefully we can finish tomorrow. We are trying to follow your directions 100%. We had to adjust the gate level and other time consuming things though.. We expected to finish this job as quickly as you did, but we still like your video. Thanks
LOL, I probably spent a week planning, so the video would come together quickly(FL sun).
Hello, great video I love your craftsmanship. My little sister is actually a firefighter in a major city I love that spring loaded punch I do architectural sheet metal and have never seen these used. Thanks for the content ❤
Hats' off to your sister! It is a tough careefield. Thank you
A tip: find an old lawn mower wheel to put at the end of the gate. That will support the gate more, and prevent the far end from drooping, such that it gets caught up in the dirt. Gates always droop over time.
Thanks for the tip.
AWESOME JOB!
Thank you!
Awesome job!
Thank you Mark.
Love your videos
Thank you Robert, have a wonderful, and blessed weekend
When you twist your arm to adjust how do you get it to stay at that setting tried it and it resets to full length once you push button
Good morning, It took me a few times, I had to be very specific when programming, I also had issues with the gate wireless and the Pups wireless collars interfering with the signal while I was programming. Once I took the Pups collars off and put them in the barn, and reprogrammed the remotes the gate worked flawlessly.
Where did you learn your craftsmanship/tool savviness, I think I am pretty handy but with that click punch thing you did before driving the screws was pretty next level
Hello there, actually I worked as a firefighter for 22+ years, the fellas I worked with were all "jacks of all trades" and passed their knowledge on to me. The spring loaded punch we used to break out car windows during vehicle extrication's prior to using the jaws of life to get trapped victims out.
Could the arm not be installed just a foot higher on that main cross beam?
Probably, but the directions said in the center of the gate, so this is what I decided to do
Very impressive install.. Handy-ladies are hot..
Thanks
Would you know where the serial number is located on the MM271 arm? I'm trying to fill out the warranty information for mine and it needs the serial number but I sure can't find it. Because of the 4th of July holiday the tech help desk seems to be out. Tks.
maybe inside the control board? I will have to look. Thanks for watching.
@@howididit I got a hold of the tech help desk and what they use for the serial # is a tiny gummed label on the outside of the arm under the rear mounting bracket (it has about 12 numbers).
I was given this same mighty mule but my gate is 14 ft, only like 60 lbs will it still work? I know it says 12 ft OR up too 300 lbs, just wondering before install it haha
hello there, it is working on my gate perfectly(14")
What latch and lock do you have on the gate?
Hello there, that is a mighty mule pin lock, you can find them on amazon and Tractor supply.
I purchased a mighty mule pin lock off of amazon.
Mighty Mule is Garbage! Do a real review...
Actually it was how I installed it. As for a review, I am still loving it. Thanks for watching.
