I chuck this up ruclips.net/user/postUgkxmwiwyX3ADeryrwvcsiwLeKxme6QNQmGL with some carbide bits and use it almost exclusively for grinding out bad welds. It's quite large in size, but having the handle located right near the tip gives you a lot of control.I'm mostly impressed with how remarkably quiet it is. That alone is enough of a reason to switch from the air-powered alternatives.Tip: It's easy to get a carbide bit to walk/chatter and then break. You can reduce your chances of that happening if you are firm and steady with your material removal. It helps to grab it with a second hand right at the BLACK handle near the bit.
Truly amazing to have a cordless die grinder for sharpening, metal prep or anything else with the roloc discs. So many options! I've been waiting for this for months
Damm. A few years back I decided to go with the Bosch 12 volt line. Should have gone with Milwaukee. They are constantly coming out with great new tools!!!!!!!!!!
Roger JK I have both, Bosch has tools M12 doesn’t. The Bosch 12v planer and router are awesome, the jigsaw is 10x better then the M12. But M12 has better automotive tools.
Just ordered mine and a 3/8 m12 ratchet. Milwaukee is on their game with the power tools. My m18 high torque 1/2 impact will put the newest snap on guns to shame and has put a new Matco 1/2 pneumatic to shame also. Thing blows my mind. The mid torque 3/8 is a beast also .
Just got one of these, I love it. It’s sooo nice not having that ear piercing noise from an air powered die grinder and no more dragging the air line around. It’s absolutely brilliant for grinding welds in tight areas. I’d like to buy the straight one too but I’m not made of money so that will have to wait lol..
Found a badass deal on this, but I’m debating on getting it. $179 for the grinder, 2.0 battery, 4.0 battery, and charger, and bag. Hell of a deal, just debating on if I’ll use it enough. I do have straight and angle pneumatic grinders, but this could be very useful.
I’ve been wanting and needing a die grinder but just couldn’t bring myself to spend the $250 that Milwaukee was charging for it. But now with patience it’s on sale for $149 with a battery. I’m definitely buying that joker today will be at my house tomorrow 8/2/22. Man I can’t wait Thanks a lot for your review you always give great unbiased reviews and I respect your options a lot.
The one concern I have as a replacement for pneumatic die grinder is the size of the motor head. It appears to stick out further than a 2 inch roloc. For a burr or stone the discrepancy is even more extreme. A pneumatic has the air motor in the handle and uses a rt. angle or 120 degree gear drive to turn the collet. That makes the head very small and it will get into places that this one will not. For example, I am sanding rust from the inside of some tool cabinet drawers that I am restoring. To do the inside of the drawer sides, I would have to use a 3 roloc. With a 2 inch the tool would hit the draw bottom before the disc. I am sure there must be other situations where the big bulky head will prevent it from replacing an air grinder.
As a welder this tool is handy, a must have for metal working. Like all Milwaukee stuff it is expensive I would have added that as a draw back in the vid. Thnx.
I found myself rebuilding a Cummins ISX CM-871... I needed a die grinder to remove several gallons of RTV before I in frame it, no gaskets, just RTV... I bought both the straight and angle Milwaukee units. The straight grinder was nice getting in behind the front structure of the motor where the angle die grinder would not work. As of now, I have been using the 3M Roloc Bristle Discs to remove the RTV from the block. I have to say, these die grinders, are the BOMB! Do not put pressure on these like you would with an air grinder, they will shut down, let the tool do the work. I wish I would have bought these years ago. If you find yourself using a die grinder, I would get both if you are doing engine work, or need to get into odd spaces. And if possible, stick with the 3M Roloc heads and tools, the Chinese stuff is hit and miss at best. As far as run time, and lack of a compressor for a proper die grinder, the batteries are inexpensive, I use the Amazon Chinesium knockoffs, you can get a dozen of them for what you would pay for a couple of Milwaukee batteries. Up to 9 volts, no issues. Beats the minute or two I would get with a 20 gallon compressor.
just got mine, seems to really pull down my CP 3.0 right away, like a couple minutes and im down to 2 or even 1 bar on the battery lights, even managed to overheat it with a 2" flap wheel, wasnt going crazy hard or anything, the tool itself heated up too, I think it might be defective.
@@WorkshopAddict Not really all that hard, just taking surface rust off a sub-frame for welding prep, I am used to .5 hp pneumatic die grinders, but this thing seems to stall if I blow on it. I'm going to return it, and try a new one.
I’m a millwright that does some heavy metal fabrication in stainless steel. I used this but to me it’s too slow to do I any real world fabrication. Long run time and torque is needed so it’s back to either pneumatic or electric die grinders. I did find a really good use and it’s to clean weld burns on stainless steel with a wire wheel.
I'm really impressed with the m12 line, I recently got the 3/8 fuel ratchet and the 1/4 impact wrench and I find I'm using the 12v stuff more and more over the 18v. After serveral hours with the 1/2 hammer drill installing gutter guards I really appricate the lighter power to weight.
agree. there are a lot of times when the 18v tools are just too much and you don’t need all that right now. The 12v stuff is just better suited until you need bone crushing power.
My concern is the ability for a 2" roloc to get all the way into a corner. A pneumatic has the motor in the body and a right angle gear drive that puts the chuck at the front edge of the tool.. This one gets rid of that by putting the motor in the head. It saves power and cost but the head apears to be as big as a 2" roloc. I have been cleaning up the drawers of a tool cabinet. Will this tool put a 2" roloc flat against the inside of the drawer sides and back, like an air tool? I could go to a 3" roloc. That fat head concerns me as a 100% replacement for an air grinder. I have been waiting a long time and this is currently the only one out there, except for a very expensive corded German model.. My question is whether the chuck center is less than 1" from the front of the tool? Thank you very much for checking.
Real review, it cuts out all the time and heats up for real jobs, air is so much better for this application, it's good for around the house but keep it away from the shop.
Ordered mine yesterday from Acme Tools along with a Pack Out to put it in supposed to ship on Monday can’t wait. Looks awesome thanks Brian great review as always!
Looks like a great tool. Love the m12 line. So far ratchets and stubby are my favorites. I may add this and the 3inch cutter soon. Was also thinking about the telecoping light as well. Only problem is I have more m18 batteries than m12.
Thanks so much for sharing this and putting it to the test. Especially beyond what it should be used for. I've been waiting a long time for one of these to come out
That is a nice tool, but a big price tag for such. I would love the mobility of not being tied to an air line since I already have a good selection of m12 tooling. $369.99 (CAD) for tool only puts it out of reach for most hobby users unfortunately, when a good IR right angle air can be had for $99.
I liked how you explained the pros and cons, that’s what I like to see on every review… no Bull, so to see if there’s improvisations needed from user; thank you sir. Yes, I’m on the market for this tool being the reason I went for vids to see if someone had one.

I’ll keep my 2-stage compressor and CP right angle grinder. It’s a little noisy but I’ll never have to replace batteries on it and it cost me a third of what this tool costs.
Thanks for the review! I got mine finally, and my collet doesn’t release right away either but then I realized you have to loosen the nut a little more and it will automatically pop the collet loose and then your shank will come out with ease! Hope this helps someone.
I have one and I don't like the fact that if it boggs down at all it shuts off and you have release the handle and restart everytime, unlike air tools.
The problem is that it doesn’t seem to take a whole lot to big it down. You have to be careful how much pressure you use. Other than that I like it. It does seem to burn through batteries quickly.

Hi Brian, Like that milwaukee m12 angle grinder. Differently going to pick one up. Watching the video i see you where showing the m18 straight die grinder. Man it would be nice if milwaukee can make die grinder on the m12 platform. Thanks for the video I know it

The problem is once your in deep with batteries and tools, switching over to another brand is EXPENSIVE. One day when I have $2500 to drop, I’m switching toMilwaukee
I really want one but I can buy a .75 HP air one for half the money of even a USED Milwaukee. I use 3" rol-loks and really hog material away sometimes. I need the power. This doesn't sound like it would do everything for me. Maybe I'll buy one on sale sometime for light tasks.
Just so you know if you haven’t used them they come in different colors that are different roughness. I know they come in white, yellow and green front he ones I’ve used. They last a long time too.
I have been looking for a corded version of this tool. I can't justify buying a large compressor just for one tool. This battery one is the only other option.
So I recently got one of these, and love it.... Buuuut I also found out that die grinders really is not a thing in my part of the world. They are basically only used by car painters, making them and all their accessories very hard to find, and very expensive when you do find them. What complicates it even more is "die grinder" doesnt even have a name here, its litteraly referred to as a general grinding device so when you search for it, you get EVERYTHING from angle grinders to belt sanders. But it doesnt end there, since we use metric here i get a 6mm collet instead of a 1/4 inch one. 1/4" is equal to 6,35mm and that difference is enough that US made stuff cannot properly fit in it without wobbling like crazy. Not exactly what I want from a cutoff disk that spins at 25 000 rpm, so then buying off the web kinda goes out the window too. So I guess my 2 options are to either sell it, or buy a 1/4" collet which is $60 with shipping and tax... and pray it fits?
Got mine Friday…it’s awesome…just made it better…placed a piece of light cardboard between the trigger and safety lever….now it’s much easier to use..no more flipping that stupid safety lever…😀😀😀…paid $ 139.00 plus tax on Ebay….😀
Did you happen to test it with a 6.0 I only noticed a 2.0 in vid.? I personally on other tools have noticed performances differences in my m12 line other than run time over the 2.0 or even 4.0.
It has all the power I would need with the 2.0 but I did use the 6.0 last night on a different task and it seemed a bit more powerful, but it was a different task and you don't need to push these too hard.
Would you mind doing a video on accessories for this tool? It seems like this is the right tool for some work I have coming up and I'm a bit confused by all the types of discs and wheels.
One RUclipsr tried a 3"roloc and it cut out with virtually no pressure. Any decent air grinder can handle that. This is suppised to be 0.3 hp That is decent power in an air grinder. On Milwaukee's own site and elsewhere, there are a lot of reviews complaining about the tool cutting out under light pressure. Of course they nay be abusing it but it is making me hesitate to buy it and I really wanted a tool like this.
My only gripe about Milwaukee over here in the UK is the parts are so difficult to get and so expensive you end up throwing the tool away
You need the 2 separate spanner’s to be able to change the bit in the tools
the real question is.... can I sharpen my lawn mower blade with it. Still can't find a decent way to do my blades
You can, but with a smaller tool like this it is harder to hold the angle. I would recommend a 4.5" grinder with a flap disk on it.
Use a Tormek. :) Just kidding. But that would be sweet!
I use a dedicated 1/4 wheel on grinder. It has a nice flat angle on the disk since I only use that wheel for blades.

So I guess my 2 options are to either sell it, or buy a 1/4" collet which is $60 with shipping and tax... and pray it fits?
hard to believe that this thing has the battery power to run more than 10 or 15 min of use before needing to exchange the battery for another.
It will do all of that and much more on the 2.0. Add a 6.0 and it will go forever.
What accessories do I need? I'm new to this product. Do I need hilder shank for the abrasive pads and bristle discs?
Got mine Friday…it’s awesome…just made it better…placed a piece of light cardboard between the trigger and safety lever….now it’s much easier to use..no more flipping that stupid safety lever…😀😀😀…paid $ 139.00 plus tax on Ebay….😀
does this require any kind of lubrication? grease or oil? or nothing cause its brushless?
No lube at all.
Great tool but I’m looking forward to the m18 fuel 2 post lift with the led light arm kit.
There is an m18 hydraulic power pack... so you could power a 2 post lift with Milwaukee batteries if you wanted.
How many times did you have to recharge the batteries
I've been waiting for this to become available!!
Your wait is almost over bud.
How do put the grander on it
what about hand vibration? and given the consensus is this goes through batteries, how long to charge them?
Would you mind doing a video on accessories for this tool? It seems like this is the right tool for some work I have coming up and I'm a bit confused by all the types of discs and wheels.
I can put together everything I have.
Whats the total length from the back to the front of the disc?
That will vary based on the disc and how far it is inserted......... Not sure how to answer that.
What battery was he using when the 3" roloc stalled it?
Does anyone know if the collet would hold onto 1/8 sized shanks?
Can that take 3in roloc discs?
Yes, but it is best to use a 6Ah battery for best performance with them.
As a Milwaukaholic, I have to have this!
I just got one and it is awesome!
what set of "tips/bits" you guys recomend for this tool?
This will be GREAT for auto detailing.
