Duder! Thanks so much for the shoutout 👊🏼 this tip certainly saved me from pulling out my hair many a times.
Now you can grow your hair out like mine!
@@TheFinalCutBro But if he grows his hair out, how will we know which Dylan is which? 🤷🏻♂
@@Brad_West 🤣 There will be no way to tell at that point. We will become one and our consciousness will merge together like two clouds joining each other.

I run into this problem all the time and it never occurred to me to use the hold frame. Another very useful tutorial Dylan. Please keep them coming. The two Dylans do it again! Scotland needs all the help it can get!!!
I always assumed that I was just going to lose those frames and just adjusted accordingly but using a hold frame is something I'm going to do in the future.
fyi I cussed out loud in excitement when I realised what you have “finally” uploaded......this transition problem I am familiar with to say the least 😅
Thanks so much, Dylan
In the words if Gunter the monkey from Futurama "It's so obvious now!
But thank you for this. I had just assumed FCP was doing something quirky when I'd be happily dropping in cross fades with no issues and then there'd be one awkward one!
Nice tip Dylan ! Thank you
Thanks Dylan! Keep being awesome 🤩
I feel ya on that! thanks for showing some appreciation in ways some can’t right now 😁
Appreciate the idea so much!!
@@BobbyClements Can't show it enough, Dylan is one of the best tutorial guys out there. If you can't afford it monetary, I'm pretty sure a thumb is more than enough :)
Thank you so much for this! It's been driving me crazy! I had tried the compound clip trick (creating a compound clip and then cutting it) to get around the problem, but it didn't always work, so this freeze frame trick is much appreciated. And thanks for the clear explanation of why the issue comes up in the first place.
Thanks! You must be reading my mail. Very helpful tip that addresses a frustration I frequently run it to.
Thanks Dylan thats been something that has been bugging me for years, will certainly be doing this on the edits now fella , cheers 👍
Thank you very much Dylan. I needed this 💪🏼
Dylan, you have saved me more times than I can count. Your channel is immensely helpful thank you
Love the shot at 1.36!! Maybe not freeze but slow down a bit before... With the whip it looks good. I guess it depends on the shots and the transition.
100%!
I’m making my first steps in video editing and this video saved me from hanging myself. Thank you !
useful tip
Many many years ago there was an NLE called EditDV which did exactly that when you were short media for a transition.
What would be nice if you could enter the duration of the Hold Frame as you created such as Hold +12 (for 1 second 24fps dissolve for example).
Thanks, this was so helpful!
A Hold or even a freeze frame should be automatically created by FCP whenever we try to do this. Love FCP, but this is yet another one of the great frustrations that we run into in FCP. Apple should be making FCP into an AI-style powerhouse that does things like this for us. Another great vid. Thanks!
Your Video always help me at the last min. you are the best. thanks a lot :)
you are a pro.. thanks
Very helpful 🤘⚡️🤘✨✨
Why does FCP create a really short transition if added between two clips where I have an audio fade? And it can’t be lengthened.
Hey Dylan, thanks for the super helpful videos! I was wondering if you can make a video about something that maybe sounds kind of dry but is very important, FILE MANAGEMENT. I've started to make more videos for clients (instead of just myself) so I'm finding myself having to spend a lot of time deleting past files and compound clips I made and also sometimes just running out of space from having so many different files for many projects. Do you think you could share some tips you've learned over the years about this broad topic?
Sometimes I've found myself using only 10 seconds of a 3 minute video for instance but still have to keep the full file for my project to work, which eats up a lot of space when it's 4K we're talking about.
Also when downloading files from Envato, they are always super big in size, so I have to spend a bunch of time exporting smaller size versions of them to make my projects be smaller.
Would be nice to know your workflow about all of this stuff.
Thanks again Dylan!
Andrew
Thank you very much! And if this problem appears at the end of a video, with enough media there? What can I do?
THank you So much!
Or, you can combine both clips into a new compound clip then cut that with the blade where the two original clips meet and then add a transition. There are probably drawbacks to this (you can end up with lots of compound clips), but it's a bodge that works fine for me.
great vid dylan, thank you!
I appreciate how to fix. Had this happen and had no idea what to do, BUT what causes it in the first place? It may be obvious, but to a noob (c'est moi) maybe not so much. TIA.
Using Apple Photos as my video storage point with "Optimize Mac Storage" causes the dreaded "Missing Media Indication" any tricky solutions or is it that I will always have to have my clips local and not on Apple iCloud?
Hello, I have this message too when aplying crossfades. How do I solve this pls? Thanks, Frans
I have 10.8 Frans
Didn't work for me :/
Solution explanation begins at @1:43
Sure! If you don’t want to have any deeper understanding of what the actual cause of the problem is. Then yeah, that’s when it starts.
I have a film I am in production of. I have a scene where a Ouija Board floats across the room. It hovers in the air. It is a doorway into another realm. A demon opens the door and crawls through. I am having a heck of a time figuring out how to get the shot and the effect. Can someone please help. Basically the ring when the girl climbs out of the tv.
Is this a bug?
aaaaand Premiere Pro does it automatically 🤣
annnnnnnnd Premiere Pro crashes 10x more 😉
That's a dope trick. Love it.
I love these short tips!
Me too! They are easier to edit 😂 Expect more in the future!
I’ve done this before (not with the key command for that - thank you!), but sometimes I do notice that the outgoing clip is frozen. What I try next is speed ramping the last half-second or so of that clip to be as slow as I need.
Amazing tip!
Thank you so much for this one Dylan ! Extremely helpful as usual.
Mystery solved, thank you!
AWESOME! This happens to me all the time. Thanks for sharing the solution with us!
CAN the adjustment layers I import into fcp be unsupported because I’m using the trial version of fcp?
What about when this occurs at a start of the timeline without any previous footage/audio?
I totally understand why it's doing this but is this something recent? It's been a while since I've done some editing in FCP (about 2 or 3 months ago was the last time) and in the past I would be able to just select a transition drag and drop it between two clips and it would automatically overlap the clips for whatever the duration of the transition I would select, further more it would just let me grab the ends of the transition and make it as long or as short as I'd like. I must be doing something wrong or have changed a setting.
I couldn't figure this out for the life of me! I really appreciate this video. 🤙🏿💯
Solid solution to that common problem, and your explanation was spot on! Appreciate the shoutout brother! 😄💪🏼
OMG this is so useful!!!
I encounter this problem often and this method will save me some time in most of the cases. Thanks for this!
How long do you think it will take Apple to develop an AI tool that will recreate an animated "Hold Frame"?
A very very long time haha! I think a lot of their AI stuff is more aimed at iPhones for the moment. But who knows, they might surprise us all!
This happens when I try to add transitions between compound clips- is there a way to make that work without going into each compound clip and extending the ends? Thanks!
Technically you could still use the hold frame method here. But obviously if you have the extra media, that would be way better! Unfortunately, to my knowledge, the only way is to either pre-extend your clips before you compound clip it, or jump inside, extend out the media, then adjust it in the main timeline. I would love for someone to share any extra tips on this if they happen to know!
Thanks Dylan! I didn’t think of extending the clips in the first place until this video so definitely helpful!
You can just create a compound clip for them then cut it and add a transition
This is a great tip I had never heard! Thanks for sharing this.
I just tested it out, and it does work super well with transitions that have momentum. But doesn't work for stuff like cross dissolves and or wipes. But such a useful tip to know!
Will this work on the iPad Final Cut Pro?
Technically you could do the same hold frame method in this video. But to my knowledge, jumping inside the compound clip is your best bet. I may be wrong, and would love for someone to share some insight on that though! -- Generally, if you can, whenever you make a compound clip, try and give yourself handles on each side of the clip, before it's compounded. Then trim them back afterward. Obviously it's hard to think of this every time, but it does help a lot if you happen to think of it!
adding “TAIL" and “HEAD" to clips with a freeze or hold is a great work around to this issue that many find out the hard way…good to help people from breaking down in tears !
Or another way is place your cursor in between of the two clips then combine two clips into one compound clip and then Shift + B to cut it again and voila! You can now use transitions.
Such a great tip I hadn't heard of before! Thanks for sharing!
@@TheFinalCutBro No, thank you for all the tips and tutorials. You're the best, Dylan!
