  • I don't normally take commissions, but I was brave and took a 5 hank request for solid/tonal sock yarns. I really talked through the technique I used for this. It doesn't cover everything I do, and maybe I will do another for handpainted yarns later, but this is a great entry point!

Totally loving those finished yarns! Really beautiful.
I hardly ever take commissions on anything for that reason alone. If you don't end up liking something I've made, it's sort of crushing. The few exceptions to this are exact recreations with a picture, and if it is something that I am excited about doing. Otherwise, sorry. This is what I usually make. If you don't see what you're looking for, I hope you can find it somewhere else. ❤

I dyed two fleeces outside over the last three days. I was concerned it would be a mess and was shocked how tidy it was.
Thank you for Recommending the laundry spin dry machine. Last time I washed four fleeces inside I had water dripping from the ceiling and called a roofer over to find the leak on the roof.🤦‍♀️

Ah me too Trish! I wish I could take commissions but I’d feel so much worse delivering something that was different than what the client imagined- if someone falls in love with something that already exists there’s so much less anxiety!

Thank you for the inspiration and ideas! I love the dye card idea for starting out, I use lots of food colours on wool but am hoping to get some acid dye soon and was a bit overwhelmed by how many colours you can buy. Brilliant idea to start with the basics and mix your own before hand so you know how they'll turn out! Thanks :)

Question: do you mark the fibre on the dye cards as well? Does it matter? Does the brand of skeins or breed of sheep take dye differently? Do you sort by dye, by fibre or by colour?

They are so pretty, I love the subtle changes in color across the skein. I've seen single color skeins referred to as tonal and as semi solid, you called your tonal. Is there a difference between those two terms or are they interchangeable? Is it different dying techniques?
