I've always found Paul's continuing lack of enthusiasm for the Taurus Judge hilarious. It amazes me just how much distain he can convey in a deadpan tone and very little change in expression. I forget which video it was, but there was one revolver video where he shoots a bunch of revolvers, then meticulously breaks down their performance - as he does - then when he gets to the Judge, he just flatly says, "and once again, the Taurus Judge fails to accomplish anything."
For whatever reason, I've always found that simple statement hugely funny.

Concerning the old .32 S&W revolver, I recall a story told by cops in my home town about an old lady with one. She and her husband moved into a house as newlyweds in 1910, and he loaded a said revolver and left it on or in the night stand. It remained there for the next approximately 60 years. She was a widow by then, and the neighborhood had gotten rough. One night, a burglar broke in and caught her in bed. She grabbed that old revolver and stopped his will to aggress permanently. Wouldn’t be my first choice for a defensive revolver, but it it’s all one has…

My dear old Dad who had to grow up rough, carried a cheaply made 32 cal which he called its brand 'an Owlhead'. It had stamped grips with an Owl on them. He left it with his Mother as she wanted something for "bumps in the night". One morning as she prepared her first fire of the day in the fireplace, a black snake crawled out of her little wood pile brought into the house, and it was "on", with the 32 entering the battle, cause my Grandma feared snakes. Later that day he dragged out the mangled snake; 32's will kill a snake! There was also a busted brick in the fire place, a hole or two in the floor, and maybe a couple holes in the snake (as she used a chunk of wood on it liberally after it was gunned down). I still have the carcus of the gun, as over the years it broke apart, rusted and was abused. The brass fin front side is still shiny though.

@@ki-kodevorne7318 >> I mean yeah, more than Baldwin is to blame.
I'm not convinced that Baldwin has ANY culpability based on reports. Baldwin was not responsible for checking the gun (it was asserted to be cold by one of the authorized admins), he was not responsible for direction (Hutchins & Souza were), and was not responsible for determining if pointing the gun as directed was necessary for the scene (that's the safety officer on-set).
      >> But pointing a gun at someone while "joking" about shooting them-
I see NO credible report that anything like "joking" happened.
According to movie industry recommendations, actors can and regularly do, point real, cold guns at

As for the cigarette delayed fuse it did work before 2011. I used the trick in ~1999 to set off a salvo of screaming rockets from the roof of our small office on the 4th of July. I was down in the parking lot talking with the boss when they went off, it was cool. I doubt you could find any these days, but if you want to try again, look for cigarettes that do NOT have "FSC" by the bar code. The FSC label shows that they are "Fire Safety Cigarettes" and will go out if left unattended. Also the chemicals made them taste even worse. Thankfully been smoke free for almost a decade now, TMI I know.

Paul, thank you so much for pointing out the "not enough information" issue with issues reported in the media. Especially with court cases, unless we are in the courtroom every day listening to every witness, seeing every piece of evidence and hearing every lawyer's case, no one watching short summaries on the news is qualified to complete and unbiased opinion of these cases. At best we can have an opinion that could be completely changed if we were to get complete and accurate information. But the news media is so skewed by political bias these days as to be mostly unreliable in their reporting. Reporters today don't go out and hunt down a story, interview witnesses, act on tips and dig for the truth. Its all about being first and letting someone else update the story as additional info comes in. Our interest in guns automatically comes with the political baggage of being a pastime that has political opposition that almost always goes off of incorrect and/or incomplete reporting. I saw so much stuff with the Rittenhouse case that was later contradicted as to be laughable. One network would report something, and another would report the opposite.

Point is, too much media spin before and during the trial trying to persuade people that they saw something they didn't see, or didn't see something they thought they saw. The delay fuse absolutely works, but like anything, sample size is everything. Society burns up numerous decks and porches everyday, discarding cigarette butts onto wooden boards - maybe 1 in 100 will have a soft wind and it gets nestled in between boards and it burns right through the deck and typically gets the whole deck going. Look up John Orr - Fire Investigator from CA who turned out to be a closet arsonist. His tool of choice? A cigarette attached to a book of matches with a rubber band. In my 34 years in the business, it’s my experience that delays aren’t used very often. Most arsonists just dump a bunch of gas, light it and run. Maybe in wild land fires they use them but I work in a city.

Do you have any experience with wild land or small town arson at all, or have you worked in cities only?
Arson in cities is mainly gasoline and a match? So it's obviously arson. No insurance scams and the like?

Another interesting case study is the D.C. Arsonist, Thomas Sweatt. Fire Investigations and the criminal component of arson is a mix of science and an understanding of human behavior and firefighting influences on the evidence. Fire is a tool available to even the poorest of criminals that wields devastating power. Most who choose this tool know that society stands against them. These crimes are committed under the cover of darkness that I call the witching hour ~ 4 a.m. - the bar crowd has all turned in for the night and the working man has yet to rise. Suspects are deeply disguised and many times know their target due to the common themes of sex, drugs or money.

@@mtm7014 thanks for the reply! I checked out both arsonists you mentioned.
I couldn't find a real motive for John Orr but it seems Mr sweatt's motive was lust?
You mentioned in your second post that the perpetrators know their targets because of "the common themes of sex, drugs and money". You also mentioned fire investigations are a mix of "science and human understanding".
With those two things in mind, how often does the arsonist end up being mentally unwell, as opposed to the fires being set for those earlier mentioned motives of sex cash or drugs?
When you mentioned "human understanding" did you mean it in a psychological sense or more in a deductive/motive finding sense?

Man, I've followed Paul off and on for ages but somehow I missed this video; if I'd seen it when it came out I could have given him a lot of insider information as a heavy smoker on how different cigarettes burn, and how it varies form brand-to-brand and country-to-country, not to mention how an outdoor and slightly breezy environment changes how they burn (versus a small indoor environment). RIP, Paul, who did better with his limited resources than the current cadre of p-hacking and conclusion-begging academics he surpassed in honest methodology and unbiased rigor.

Yeaaahhh... If you know a bit about HST, then you probably don't wanna give off a vibe that resonates with him. Especially if your name is Paul Harrell. I haven't seen anything hard and concrete, but I've seen a good bit of interviews and such suggesting that Hunter S. Thompson was into some really bad stuff, and I really doubt Paul would wanna have anything to do with that.

Paul, I can commiserate on the media never getting it right: My brother was involved in a back-country skiing avalanche, the result of which was a self-rescue by his group with no injuries and no loss of life. The media went wild over the fact that they were skiing "out of bounds" when in fact they had not been within the boundaries of the ski resort that day, and were in fact on the opposite side of the canyon. The paper never bothered to print a clarification, correction or retraction. They just don't care. I think your call on the recent shootings is also a wise and salient position to take. Don't rush to judgement until you are in possession of the facts. Thanks for all the effort you put into these videos.

i used to be a journalist & left the industry because you immediately see that everything is biased & made to be sensational. actual factual reporting is long dead & it's jarring how many people are still whinging about it when it's common sense. SHOULD there be fair reporting? of course. but it's not the world we live in & the worst thing to be done is still consume it & then complain about what we already know. start viewing it as the tabloid coverage it is.
