It sucks to be born and live in India where nobody knows let alone listen to Gorky's Zygotic Mynci and all the other great British bands out there. It has been about 2 decades now and I am still the band's only but biggest fan here.
Facebook suggested this band to me a few weeks ago, and being a Super Furries fan, I had a listen. I bought Barafundle, and it's wonderful, so thanks Facebook, good for something after all. Sad to see that GZM are no more, but lots of catching up to do, and I see that Euros is still as prolific as a solo artist, so much to look forward to. I'm so glad music exists.
If you're interested, it's worth signing up to the email mailing list on Euros Childs' site, 'cause he's released quite a few solo albums 'In Rainbows'-style.
They never had a hit, and one can see why: the industry does not like people taking the piss out of them, and the first song is a good example. Bear in mind, at the time the bands the industry pumped up took them immensely seriously (remember how the Oasis-Blur feud was discussed with all the gravitas of an impending nuclear war?). Certainly Gorky's Zygotic Mynci did not make many friends in the industry and did not play along with a public that wanted their musicians to act like they were the second revelation (U2's Bono, anyone?) Shame, because Gorky's Zygotic Mynci deserved much more attention and credit. Their albums can still be found around (at least some of them), and I will keep delving into their music, humour, and creativity. Iechyd da!
euros' work is up there with mozart's and bach's (and mesut özil's) and whoever else future generations are going to rate as geniuses. ever so sublime and in a way odd but so unique and achingly beautiful.
