Hi Amanda, there are 2 major kinds of classical music in India : Hindustani classical, from Northern India, and Carnatic, from Southern India. This one is an example of Hindustani.
There are 7 main notes in Indian classical music, along with several auxilliary notes, same as do, re, mi in Western classical. A Raga is a composition made taking some notes together. Hence, as there can be multiple permutations of notes, ther are hundreds of Ragas present. This Raga (Bhimpalasi) is one of the greatest and most popular.
Each Raga has a 'Rasa', i.e. a mood created or denoted by the Raga. The rasa of this Raga is 'Shringara', i.e. denoting flirty, coy, relating to love.
Pls react to Nainon mein badra chhaye, a Lata song based on this Raga.😊

It's Indian classical karnatic music. One of the most oldest form of music and vocal singing on this planet. The one who masters this type of music, can sing any kind of song no matter how hard it is.

  • @Zai_Ji

This is serious, classical style Karnatic music form. I’m surprised and happy you found this and reacted to it. Indian traditional music is vast with deep rooted ancient history, and can be bewildering for anyone delving into it for the first time.

It's not karnatic music, but today was International Yoga Day (21st June) so would be cool for reaction to 'Adiyogi the Source of Yoga' by Kailash Kher. The video is beautiful.
Also 'Teri Deewani' by Kailash Kher is a brilliant song and video. I think you'll like it.
I'll let you know more about karnatic music in due time, but there are also so many other traditional music styles and forms in India too. Bollywood is just the equivalent of western pop music, although much of it is also very good :)

This is nothing. I mean she is really good but there were many who were even much better. If you research like u said you wud, you will find out. By the way its not her mistake but our mistake. In India itself you will find very few who like Indian classical these days. Also it takes lot of hard work, dedication & time to become a master. So this rich music is slowly fading away. Many of our ppl have a mindset that all that comes from Western countries is better as they do not want to actually feel or understand the thing. Simple example is of Yoga. Now a days many in India are doing Yoga but it started only after it went out & became popular in western countries. Before that aerobics was trending and ppl used to laugh at those few who were doing yoga. Same with music. Just hope that our music becomes popular in west & come back before it dies out.
