My dad taught me Boxing basics from 3yrs old. We are Puerto Rican boxing masters as children for self defense and anti-bulling in the kindergarden and elementary school playground.
1 - protect your self at all times (even after the bell rings (avoid unsportsmanlike behaviour)
2 - straight jabs to opponents Nose/ EYES / CHIN (jaw) and side temple & around 👂 🙉 ears
3 - Cross straight targeting same face spot as hit / targeted w jabs
    Lastly
4 - Hook 🪝 (or Gancho [spanish]) to face or body [body shots to ribs / kidneys (side/back)

Hope your stiffness goes away. Things hit at the wierdest times i swear.
As for dad sparring. Only heard that once. I know one guy but hes a bit of a... You'll understand
He did shotokan, sparred his dad and kept ramping up the intensity till he detatched his old man's retina. Blind in one eye now.
He used to say that like it was something to be proud of.
He did not know what 'light' meant until someone smashed his leg. After that he started saying 'we should go light', like if everyone else wasn't already going pattycake on him.
And even then he'd still ramp the intensity if he was 'losing'.
    Don't even talk about grappling.
He'd want to join the grappling sessions but knew nothing about it. One time he almost broke his own foot by trying to roll out of an extremely secure ankle lock. Same with his fingers, had his palm trapped then decided to explosively wrench it every which way.
Then started cursing about how the little guy was 'trying to break his finger'. Said little guy was moving like a snail, might i add while this idiot was twitching and jerking everywhere.
Even if he got locked in he won't tap if the guy was smaller than him, he'd rather pass out. If someone let him go because they realised something was going to break, he'd call that a victory too.
He'd injure you out of nowhere, random step in sidekicks to the knee, full power step in sidekick, one guy got dizzy after a hard headkick.
After a while anyone with experience didn't want to spar him.
But to him, i guess that too was a, 'victory'.

This was obviously planned. The boy is wearing protective head gear, but the dad isn't. They probably agreed in advance that the son wouldn't try to land any blows on his dad. You can also tell that the dad isn't trying to land any hard shots on his son. This is just a practice exercise. It's also a nice father/son bonding experience. It's great to see a father doing something like this with their son. More fathers should do things like this.

I think the Dad might be more comfortable doing quick takedowns (快摔), which is a natural focus for traditional Kungfu.
Since this seems to be sparring under boxing rules, he has to convert his takedown moves into swings and strikes, making his attacks look "awkward". It's also clear that the Son is going easy on him when it comes to striking. The Son had many opportunities to straightaway punch him but skipped them. :)
On the other hand, notice how the Dad's stance is significantly more stable than the Son's.
If this were under Sanda rules, the Son might have gotten thrown to the ground several times. 😆
