Things are moving so fast these days on the build that it actually feels a little overwhelming
Last week, I compared it to cooking Thanksgiving Dinner, and we’re in the part at the very end where everything is finally happening at once. The gravy is almost done but you can’t find the gravy boat, all the sides are coming out of the oven, everyone needs to get their drink, you realize you don’t have enough spoons for all the sides, and EVERYONE is talking so you can’t quite think straight.
Up until that point, the dinner cooking had been going pretty slow and relaxed. You’ve been quietly cooking sides and dessert for the past few days while listening to your favorite podcasts. Cooking the dinner has actually been relaxing and fun.
But when the chaos happens, you get yourself through because you know the BEST part is coming. Eating the feast.
Well, after 2.5 years of slowly moving through our house build, we are in the chaos part of our build.
New products/materials/appliances are showing up everyday.
All of our projects are wrapping up.
You clean up the work site and then it messes up again.
Everyday you wake up with an anxiety ridden feeling because you just can’t keep your to-do lists straight anymore.
But you keep going because you know the BEST part is coming. MOVING IN.
Follow along as we continue to push toward our certificate of occupancy.

And now a little back story on us, in case you just found us on RUclips. We’re Sara and Ryan. We are your average suburban family, but 10 years ago, we purchased a raw piece of land in the Hood Canal in Washington. We’ve been developing this piece of property slowly, and this year we knew it was time to go all in. So we purchased a log cabin kit home and decided that 2020 would be the year we built a house on our property. We plan to build this cabin (as much as we can) on our own.
Unfortunately, some unforeseen events in 2020 that were completely out of our hands put a delay on our cabin kit being produced and delivered in the time frame we had originally planned. While we could have just waited it out and pushed back starting on the build of our home, we decided to shift gears and change our course for the time being. We purchased a 30 foot yurt, and will be setting it up as additional living space when we begin to build our cabin.
In the summer of 2021, we FINALLY moved to the Hood Canal so we could start the build of our future home. While we are building our home, we are living in a camper trailer and the yurt that we built in the summer of 2020. We hope to have our cabin kit home built by the end of 2023. Just my husband and I are building the house. We get help here and there from friends along the way but other than that we are doing it all on our own.
Follow along with us as we build our dream in the Hood Canal.
