I too recently up sized from a Rocna 33kg to the 55. Love it! But years ago I gave up on painted chain marking. Instead, I use long color coded zip ties and replace as needed. The long tails are easy to see from the deck or pilothouse. Kinda funky but they work great!
Thanks Elizabeth for mentioning that masks mostly protect others from us instead of us from them. It's a pretty simple idea that's become a source of confusion for some. Love the channel.
Elizabeth You make great videos! I like Shawn's tee shirt, But I was surprised, Shawn takes so good care of the boat, But the grill....... Not so much? LOL! Thanks for sharing! 😎👍
The first upgrade I made to Summer Nights was a ROCNA. A great friend (Jason Smith) once told me as long as you hear the waves on your hull your anchor is holding. The waves are as loud as they can be and I sleep like a baby on anchor with my ROCNA...
Glad to see your anchor working . Just a thought instead of paint if you measure time on distance (1 second per foot of chain ) 80 ft * scope of 5 = 400 sec div by 60 = 6.6 min. Always worked for me.
Yep you could easily print up a chart for various depths with scope, lengths and times for Elizabeth to read off if she is in the cabin. A smaller version with just depths and times could be laminated for use when going forward to the anchor. Or they could just invest in a chain counter!
That little hole on the head of the Rocna is for a shackle for a trip line on a float. Many anchorages in the NW are marked foul and frequently have lost wire cable from past logging operations on the bottom. A trip line or a diver can be the only way to recover your ground tackle. A spare anchor with rode can be indispensable on long trips heading north.
10:00 THAT is the problem of the US. Here in germany, masks are a MUST for weeks now. No shopping, walking, public traffic without mask. As soon as you meet people, yiu have to wear a mask. Helped a lot and saved a lot of lifes, i think.
Absolutely. We're paying the price now for ignorance a few months ago, and super spreader rallies won't help. We need a PLAN. Good post Fu Thaiter. Public health is no joke.
I am pleasantly surprised by the quality of your videos, both in image and sound. Of course, the equipment you use is highly recommended. Congratulations!
Have you considered colored heat shrink in lieu of paint on your anchor chain? Or there are also chain markers made by Imtra corp that nestle in between the links that will offer a more permanent solution. Cheers!
Love how clean and tidy your boat is! It is incredible. Next time painting the chain try to spray some primer before the paint and doing thinner coats of paint, that way it will last longer. Wish you guys an enjoyable summer from Croatia - Adriatic Sea.
I was just at Manchester state park! Grew up in that area. Manchester is Manchester, it has it's own post office and zip code but it's pretty much considered Port Orchard.
We live aboard here in sw Florida and agree with you about a good anchor, we have a mantus which is basically same design. We love your videos. Thank you for sharing 8-)
Good morning from Cincy ! Hope you staying safe! Congrats on your new anchor. With all this crazy stuff going on, is there concern of problems on the water? Hope you have your CCW! Great show as always! Tell Mr.Sully hello! Be safe and well!
Manchester by the Sea it's located on Cape Ann. It's a really nice town and nothing like depicted in the movie. If you want to get depressed go to Lowell.
I am so happy to see more boats out in the sound. Especially in the San Juan Islands. I grew up on the north shoreline of Orcas. It’s been a decade since I’ve seen so many cruising around. Hopefully this activity is here to stay! Keep up your great content and positive energy!
👉🏼😷👈🏼; Hey, Elizabeth, can you tell I’m smiling at you? Haha, love your videos guys and the information that you guys disseminate thanks for sharing and keep up the good work!
Love your videos, and look forward every Sunday morning. My question is when you are at anchor how long do you have to run the generator, I.e. to keep the refrigerator and freezer cold? Keep smiling and love Mr. Sully!
Here's another idea.Seems how your chain paint isn't gonna last to long replace your paint with colored zip ties.maybe use enough ties per link til the color is noticable.(cut off the excess)⚓⚓⚓
Yea I live a town over from there, was making me cringe every time she said out west was the real Manchester by the sea lol. I remember all the filming and hype about filming for the movie. It was a huge inconvenience to all the locals and now all the tourists ask about the movie 😒
You two should check out Quartermaster Harbor on Vashon for a couple day's anchorage. Vashon is just south of Blake Island and there's a little marina and mercantile in Burton, reachable in the tender.
Well, Elizabeth, the Manchester-by-the-Sea in Massachusetts was incorporated in the 1640's. I think that makes it the original MBTS. :-) Born in Salem, MA, we have boated in and around Salem Sound for most of our lives and often find ourselves at MBTS for an afternoon of anchorage, sun and fun. As pretty as it is, your videos show that Puget Sound is a boating Mecca and I'm jealous you can boat year round. We're on the hard now for the winter :-( In 2016, on one of my cross country motorcycle rides, my buddy and I shipped our bikes to Seattle and rode them back to Boston. I had just one day to ride around town and got out to Port Orchard, to visit my cousin, who has lived there for many years. We had a nice visit and had lunch near a navy ship yard, before heading up the coast and across the Cascades Scenic Highway (Route 20). It was such a memorable ride we did it again in 2018! Other than that, business took me to Seattle now and then (Issaquah, WA and a conference at the Gates Foundation where we enjoyed a harbor cruise). Beautiful part of the country. Love the videos, especially your love of life and Shawn's tech segments. Keep the Q&A sections going at the end! Be Safe and enjoy your winter. Shawn, put on that mask!
are you holding the chain with the winch brake? or do you have a stopper that I didn't see?? not uncommon to use a line with slack in the chain to absorb shock when the anchor grabs. I didn't see you back down to set the anchor.
MV Freedom ~ maybe one day a full “how to” from beginning to end of both setting AND retrieving - just for fun since you show how you do other things as well. Just. A. Thought. 🤷🏼♂️ Have watched a couple of your vids now, very pleasant. 👍🏼
There's also Manchester, NH. But that's only Manchester by the Merrimack. Ha! I like your videos. I've always loved trawlers. I get tired of watching sailing channels. There used to be another trawler channel on RUclips. It was called Boat Family I think. They were out of Florida. I love the Nordhaven you have.
I’ve watched all your videos but never commented until now...I just had to ask...did Shawn say “just for the halibut”??? This has been a running joke in our family, and I’ve never heard anyone else say it! :). We’re boaters out of Seattle too, and really enjoy your videos. Thanks so much and keep up the great work.
Jeff Stewart 5-7 times depth is best practice and with the tidal swings we factor where we are to the high tide. That way we’re covered for both the tides and for a solid holding should wind pick up!
@@mvfreedom When you get to Australia, look us up in Cronulla, Sydney, NSW. Would love to show you our superb Anchorage here just south of the famous BONDI in Sydney.
VandB Axelrad we have a pee patch that shows up in some videos including our next one. It’s on the back with a fire hydrant and is easily hoses down to keep things from stinking. Sully took to it pretty quickly 👍
Excuse me - as a Mancunian, I can assure you the 'real' Manchester is about 150 miles North of Birmingham UK. None of your stuff about 'real' if you don't mind.
Love your vids. The research on masks is pretty solid; they don't do what most American's think they do. If it makes you feel safer, go for it. Your boat looks awesome. You guys are good boat owners and I'll keep looking for the next one.

Looked terrible

Shawn’s tee-shirt is great! Always enjoy your videos, stay safe!
Great photography, especially all the amazing drone shots!

Great times in the Puget Sound. Great job “Rocky”!
really glad your new anchor is working out for you, thats one piece of gear you must have complete confidence in.
Thanks for the video~ So fun to see Mr. Sully get the 'million $' treatment and an indoor shower! Safe travels!
Proud member of the Wisconsin clean plate club. Midwest yeah!!!
Haha. Didn’t notice before...RPIC. An acronym for everything. Love it.
I am pleasantly surprised by the quality of your videos, both in image and sound. Of course, the equipment you use is highly recommended. Congratulations!
It's nice to see that Rocky, is a rock steady anchor! Oh soooo puny!
We live in Gig Harbor and keep our boat at Arabella’s. Love watching and learning from you!
Have you considered colored heat shrink in lieu of paint on your anchor chain? Or there are also chain markers made by Imtra corp that nestle in between the links that will offer a more permanent solution. Cheers!
That’s a terrible idea
Glad your new anchor did a good job of keeping your boat anchored. Wonderful scenery...and enjoy the aerial views!
Glad that Rocky is taking care of business for you guys. Hope the paint markers last!
Once again great video guys i also preach the no food wasted with my family yeah!
Shawn has the patience of JOB!!!!
What a Magnificent looking Anchor! Well Done
Ha! My Greg has the same shirt! And we agree... our Rocna has meant a much sounder night of sleep...
The west side of Blake island around 60ft depth is massive piles of concrete on the bottom. I use to spearfish lingcod there.
Davesubguy very interesting!
Thanks guys for Blake Island, God bless.
Outside week at anchor. Never knew boaters named there anchors lol. Thank You for sharing, safe crusing
Man, the boat is looking great.
Hello U2! That is a Great name for your anchor! I sure like your anchorage right up on the beach! Beautiful!
There's nothing better than knowing that when you put the anchor down, it's going to stay! Great video guys.😎
Stay well! Cheers!
Hey, Rocky here, thanks for naming your anchor after me
I find I'm living through you guys..thank you

Joe Drummelsmith so far no, we’re trying to stay on the water to avoid the mess in Seattle.
MV Freedom good job ! Stay safe!

I have a 6' pole to keep unsocial distancing. If people violate the distance I will turn it into a pike.

Love your videos, and look forward every Sunday morning. My question is when you are at anchor how long do you have to run the generator, I.e. to keep the refrigerator and freezer cold? Keep smiling and love Mr. Sully!
We average about 6 hours a day to maintain the batteries 👍

It looks so beautiful where you are
Manchester by the sea is actually in Massachusetts where the movie was filmed, FYI
Yea I live a town over from there, was making me cringe every time she said out west was the real Manchester by the sea lol. I remember all the filming and hype about filming for the movie. It was a huge inconvenience to all the locals and now all the tourists ask about the movie 😒
Great vid as usual.Maybe for your next anchor you could call it Paul as in Paul Anka. Cheers.
Great video.I always look forward to see you guys :)
Without anchors like this life is pure hell
Always very relaxing
You two should check out Quartermaster Harbor on Vashon for a couple day's anchorage. Vashon is just south of Blake Island and there's a little marina and mercantile in Burton, reachable in the tender.
Yes we like it there!
I thought Manchester by the Sea was in MA, not Washington. There is a Manchester, WA, but not by the sea... Did Freedom get a flying upgrade?
Right, they got the state abbreviation upside down. And Manchester MA was incorporated in 1645, so it's been around a bit longer than Manchester WA.
Do you ever take road trips into the mountains from Shilshole? Manchester by the Sea is in Massachusetts.
Tim Morrissey and in WA too 😉

Always so good and interesting. The real Manchester is in the UK so there.
How do you manage the drone footage while docking the dingy? skillz!!
Mo Tech we have it hover over us and then land it afterwards.
Rocna = Anchor backwards without the H. Or... ancor (old English) backward.
Nice video. Thank you.
Lol, that's right, the more I know people the better I like my Dog(s)...
MV Freedom, Captain, and Crew. Y’all Anchor me. Rocky needs an Adrian or else he will drift.
Wrap your chain in Coloured Tape. Something that sticks to metal and holds up to water.
Terrible idea
I believe the Manchester by the Sea movie takes place in a Massachusetts town with the same name.
thank you for sharing an excellent video tender run to manchester by the sea see you next time shawn elizabeth and mr sully
NEW SUBSCRIBER, NORDHAVN IS A BEAST, BEAUTIFUL BOAT, ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT‼️👍⛴. Vinny 🇺🇸
Is Shawn the drone pilot?
And good job w/ the anchor markings...
Jack M. we both are but the Mrs is the remote pilot in command (RPIC).
Thanks, I had wondered that also..
Hi from the Real Manchester in the UK!
are you holding the chain with the winch brake? or do you have a stopper that I didn't see?? not uncommon to use a line with slack in the chain to absorb shock when the anchor grabs. I didn't see you back down to set the anchor.
Yes we backed down and we use a bridal after it’s set to absorb the shock. Works great!
MV Freedom ~ maybe one day a full “how to” from beginning to end of both setting AND retrieving - just for fun since you show how you do other things as well.
Just. A. Thought. 🤷🏼♂️
Have watched a couple of your vids now, very pleasant. 👍🏼
Google Voicer will do! We almost did once before but it wasn’t well planned so you’ve inspired us to do a re-do 👍
12:37 Thumbs up!
Who knew? We've never heard of Manchester. Great drone footage!! We had no idea we needed to name our anchor. 😆
I'm assuming you kept your old anchor as a spare. Have you ever been in a position or conditions where you thought of putting two anchors out?
No and we sold the old one, but we do have a small spare on board.
what model windlass is that and chain size (10 or 12mm). all good gear i see.
Great content guys. I love it.!! Thank you.

Jesse James we also really liked Boat Fam! Hopefully they get back to videos although with the new baby we can understand them taking a breather.
Hello from Cádiz, in South Europe, Strait of Gibraltar
javiercampelo00 hello 👋 👋👋
You guys ever do any fishing? I think that should be a big part of boating & it’s fresh food.
What you saw in Manchester is pretty much it.
Go to the boat shed restaurant in Bremerton.
Rocky? I suspect that is a common anchor name for Rocna anchors.
I never knew you were supposed to name your anchor. 🤔
Yeah I have been boating for fifty years, and I have never heard about naming an anchor. The dinghy yes, anchor no.
Thats what we said!!
That Manchester is way nicer than the one in the UK!
Do you guys have many problems with all the trees floating around in the Sound? Seems like there is a lot of debris in there sound.
Nope, not bad. It does help to pay attention
Not too bad going 7knots but debris is a big concern.
If you are in 50ft of water why do you let out so much chain....just curious
Jeff Stewart 5-7 times depth is best practice and with the tidal swings we factor where we are to the high tide. That way we’re covered for both the tides and for a solid holding should wind pick up!
If you had to pick a favorite alfresco dining experience between Manchester and Blaine ....which cuisine ...would reign supreme ?
A great Caribbean walk up called Un Bien near our home port in Ballard 👍
Did he not make lunch for you Elizabeth
hii, so are you still planning to go around the globe? ;)
Yes! Hoping to start that within 2 years and really hoping by then crossing borders will be possible and enjoyable once again 👍
@@mvfreedom When you get to Australia, look us up in Cronulla, Sydney, NSW. Would love to show you our superb Anchorage here just south of the famous BONDI in Sydney.
@@mvfreedom awesome!! Hope everything goes smoothly till then. Great channel you have here!
Y....dont they have a chain counter ? it would tell you how much chain you have out !
Huh
Love you videos, fyi the real Manchester is in the UK
dog11222 yes where all the good looking soccer players are 😉
We had mooring I called him Bernie
No snubber??
Bill Hunsinger no it’s always on!
Can you explain how / where you get the dogs to go poo poo?
It's the only way my wife will go sailing with me. What about the dog? She says...
VandB Axelrad we have a pee patch that shows up in some videos including our next one. It’s on the back with a fire hydrant and is easily hoses down to keep things from stinking. Sully took to it pretty quickly 👍
Lmao-nah, that’s a fakey. The real one is probably 20 miles NNE of Boston, Manchester-by-the-Sea. For real. Great boat you guys.:))
WHAT HAPPENED TO BRUCE? DID HE SURVIVE AS A ALTERNATE ANCHOR OR THE SCRAPHEAP? NICE VIDEO AND CONTENT.
RIP
I live in the real Manchester, u may have heard of our football and it's a little different than yours I'm willing to swap?
Sorry, but the real Manchester By the Sea is an actual town just south of Gloucester Massachusetts and yes the movie was filmed there.
Excuse me - as a Mancunian, I can assure you the 'real' Manchester is about 150 miles North of Birmingham UK. None of your stuff about 'real' if you don't mind.
