I just recently started building something called a “junk oracle” and it’s very similar to this. As someone who struggles with ocd, this is a much better form of divination for me than tarot or oracle cards. I have been reading those (cards) for YEARS and I still can’t remember the meanings and have to look it up and it makes me feel inefficient. Now for this oracle I am able to just…. Read without having that gnawing feeling to know what each thing means perfectly, to feel sufficed. Lol. Thanks for this video. Now I found a different term for the “junk oracle” I read about in a book that I instantly connected with.

    • @avsusky
      @avsusky 2 года назад +7

idk if it helps, but tarot cards don't have read be by their "official" definition and a lot of the cards have different meanings for me that don't match what the booklets say. When I started reading again as an adult I started off by reading a beginner book on tarot that suggested you try to intuitively determine what each card meant before looking up the definitions so that you can compare them and see which resonates with you better. From there I learned that some readers don't use the predetermined definitions at all and read them intuitively every time, maybe that would work better for you? I'm some where in the middle where a lot of the cards mean something unique to me, but once I've decided a card means something the meaning stays.

My tribe (kaurna, native Australian) use feathers and stones along with our bones, Magipies are actually symbolic to our tribes so I'm loving how you call it 'magpie oracle'.
To my people Magpies are the ones who lifted the sky and brought light to the darkness, they are messengers and bringers of success X
Different tribes do it differently(or dont do it at all, hell not even all kaurnas throw bones) , my grandma went a little further used a painted cloth to throw them on, it was painted to orient with a compass. Too bad she died when I was little, wish I knew what benefits it provided to her readings..
Im reading Of Blood and Bone by Kate frueler and that has a section on bone throwing that I have yet to get to but judging by how in depth the rest of the book has been, it's going to be very helpful.

As someone who’s been throwing the bones for years, I want to add that there definitely doesn’t need to be a specific meaning ascribed to each bone/piece, and often it’s better if there isn’t. While some of my pieces do have symbolism I’ve attributed to them, many don’t, and are read by me simply by the places they fall and their relation to other pieces. It’s a very intuitive form of divination and as such, the pieces you use shouldn’t have rigid meanings. For instance, I have some pieces, a broken jagged bone for instance, that typically speaks of a threat or some sort of danger. However, during some readings it speaks in a different way. Sometimes I sense it speaking of hurt or even protection. It’s good to have a general sense of what some specific pieces usually speak of, but to confine them into one meaning can really restrict a reading.
Other bones of mine have no specific meaning at all, and are only read based off their position or the shapes they make or whatever they speak of at the moment. Often they land in very specific and telling patterns, which can be very informative. They don’t each need a personal meaning. Plus, it’s very hard to ascribe some attribute or deep meaning to a simply bone, that doesn’t speak of that energy at all.
Of course, bone throwing is a very personal and again a very intuitive form of divination, and each person will throw the bones a bit differently. Some may find that having a very specific meaning for each piece works better for them, and if so, I’m glad they’ve found something that works! But I personally don’t prefer it, and just wanted to share my opinion for anyone who’s new to throwing the bones or who is interested in trying it!

I remember asking an eraser for answers in middle school, I'd 'quiz' it on things and it got it right everytime when it could 'see' what I asked about. Also dice for mostly yes and no. Dice worked better than a pendulum for me but I never thought of the similarity until now.

@Daniel I see that they never responded and kids in my school did this too so I figured I'd explain. It would be one of those pink rectangle erases and one the wide flat sides you'd write yes or no. One the skinny sides you'd right either maybe or idk. Then you'd just flip the eraser and what ever it landed on was your answer.

The 'Chinese clareomancy' featured in this video belong probably to a different category than 'throwing the bones'. While the anime show throwing what seems to be parts of animal limbs into the fire, in history ancient Chinese priests and nobles were more likely to use turtle shells, for turtles are regarded as an auspicious animal with its longevity. In practice this divinatory method relies more on burning rather than throwing. Turtle shells produce cracks when heated, and ancient Chinese priests would interpret the form, feature and other details along with the crackling sound of fire to dicipher future occurences. Therefore, it's quite a different practice than 'bone throwing' and 'magpie oracles', which reads the relative positions of distinct animal parts and symbols.

I do want to get into bone throwing (though I am IN LOVE with calling it Crow Oracle myself) but was always hesitant because I just genuinely don't have access to bones. Mostly because I lack the means to clean things I find. But using trinkets I have and have collected or received over the years with a few bone pieces purchased from reputable vendors seems like it could work out. Particularly if I treat building a relationship with it like I have with my runes. Thank you!

Thank you for this video!!! I’ve been putting together a bone throwing set, but have been unsure which bones (I’ve collected from the woods for years) and what else to include. I do have a bunch of old random trinkets, but haven’t discovered meanings in them. In general, my intuition is not very strong, and I have anxiety, which makes me second guess myself and agonize over doing things “perfectly.” This has kept me from just jumping in and practicing with what I have, not having distinct meanings for each piece. Anyway, looks like I’ve got some meditating to do! I was also gifted a rabbit hide that I’ve been thinking about using for this, but part of me wants to use a hide I’ve personally collected. (I’m not very practiced at tanning yet, and most of my hides are chipmunks-too small for the purpose, but I guess I could sew them together.) I noticed you have a couple small bones that look the same. Do they have different meanings to you?

very very very new to all of this! am somewhat intimidated about all of the ways that you can use, my sister is in the craft and I am drawn to some of the physiologies. but altho I am curious and would like to venture into the craft, I am also rather timid and reluctant! I do love your videos and I think that I have learned alot from your videos! thanks so much for sharing! xoxo

When I first saw this video in my suggestions I didn't think it would be something that I would be drawn to at all, but after watching your video I discovered that this is exactly the sort of thing I'm interested in. Thank you for sharing. I'm so glad I was curious enough to watch this even though I wasn't sure how much I'd like it :)

Watching this video right now made me realise how real divination is. I didn't know about this particular section before; but i have a collection of small charms and trinkets that would seem useless together, that i have collected since i was a child. So i guess they do have a purpose now😂✌🏻.

How do you get a bone throwing kit? I always figured I could eat a whole rotisserie chicken and use the bones to do this lol, but if there’s a more respectable way to obtain bones I’d love to know!

I was just watching this video just for fun I actually do this for the family at Yule and I like to use the individually twisted wrapped peppermint candy I don't know how to read it so I always make something up that is positive to tell to the spectator and it usually comes true on rare occasions does it not come true

This gives me the plan of when ever my familiar pass away this gives me an idea to still work with them after death and to give me something to hold onto them like how some ppl keep their pets ashes. Wish I knew about this when my special bunny died. But then again my ex was involved with that and it was not peaceful so it may have just been for the best I not use those bones. But thank you for giving me the idea of using the bones for future pets.
