What is wrong with Toyota India?? Have you ever seen their lineup in overseas markets? They have such a huge variety-The LandCruiser, Corolla, GR Corolla, Sequoia, Tundra, Tacoma, Camry, TRD Camry, GR86, GR Supra… We don’t get any of those here. The only Toyotas we get here are either some regular 4cylinder naturally aspirated FFs, or the mundane Innova (which every owner takes great pride in, but none of them are actually groundbreaking automobiles, regular MPVs…) or the Fortuner, the Camry, and now the Hilux, which in my opinion are the only true Toyotas in our country. The rest are all rebadged Suzukis! What’s wrong Toyota! Where are the Etios, Liva, Yaris and all those wonderful cars you made?? Don’t get me wrong, I love Suzukis just as much as I like other JDMs, but we must have a spectrum of choices like other countries have, don’t you agree? I guess it’s our taxation laws that are restricting Honda, Nissan and Toyota in our market… Absolutely pathetic 😔
Our per capita income is 2500 usd. Per capita income of overseas markets that you mention, such as America is 48000 USD . They can buy supra tundra etc. An average indian cannot. Indian government taxes foreign companies to protect our domestic industries from the heavy competition. Domestic companies such as tata and mahindra , which generate employment for indians. People who buy BMW Mercedes camary are rich. government use the taxes collected to aid the poor by building roads, schools providing free education, free water. Free electricity to farmers, free medicines , free treatment at government hospitals. Educated yourself before commenting.
The tax on any car (including EVs) is absolutely crazy. Govt should come clean on their swindling tactic instead of lying about "minimal tax" on these cars.
Truly an amazing car but the problem it faces in Indian market because of it's pricing is that Indian customers tend to go the premium brand way if they're paying 50 lakhs. Because of it price it directly competes with 2 series BMW, A class limo. But it's main rival comes from Audi, the A4 is a really compelling package compared to this, it doesn't have hybrid but that 2.0L turbo petrol is one peppy engine. This would be a great car in the segment of 35 to 40 lakhs, but that would be possible if the taxes on hybrid cars are reduced. Let's hope so. Great car nonetheless.
The A4 is a much better car in every way except for rear leg room and that too only if one wants acres and acres of it. Else the A4 has this clearly beat in all segments
I miss those days of comparo between Camry, Accord and Sonata. It's baffling why the Fortuner sells so much and not the Camry...I guess blame it on the SUV craze.
The word - Camry - is enough. It’s a symbol of reliability and a benchmark of understated elegance coupled with ease of ownership. I had a 2010 Camry LE 2.4 in the Middle East. Never throws a surprise at you. Always starts, performs and gets you home. Keeps going to the point of boring. It’s truly a marvel of auto engineering. ❤
I've been driving it for the past 2 years now. It's a delight and 'almost' perfect. The issues stem mostly from Toyota's reluctance to technologically evolve as fast as their like their Korean kin - Hyundai and Kia. But, it does the basics right, infact even better than the Europeans for that matter. Things are built to last, easy and economical to maintain. Build, passive safety, ride, handling, nvh, driving dynamics are all top notch. Extracting an overall average of 19 kmpl on a 2.5 L naturally aspirated engine for a 1.7 ton car is unbelievable, the hybrid system should be standard IN ALL CARS. Also, the 3 driving modes i. e. Eco, Normal and Sport and smartly placed and executed, my driving style has now evolved to almost subconsciously toggle them. It's the perfect car for the Indian conditions, wished it were a bit cheaper. Some issues in the long term ownership - 1. No 360 camera for such a huge car. 2. Active safety features like adas or even minor ones like blind spot monitoring are not present yet. I know adas maynot be very useful in India but front collision mitigation is very important imho. ₹20 lakh cars offer them now. 3. I wish the HUD had android / apple map based directions. 4. Spending ₹56 lakhs+ on road in Maharashtra (for a BH series plate), one would expect some sophistication from dealership, but no. You'd probably queue up with Etios junta as opposed to the German or Swiss dealerships that treat you like a king (whilst robbing you blind); the maintenance and replacement parts is surprisingly reasonable and a far cry from the European brands though. 5. Since this is a rare purchase in this price range, the replacement parts for insurance claims are hard to come by. My car bumper got damaged while parking, 360 camera would've helped 😅, anyway, it took them 1 month to source the bumper and the car was with them for legal reasons. I'm sure the car will last me a very long time per international reviews, but it makes me anxious about incidentals 5 to 10 years down the line. 6. Again, since this is a rare car, even the Toyota mechanics at our dealerships aren't too confident because of unfamiliarity. Final comments, if I could afford one again, I'd buy one in a heartbeat, it's that good.
When will the next gen Camry come to India? The new gen seems to be a level above what is already a great car. Hope they price it well with localisation (for export?).
No one's gonna pay 50 lakh plus on a Toyota for luxury that too for older gen model 😂😂. Hope they take indian market seriously and introduce newer cars which they offer in international markets.
Toyota stopped expansion in India a few years ago. They literally said they don’t feel welcome here, and there are people and companies that would absolutely drop 50 lakhs on a Camry.
This is the default car for all the American 🇺🇸 progressive classes and the upper middle classes, regardless of ethnicity and color. It's also the most fuel efficient among the lot, only the Honda Accord and barely the Nissan Altima comes nearby it
entry level car in the us = luxury in india its a shame that hybrids are taxed so much when they are the most practical mobility option when u consider emissions
Virtus GT 253nm torque ; 150hp With active cyl mode GT gives 19kmpl on long drives easily. So 1.5 TSI evo with ACT gives similar mileage to camry with hybrid at half the price
If FE is the only thing you're considering then do the same in city traffic with both the cars and compare the fuel efficiency. You will know what's what. I also like the Virtus GT a lot. But, no sense comparing it to Camry.
New Alto gives more mileage than your so called GT.. FE is not the only thing, but the luxury experience of a Full length premium sedan coupled with good mileage is something else! Camry is a segment above your Virtus in comfort and features.
Virtus GT tries too hard at efficiency, whereas Camry gives good fuel figures effortlessly. For me, If I drive sedately or If I drive fast the fuel efficiency remains between 19-21 km/L..I bet the Virtus needs to be driven at slow speeds like an old man to extract anything above 15 km/L 😂
Sir, wasn't GC an issue after Hassan NH, closer to the estate? For the classy, it's definitely the pick over the SUVs, but GC concerns once off the major highways, and in cities due to water logging.
It would be nice if the car review could only be about the car. In the 14 min video you only start talking about the car in the fourth min. If I want to know about Chikmagalur or coffee or kaizen philosophy of Japan, I would watch a different video.
Great video, as usual. However, knowing now that the new 2025 model has been released just a few days ago (I just watched a North America review last week), it makes sense to wait for that to arrive in India in case the Camry is on your list.
The Camry design is very enticing. Curves are elegant and sleek. The wheel arches give it a nice sporty look. The Camry in black looks really stunning. But am not sure about the ground clearance of the vehicle, with a very low slung, will it scratch Indian speedbreakers. Evo India may very well answer during their ownership and further to say Toyota needs to revamp the interiors of the car. They just cannot purely really on their engineering. Of course the longevity of Toyota and reliability cannot be compared but to the least they need to make the interior look more premium for the price point they sell at. Having said that….. if u ask me whether would I go for this one….. If at all I need to opt for a hybrid and the environment concern I will stick with Honda city hybrid and save around 25 lakhs and would buy a skoda octavia as another for pure driving pleasure.
Itz a nice car an every xyz is okay but don't you think it is old although it doesn't feel dated till date I feel that toyota's gonna stop this particular model idk but I'm telling this coz the discout for this car in tamilnadu is more than 2 lakhs. JUST wanna know people's opinion.
Why is that even after being in India for such long time that Toyota hasnt managed to bring down the cost for their cars? Or are they greedy to earn more profits ? Look at Camry - it costs whopping 57 lacs on road, fortuner 42+ lacs for base variant. If they cant reduce the cost and keeps increasing - one fine day they will lose out.
The biggest con is price and not manufacturing camry in India one OK the best sedan and my dream but price is very high and tax on hybrid company like toyota, honda bring more hybrid in India
So except that all noise is inside of the car its okey.. If you compare with superb or premium cars or if you change your old mercedes to camry you will get totally disapointed.

Great Video. Drive the future. The future is BEV. Hybrids are the relic of the bygone era.
Fav feature is just the hybrid system...I believe its the best around. Adequate performance and efficiency, what more could you ask for !
How is the drive on broken roads, potholes etc? Does the car crash and bang?

Lol Indian public don't deserve these type of cars😂
When there is taxation law means good for nation. Just see what happened to pakistan. Monopoly by japs market. Always support indigenous company.

Let's hope the tax on hybrids is reduced sooner

Question for team EVO - is the camry significantly louder than the ES300, is the lexus worth the extra money over this?
It is louder but not significantly
Does this car hold the candle to the Model Y or the BYD Seal? Its a great car that looks out of place in 2024 given the price and kit.
Any idea when the new gen 9th gen camry will be launched in India ?
Does this car have a welcome seat function just like the Innova Hycross? Can somebody help me with this info please?
