I subscribed about a year ago. My entire setup has changed, my tuning has changed, ergonomics, stick choice....
I'm a completely unrecognizable drummer now. Such incredible guidance and insight. Thanks!
I was intrigued to see drummers using these cool RC/HH grooves in the 80s, and I am delighted to see the topic covered here.
You have opened so many doors to more creative drumming. Thank you.
👍🙂‼️I've LOVED this when I first saw Gadd doing that! Great to experiment with & definitely a bit challenging, especially at first.👍🙂
* NOW, do everything all at once!😂
As a young teen obsessed with the rock and alternative of the day, the first drummer I noticed doing this sort of thing was Dave Abbruzzese. Then, of course, Will Calhoun.
That's exactly what I've been looking for. Thanks!
Beautiful work as always and very calm and cleanly explained. Very digestible! The same concept of orchestrating the left hand and left foot can be applied if the left hand was switched to the toms! Riding whilst chucking some eight note variations on the hats while the left hand plays Tom grooves adds a little more sauce in the pa.
As Dave King said in Rational Funk, KNOW YOUR RIDE! Every single inch of it...
Such a great series. Need some new ones 🔥🥁
If you ever decide to do a part II to this vid, give some of the 80's/90's Bruce Hornsby albums a listen. Album releases in 86', 88', 90', 93' & 95'....all great stuff. Thanks for the channel content
Man You sound amazing! Great videos for more advanced players here 🙌🏻
Just a small thank you for the Live chat last night. Enjoyed it. I really like that you just go for it in your playing and don’t play it safe in situations like that. You then work it out if you need to in front of the group. I think it’s invaluable for younger players to see what it takes to get things working. 👍
Keith - THANK YOU so much for the gesture. It was a fun one!
What a lesson. Foot hi hat before closed hi hat and is such a good sound.
great lesson Steve! I've loved your videos and playing for years :)
Thanks! Subbing to yours now!
Amazing all the way! You have the best groove no matter what :) Thank you so much for this!
Wow, thank you!
yes, Steve! Fire!
SHANE! Thanks bro - really digging all your stuff these days. So glad you've got traction and are out there being awesome.
Steve - just wanted to add my thanks into at least one of your posts, to say how inspiring I find your lessons. I really dig the thought process that goes into your playing and I find it really motivating. Loving all your stuff all the way from New Zealand! Cheers.
Thanks so much. 🙏
Man, you have the whole Interwebs drum lesson thing DOWN! Thanks!
Thanks Julian- I appreciate your support over the years.
Excellent Steve thx!!!!!!
Great feel, amazing sound!
Great idears in here. Thanks for this 🔥🥁
great stuff, Steve. Reminds me how much I need to work on my left foot :D
Yes awesome , keep them coming
Steve love your content how about some broken swing with hi hat would appreciate !!
Hi Steve, could you explain better the game between ride and hi-hat in 8:33-8:35? it sounds great!
This is a pattern i use for shuffle
RlRlllRlRLll
R=ride
l=hi hat
L=snare
Steve thank you for yur drum wisdom want do yu think of Rare Earth's im losing you hihat and ride combo
intro?❤🗽🙏🏻
Just checked it out - some pretty cool sounds coming from there. Stomping 8ths first then switching to the quarter note while doing that ride pattern. Neat!
Phenomenal skill Steve. Quick question, is that fill in the first two seconds just single stroke rolls? Sounds so tight and lovely. Thanks!
The roll down the toms is singles as 32nd notes - 4 on tom1 then 2 each on the other two toms.
You don’t have to a rough transcription of the groove you do from that song do you?
What hands do you use . I forget ?
Heads
Currently clear ambassadors on toms (top and bottom). Coated on snare.
@@SteveHolmesDrums cool . Thanks for the response . I’ve enjoyed your videos .
Thanks Steve! It feels that the audio is a little bit out of sync, or am I the only one?
Not seeing any disconnect here. Still experiencing it?
@@SteveHolmesDrums He is right, the image is a tiny little later than the audio when drumming & a bit more when you're explaining things.
@@MatthiasKnorrMusic Interesting I see it now. I didn't notice during the hours of editing actually. I'll keep it in mind in the future. It's the same system as the stream for the drumming. Maybe its not as noticeable there.
When is Infinite Warfare 2 coming out?
Good vid Steve. Have you heard the Camera Eye version from the 40th Anniversary Moving Pictures release tour? You might dig how Neil is laying super-funky accents on the hat with his LH...it's at 5:47 if youre curious.....ruclips.net/video/Q4qZBznWvDc/видео.html
Yeah I hear the accents, interesting. That tempo is way too fast for that song. It feels.......Rushed. (seriously though it's too fast).
