- Just a quick review of my car... noticed I seemed to describe everything as 'nice' before the assaults start in the comments. Feedback welcome, cheers
Ownership Review
Car: Lexus IS220d F-Sport Saloon
Engine: 2.2 Diesel / 220bhp / Manual geabox
Year: 2010
Respect..just what I needed to see before I buy one..much appreciated my fellow Brit 👍
Excellent review my guy!!.. Just what I needed 😎
Cheers, much appreciated
The Mark and Leverson sounds system is something else too! Incredibly high rated.
Totally agree with comments! Turbo lag! 6th gear crazy need 80 plus MPH to use! Gear ratios weird! Handling good lovely seating position. MPG is shite! Better built than any 3 series BMW!
The best car I've ever owned, I still can't stand the thought of selling it.
I love mine, 167k so far and still loving it. Not cheap to maintain but worth it and always a pleasure to drive. ☺️
You can pick up many parts from breakers these days on the cheap so it isn't all bad if you need bits. General servicing I do myself as you can get kits on eBay for around £50 all in which is nice. But yeah, I do love mine now, great cars and a lovely drive. Tough car to replace with anything else in the price bracket, apart from a Honda Accord, but I think this is a better all rounder.
Matt Perez looking forward for a hybrid ...gs maybe 😁
@@frizerse Yes love them as a luxury GT car, or the RC300h also look great
@Huli Huli: What kind of maintenance did you have to do that was expensive?
hey, are you still going with your 220d? Thinking about buying a used one but there is a Lot of scaremongering on the net about it
The IS 250 I imagine would be easier to maintain but the road tax is an eye watering £585..😳
It’s actually £340
Mine is on 270k km and still flying. It is the Sport Edition, so shorter gearbox and different diff. EGR and DPF deleted, chip tuned, bigger cooler.
Hey man I am thinking about getting a 220d with 130k km, is yours still doing great and can you give some feedback? Cheers
Much people on form said bad car but I feel you were so honest.
Does it run well now?
Just bought a 59plate is 220 d and absolutely love it up t now
Nice video good tips. How much does it cost to get another 45bhp out of the diesel with the remap? I have always liked the IS model but the biggest mistake I made was thinking I needed more power. I went from an Is200Mk1 to an Is300mk1. The 200 was a nicer drive surprisingly felt really lite but stuck to the road like it was on rails. I felt the 300 was too heavy on the steering and having the extra 50hp didn't make me enjoy it more just kept putting the back end out unfortunately. Hope you have no trouble from your Is my ones never let me down once. If you get the chance try a Gs300 250bhp
Beautiful car!!!
Had one for 4 years lovely car to look at and sit in with plenty of toys.
The engine itself is flawed has too many issues egr problems and limp mode problems was glad to get rid of it diesel is a thing of the past. Glad I went back to petrol.
I’ve had this car for 3 weeks and the best mpg I’ve got was 43Mpg
What on a motorway run?
Amazing!
I don't know if you know but i have been torn between this and a Honda accord MK7 diesel. I know, different as far as cars go but at the price of between 1000 - 2000 pounds for 2007-8 models for both i really struggle to make my choice. Any help between the two models is valuable.
I have got mine last month and I was swearing so much because of that lack of power under 2k rpm, It was not pleasant to start in very steep serpentine roads in Austria for me... I feel like I will drive it for another 5-10k and then sell it.
However, I have to admit, there are so many different electonic features in this car that I enjoy, but car does not respond to my driving as I expect.
You just have to adopt your driving to cater for it lower down the gears, it is frustrating but it is something you get used to also. It's a great car on a run out
How has it kept up for you recently?
I've read that there was also a transmission available with a shorter ratio from the factory. Would you know anything about that?
I fancy one of these, but only wanted the 2.2 over the V6 because of MPG... And if these are rubbish MPG even as a derv is it worth just getting the V6 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤣
Just the video I was looking for, great stuff. Can I ask how much the remap was or where from?
It was £350 mate including DPF delete and blanking the EGR valve. It was done by Edge Performance in Merseyside
@@mp_automotive Nice one pal, hope she’s treating you well
Just wanted to say amazing review, I've noticed these for 1.5k too. I'm looking at a slightly newer 2012 is200 f sport but its priced at 8k with 70k miles, rip off right?
They are overpriced, but to be honest I don't know what else i'd buy for that money that would be as reliable and would be as well built and kitted, i'd much an is200d over a 320d for example, i've owned both and i'd go Lexus for daily driver and reliability.
Thanks for the review ehmmmm.
ermmm thanks for the errm review errm mate, cheers
How is the fuel economy and is it too risky to buy one with 400k kms in it. (about 250k miles)
great car bad engine and gear box.... had this lexus is220d se-l 2 years done only 25k miles. had an issue with egr blocking badly, even took manifold off and cleared it was full of shit . replaced egr cooler as found a bit of pink coolant on it. used lexus engine oil lexus coolant all filters from lexus all brake pads disks from lexus then got leaking 4th injector was puffing like a train replaced seals was fine for a while then the car started to overheat and there was so much pressure that it was spiting coolant throught that wee niple on the tank. no it wasn't cap as i replaced it with genuine as was sugested in lexus forum. so yea car went to scrap. but still love lexus just would never touch another diesel.
how was the fuel economy compared from before and after removing the 5th injector? and the 5th injector was there for the soul purpose of burning the excess fuel left from the rest of the engine from the dpf, so to speak toyotas self proclaimed dpf self cleaner
In fairness I haven't seen a massive gain, prior I was getting around 26mpg, now I get around 30 - 31mpg. Still terrible for a modern diesel :)
@@mp_automotive btw, how did you block 5th injector? I have seen a video where a guy has replaced a bolt with holes in it for fuel with similar solid bolt, so fuel does not go through it. Is it solid option or it might lead to issues later on?
20£ 130-150 miles in city
How is it keeping it up since?
The DPF filter problems I keep reading about with these puts me off.
Happens in all high mileage diesels mate if you're doing short runs alot. Either get the DPF removed, or cleaned professionally, it's only the cost of a tank of fuel. I run CataClean which is an addative to the fuel every 3 months which massively helps, around £15 on Amazon, it's worth a look.
@@mp_automotive driving on the highway also cleans the dpf
I've got one, now at 60k miles, had it for 3 years. I only do short journeys, no issues at all. Just give it a good run once in a while, and you'll be fine.
@@tosepetrusev4248 It's literally the only thing you need to do. Drive about 20 minutes every other week on the highway and the DPF will clean itself!
@@MatthewTaboneMusic Any problems now? I'm looking into one.
Great video, thanks Matt. This may have been the deciding video for me... Do you think it would be worth buying a 2007 model with +-80k on it in 2021? I only drive 10 miles every day
If you do 10 miles only, then you should get a petrol engine.
I get high 40s/low 50s motorway.. sounds like the remap is dodgy.. 30 in city is expected
It was always this way prior to the remap. It's 20's in the city, not even 30's. It's low 30's on a motorway run. Great car in many ways but for economy and driving experience this car is dire. I still own it to this day as my workhorse.
@@mp_automotive definitely something not right to only get 30s on motorways.. i get that using 4th... 09 reg 125k miles
@@mp_automotive 2.4 long final drive
I hear there is a sport and luxury version. Sport has shorter gearbox that's why worse fuel economy
I want
I've got a 2007 model with an error message saying check vsc with some lights on the dash, these occured when i had the left rear bearing done.. pain in the ass, i've replaced both front and back left ABS sensors and the lights are still present, any idea what this could be?
Lambda probe
Do you have an induction kit in this ? I can’t find an is220d cold air intake / induction kit online anywhere
No mate, just the OEM airbox and filter. I've not seen other cone filters or anything either, pretty sure K&N do a panel filter but I'd just keep it standard personally
How many miles?
What the fuck? I just realized this car exists! I drive an is350
also does the media dashboard include an aux entrance for a cable at least for music? what other option do you have for music besides the cd player?
There is an aux port in an armrest.
I mentioned in the video mate it has bluetooth so I just use that, as someone else said also, there is an AUX port in the armrest. There is decent options
@@mp_automotive i went through the video so many times i forgot what was mentioned lol
Bro im in amercia i want to import one of these soooo badly. We dont have the 220d here 😭
My is220d is on 240k and ita absolutely mint
did u remap it
A head gasket on a Toyota engine? 😮
I owned one of these. The engine was basically a service item. After four engines I gave up. To be fair to Lexus they did cover the first few under the 7 year warranty. To be less fair to them the car was bloody awful, used about the same amount of fuel as the petrol version and was one of the most unreliable cars I ever owned.
Can someone what means fuel priming i read somewhere that u need to do fuel priming after every fuel filter change, sorry for bad english
in diesel you cant have air in fuel system so it needs to be bleed or you can fill fuel filter with diesel (prime it) and maybe be ok
I disagree, 6 gears is the best gear boxes, better than shitty 5 speed ones, i wish all manual cars would be 6 speeds, 6th gear gives fuel economy
I discuss the gear ratios pal relative to speed. They are a nightmare in this car hence the poor fuel economy figures.
I agree 6 speed boxes are great, but that wasn't the point I was trying to make. 6th gear is no good if you're travelling below 80mph in this car, it feels like the car will stall. It's far too high for UK roads. If you drive the car you'll understand.
@@mp_automotive alright man, understandable yeah, but from all the cars that ive driven that are 5 speed manuals, in european roads where the spring to autumn limit is 110kmh (realistically at least 120kmh if not even more) then the car is in fith gear and youre rolling at 3000-3500rpm on 5 speeds, it drains fuel like hell, ive seen 6th gear drops it to like 2000-2500rpm at that speed which is much better for fuel, at least from what ive seen, but obviously its different from car to car, and diesels benefit from it even more than gasoline cars, but yeah, idk since i only use manual i just like 6 gears too, more fun to shift, but yeah it does vary from car to car thats for sure yeah, ill take your word for it man
oh fuel economy very bad, otherwise great car I suppose
Eeeem
TO BE FAIR
Nah , manual transmission ❌❌❌❎
Can you please speak English?
He is speaking english
