The best video ever!! Especially for people living in the UK as I was always finding USA ones and they do things quite differently. You the man!
Thanks mate 👍🏻
Do you need to prime or waterproof the cement boards before tiling onto them?
I do prime with SBR as the boards can get quite dusty.
If I had wooden floorboards, would I need to cover them with ply and then put on the backer boards?
Would be fine for floorboards as long as they’re in good condition and not loose.
@@lesterbathrooms3948 thanks for replying and great channel!
@@savm8164 thanks so much 👊🏻
I used these boards a long time ago. The guidlines said to use beads of adhesive on the underside (their own brand) followed by screws (their own brand again). Im wondering why you stuck it down with tile adhesive?
A bed of adhesive is the recommended installation method for Hardibacker boards as per their manufacturer’s instructions. 👍🏻
I've a quick question I'm sure you have the answer to (I did search first!) - Is there a reason you don't need to back-butter cement board but you do with large fromat tiles?
Well, the reason you back butter large format tiles is to eliminate voids behind the tile. If you spread the wall in one direction, spread the tile in an opposite direction and on contact apply pressure to the tile, this will collapse the ridges and ensure there’s no air pockets behind the tile. This process should prevent the tile from cracking or breaking. I don’t think you have to be so cautious with cement board, especially as it’s screwed down. Although you still want to promote good contact.
Hope that helps mate?
@@lesterbathrooms3948 Yeah, cheers for that - I've a DIY project for the upsairs bathroom and your vids really help in planning.
