Instructions say to use a 47mm metal back box. Did you check the depth of the existing box and do you reckon plastic is acceptable instead of metal?
Wondering if drill is set to high speed or low speed? 1 or 2 on a dewalt? Sounds like high speed. I tried at low speed and it took forever but I was afraid to burn out the bit. Darned things cost like $25 each with tax in Canada. The millwalki diamond ones with the flat heads touted as superior. The pilot hole idea seems good too, but then you need 2 bits that are going in the trash after a few holes and using the flat head bits doesn't make sense then. Also saw a few guys who put some plumbers putty in a U shape around the hole to retain a puddle of water. Seems like a good idea. Also wondering if lots of pressure or light pressure works best. Hammer or no hammer, which one burns the bits out quicker. Nobody seems to tell you that either. Also noticed he was not going straight in with the second bit. Going in circular angels? That's not going to leave a clean 6.5 mill hole is it? More like 7.5. Then what anchor size do you use. Never using porcelain again. I had two grab bars each with 6 holes to drill. It's just not practical to spend two hours and two burned up drill bits and then the plastic anchors don't stick well either. At least a few would spin around in the hole or just come out. Who came up with this insanely stupid idea. It took me a week to gather the courage to do the second grab bar. I'd rather drink bleach.
You need to watch the video on my channel about drilling porcelain tiles. With the correct drill bits it should only take seconds. Check that one out.
Great ! Do you always put bath first and then tile on top? What’s the disadvantage of tiling slightly below bath line and then adding bath ? I figure it’s easier to use a step to tile rather than clambering about in bath but I’m new to this.
Bath in first, fill bath and seal, tile and grout, fill bath and seal. The process is about getting a water tight seal on the bath. If you sit the bath against the tiles you won’t benefit from a double seal.
@ Thanks ! What adhesive do you recommend (on plaster old tiles removed ) I’ve a shower above bath ?
@@douglasalexander4348 I use Kelmore for all of my tiling.
Nice video it’s easy to understand and more importantly it’s to the point. I now feel confident to cut my window in 👍
Thank you 🙏🏻
Love the channel..what is your preferred brand and type of grinder blade for general tile use? Thanks
Still really like using a Rubi blade for ceramic and porcelain 👍🏻
Can this type of affixing also be used on older traditional lavatories that previously utilised a bottom fixing seat ?
Yes, it should be fine for a traditional bottom fixing seat. 👍🏻
Thank you very much for replying and for the clarification. Excellent video Sir😎👍🏻
@ thank you kind sir. 👍🏻
Saliva? More bacteria into the silicone will make it deteriorate quickly.
Not true, old wives tale.
t shirt in = youve made a few quid, t shirt out = still trying to make a few quid
hi the fiscar ones are the same but half the price
very good and very neat tiler
Thank you 🙏🏻
hi , is the yellow walls at the bath just a painted wall or have you done some form of tanking waterproofing?, cheers
Hi, yes, it’s a waterproof membrane. I have made a video on how to install it.
Heyy, great video, very informative. Quick question, if the spring loaded mechanism is working, would you need to replace the entire panel? Thanks
No, you should be able to find replacement parts online.
whats the name of that silver piece you put on the edges
gold*
Lovely mitres on the trim. Great work.
What do you do if the screw will not tighten?
Great job... that said too little cement is not good... too much cement can be a disaster
Those mitres are impressive on that gold trim. How did you get them so nice ?
How would you solve the problem of such a large gap between the bottom of the shower tray and the floor when in comes to laying the flooring?
If it was a really large gap you could latex the floor or put a section of quadrant (half round plastic) to detail the area after the floor is laid.
Great, thanks.
Thanks for the tips, breaking the glaze really works! I used Fischer Duopower 6x30 and drilled 6.5mm through the tile. I then drilled 6mm into the wall with another Bosch Expert bit and it worked perfectly. I was a bit paranoid about breaking the tile hammering the screw/plug combo so I drilled a spare tile at 6.5mm and pushed the plugs I was using through that first
Nice clear demonstration. Thanks.
Great video! I'm looking at some ceramic tiles from the Spanish brand Metropol Ceramica for shower walls and this vid is so useful. The tiles I want have a rough textured effect and I wonder if that could be problematic in terms of cleaning/mould? But they're far less textured than the moulded 3D ones you showed at 1:28, so I'm assuming they're OK over the long term?
what thinset did you use for upper piece ,im impressed it didn't fall that looks like heavy tile
@@billhamilton7524 I use Kelmore, it’s great. 👍🏻
@@lesterbathrooms3948 thanks
Excellent video.
Thanks!
Amazing! Thank you!! 🤩
Hi, just curious as to why you're using a 6.5mm drill bit instead of a 6mm drill bit for those wall plugs? is it so you have a bit more room to hammer it through? Also, would there be a risk of the wall plug slipping through when fixing to plasterboard as you are drilling the screw in, in your experience? Thanks
With your videos mate, I feel like a pro tiler. Ready to get the job. 😂 Thanks mate
VERY helpful! Thank you.
Good video, use a body mic, better lighting and don’t fisheye the camera. The aspect Ratio is weird. Make it nice to watch and people will watch! Keep up the good content 👍🏻
Love it. I will be following your example 😂it amazing 😊
I bought the 6.5mm drill bit using this link to drill my porcelain tiles. My floor tiles are 8mm porcelain and it had no problem with one hole I needed to do for the door stop. But for the 10mm porcelain wall tiles it really struggled. It was super hard work to get through it with this bit and the bit was totally trashed after 4 holes (for the vanity unit). When I read the packet it says it's not really intended for porcelain. Have a missed something here? Or better to just use the diamond bits?
I prefer these to diamond bits personally (both wear out quickly) and obviously I work with porcelain every day, it’s just my preference. But I do emphasise in the video about using a smaller bit to pilot hole the tiles, it’s so much easier and quicker. Did you do this?
@@lesterbathrooms3948 Thanks for your reply. I've just realised what happened. I watched your other video How To Drill and Fix into TILES | Solid Walls or Plasterboard. I didn't realise that wasn't for porcelain and missed the link in the description for this video. There was only a link there for the 6.5mm drill bit and that was the only one discussed in the video. Then when I went to comment I put "drilling tiles" into the search and this vid came up. I didn't realise it was a different video. But thanks anyway, I've still got a few holes to go so will pilot hole in future!
Too long to get to the point
Just my way, I like to inform.
I put things that need descaling into the kettle at the same time I descale it. Strips all the limescale away and gets right into every nook. I use Oust kettle descaler, and after the items are cleaned and removed from the kettle, I spray them with 3-in-1 oil afterwards (as wd40 evaporates). Sometimes I use wd40 in the process too, but not to lubricate before assembling again.
Too much talking and no eye protection…
Protect your own eyes
Thank you so much!!! I am using it all day without any clue how it actually works. The dispear was getting real.
Are the quadrant doors universal in size
Very Helpful Thank you :)
Cracking job! Impressive
What do I do if there is no back box currently and just a wire coming out of the wall?
You will need a back box. Without seeing the setup it’s hard for me to advise really.
I will press a dislike 👎 on the one comment you made. I apologize for the dislike sir. But I hope my comment might get the attention for u to answer me. 🤣 I'm sorry that I have to laugh to, your video is wonderful, but silly at the same time. Who is going to what bathroom, what tile or what they use years later. 2 what if you don't know who did the work ether because u just got the property or is an apartment 🤔 😏 😉 🙃 lol U said make sure u call and ask the contractor what they use behind the tile or how they install it 🤣🤣🤣really sir? 🤣🤣 come on now. That sounds ridiculous, why not just tell us how is done or what can we do to fix it, prevented 🙄🙄 omgs. I'm sorry to be rude, i don't mean to be rude but I had to point it out because there is how scars people from actually trying, and that just sounds fking awful sir. Well I hope u answer me or fix it for the next video . Otherwise thank you for your video
Basically what I mean is that if your Porcelain tiles have been installed incorrectly and you crack a tile don’t blame me!
Thanks this helped me. I was trying to screw off the 'trap'. Didn't realise it just lifted off, until this video !
I just did exactly what this video said to do and it worked phenomenally well. Thank you so much for this great video!
Hi Rob what type of notched trowel is that your using?
Hi mate, it’s a Vitrex 20mm notched trowel, I think from Topps. 👍🏻
That's great, damn hopefully I can find a good bathroom fitter in London with that level of detail
All in one day, that good going! What model Rubi is that cutter?
Not in one day, maybe 15 years ago! 😂😂 it’s a TX - 1250.
Use Angesen Tile Backer Board will solve this problem
Thank you so much. I have been unable to use my bath as the plug was stuck down. I am so grateful
Thanks for the video!
Ive been a tiler now for 15 years and this is exactly the way i do it. Great tutorial for beginers. Tilings not about getting everything in the centre or starting off with a full tile, depends on how your other cuts will look, big rule is to not have thin slithers of cuts, as they look awful and hard to cut. Setting out is one of the most important parts of tiling.
