    I really think we should stop giving these Switch successor/Switch Pro rumors so much attention. It's been like this frankly for nearly 2 years now, and while there likely is new hardware coming, but guessing about it until it's true seems pointless at this point unless we have very strong evidence something is true, which is usually never.

I just feel like I keep hearing this nearly every headline when it's really telling me nothing. I've heard so many rumors about this that all contradict each other, make no sense, or come from sources that frankly I don't understand why anyone would find credible. Sometimes certain leaks come from people who have made several correct leak statements that weren't easy to simply predict. In those cases, maybe highlight what makes them credible. I was always into tech but I really beefed up our home network in 2020 when we were all at home. I ran Cat6a cabling throughout our whole house and walls. Doing drops and pulling them through existing old holes. It was a ton of fun. Now everything that runs “media” is wired. I never have to worry whether my 5ghz network is properly penetrating walls. Thankfully, I have a ton of land so no worries of a neighbor’s WiFi interfering but still. Hardwire everything you can… and then use wireless for phones/IoT devices.

    Thinking about it, a second cartridge slot on the dock wouldn't be a terrible thing, assuming the switch could register both, it wouldn't be unlike having a split-pack of games (think the Aladdin/Lion King bundle). It could provide a mentality of the game you play at home (Your TotK/party games you want on a bigger screen) vs the game you play on the go.

  • @Scott...
    @Scott... Год назад +3

    If I were to guess, the cartridge being on the dock was probably a very early means of figuring out how the Switch’s hybrid console model would work with higher fidelity technology. It was probably easier to just put all the complicated stuff in the dock while they figure out to how to put it all in the actual Switch, since putting it all in the Switch at that stage would’ve been too expensive. They probably ditched it immediately after they found a more viable alternative.

    The cloud gaming aspect is probably more aimed at the Asian Market, particularly Japan where cloud gaming is much more successful due to the size of Japan and it's very good broadband services. The adoption rate for cloud gaming in Japan has been growing steadily and as a whole is something they are embracing because it doesn't have the infrastructure or logistic issues a big country like the USA has. Another pointer that it will likely be an Asian service is that they are working with a Korean company. I don't think this piece of news is going to apply to us in the west.

    • @jazzrockr
      @jazzrockr Год назад +7

      During the FTC challenge of Microsoft's acquisition of Blizzard-Activision, many of the arguments that the side looking to block the merger looked into was cloud gaming, citing the opportunity for Microsoft to completely dictate that market/generation when it comes to fruition and the potential lack of innovation (on consumers' terms) that we could be missing be cloud gaming being dominated by only a couple (or three) walled gardens.
      But it also assumes that much of the United States population-wise is going to be somewhere that Cloud Gaming is indeed possible. Given that many places don't even have solid 4G LTE service in 2023 and broadband is dominated in many places by one private firm (or two), the FTC assumption on cloud gaming taking off might have been a hasty one for the USA.

      It's not that easy.
      An NVME speed is roughly 5-11GB/s
      An SD Card *max* is 300 MB/s
      SATA 3 is about 500GB/s
      SD Express(unreleased and in progress) will be only 2GB/s.
      Because modern New games require NVMe speeds *any* cart will not be fast enough. Or too expensive.
      If there are carts they'll be transferring files to storage for bigger games and running little nothing off the cart directly.
      Depends on the game. Smaller indie games and older games won't matter.
      New AAA stuff will. For example: Alan Wake 2 - It really needs and NVMe SSD. SATA isn't fast enough for how it switches scenes and all that

    It still has a dock, but instead of slotting it in the middle, it "clicks" into place on the front, kind of like a phone charging dock, with the screen visible from the front. They'd then utilise an always-on-display to display graphics on the switch screen when docked, and when played with a controller when docked, games could utilise that screen for their own logos/graphics.

    I'm also wondering if Nintendo released out the information about the Dock vs Handheld for Switch 2 to gauge public opinion would be. If they see it as positive, it might go through, if they see it as mostly negative, there's too much risk, thus they can back off safely and claim what you said that it's a rumour now due to a planned element at one point that was scrapped.
    However they would be smart to keep tabs on social media responses to see what their audience and fans are more likely to accept as a means to move forward.

      @@NuiYabuko Why would you assume that? That's a relatively smart tactic in an age where it's harder to gauge audience approval, and find the right people to use as test groups. This would guarantee you get the core group of gamers who pay attention to these details. The people who spend the most on their games and are more dedicated towards a system.
      It gauges potential public opinion with larger numbers of the population than most test groups, by leaps and bounds. Nevermind would be insanely cheap.

    Making cartridges only work in docked mode does sound silly, but what if they went back to a disk based system, where you could download your games from the disk onto the device to play in handheld mode. Then they could sell a standalone handheld version without the dock, and you could buy the dock separately, like the new ps5 slim.

    On the one hand I really like how Nintendo mostly announces and releases their games within a few months.
    But then again, if these companies are open and public about what's going on I really don't mind early announcements. They should just be clear when to expect it at the earliest and openly communicate when a project gets cancelled.
    Gaming is really weird in that regard. Most other forms of media tend to just announce their projects years ahead of time and are fairly open with the process.

    • @jodieholmes8453

      There's nothing weird about it, just look at how people react to official releases of concept art, they treat them like something was taken away from them. A game might start as a turn based RPG, then end up being an action adventure - and now you're dealing with all those gamers, who feel "betrayed". Why go through all that hassle? Plenty of devs share how the dev process works, do people listen? No, of course not.

      @tormentor91 Год назад
