Shauna x It is really interesting to contrast the two books The Diana Chronicles by Tina Brown and Diana In Private by Lady Colin Campbell!
In this video, I concentrate on the two occasions where it is alleged Diana betrayed Sarah Ferguson to the press in order to take heat off herself.
Both books have a different view of what really occurred!
I also discovered that Meghan and Harry might have got their Doco idea from Harry's Mum!

If you read the later book by Lady C, she says that Di had asked her to write a book (the one you read) about her life in royal circle. However, Lady C did go to get opinions from people in the know. Diana did not like it; that is when Di went to Morton.
If just half of Lady Cs 2nd book (post Diana) is true Diana was the cross for the rf to bear.

Have you reviewed Angela Levin's book?
Allegedly, AL claims that Di, Ferg & Andrew hatched a plan to block Charles.
      A was to be Regent.
      Shocking.
As to your comment about Di would not do anything to hurt Bea & Eug - discount that.
She did not think of the consequences.
      She lashed out.
Think on the people who believe her nastiness from MB or anu of the other crap she did or said.
The mess we've endured because of the reckless thoughtless barbs she torpedoed at people - mainly Charles but the Queen, too.
Think about two boys always hearing her side.
Wm who was Daddy's boy becoming adult - looking after her.
No decent mother should do that to her kid.
      Or announce Harry is thick.
Well, get him psych help & tutors so at least he can be the smartest thicko not the dumbest & laziest thicko.
      No.
She did not stop to think about how this or that action could damage or have very long term effects.
I hope if she were allowed to do it over again that it would be very different.

I liked Diana, read her book and was sympathetic until Harry and his wife! Also, she was vengeful, and narcissistic. She made Charles give up his dog before they were married, which he did. Gave an interview on her sexual life on TV without considering the impact it would have on her sons. Apparently, according to the Headmaster of Elton it was traumatic at the time for William who had to leave School for a time because of harassment and embarrassment! She was hurt as a child but didn’t consider her kids feelings!

After reading the Andrew Morton book and seeing her interview with the BBC I lost all respect for her. She was a nasty self centred person. Hitting her father in the face, pushing her stepmother down the stairs and throwing herself down the stairs while pregnant was enough for me to see what a drama queen she was. She pandered to the media to gain sympathy. She made Charles look cold and unloving which he was not. He loved and nurtured his sons more than she ever could.

I adored Diana untill recently, her son and his wife have changed that. I associate her with them which is probably unfair but I can’t help that. These little stories make me realise how manipulated we were and add to the feeling that Diana was not quite what she presented to the public.

    • @juliusmaloney
      @juliusmaloney 9 месяцев назад +48

Yes & no. Remembering that Diana was only 18 when she joined the Royal family and had little in the way of protection or guidance from her husband and was not particularly close with her own family. Growing up within that pressure cooker of an environment I’m not surprised that she learned how to manipulate people and circumstances to manage her way through that marriage and beyond. Add to that there were forces that manipulated Diana into thinking she was being pursued & persecuted (look at the BBC & the Panorama interview) that would have added to her paranoia. I think it’s difficult to judge how we would act under similar circumstances.

@@judywright4241Agree. Charles was being pushed to marry and have children. He was in love with Camilla but married Diana because he needed 2 kids and a toy wife. I've heard that PP told Charles to marry Diana or move on and if Charles did marry and didn't love Diana after 5 years, he could go back to Camilla. That's not good fatherly advise. It was an open secret that Camilla's marriage to APB was in name only, as he was a notorious cheat, before and after marriage. Charles absolutely used Diana as a breeder, there is no way around that. Charles also used Camilla to "break Diana in," as we have seen the pictures of Camilla and Diana at the polo matches. Even William and Harry's births were scheduled around Charles polo matches. Like most young girls, I think that Diana hoped Charles would change after marriage and leave Camilla. Well, that never works. What a sad and deathly mess. I have no respect for either Charles or Camilla.

I think that being in the navy and away from home for a long time he would be well aware that wives sometimes stray when the husband's away, not only Sarah but lots of other wives do as well - always have done, not just military either but golf is definitely another group of solitary ''grass widows'' - and he was able to accept that Sarah needed company and if he wasn't there then she would look elsewhere. Not sure she had affairs but like many solitary ''grass widows'' she would look for a man to keep her company and provide amusement, I suspect he trusted her not to totally betray him and he knew her character - they'd known each other for a very long time - which is possibly also why they've stayed so close, basically married without the priest.

This is great stuff. Thank you! Diana was said to have a strong streak of empathy with others and also intuition. For several years, pre-divorce and post-divorce, Diana apparently believed the Palace was spying on her. She came to distrust the police protective service because she thought they were tools of the Palace, and thus kept refusing to use it for herself (she had to use it when her sons were with her, thank goodness). So she ended up dead because she was in the hands of the inept Dodi Fayed and his minions. Now I believe that Diana was correct - there were spies. But it turns out, the tabloids were hacking phones and spying like crazy, but that wasn't discovered until years after Diana died. I've never seen it laid out - were the tabs hacking her phones, or the phones of people around her? Were they doing some sneaky stuff she had a whiff of, but attributed to the wrong source? Just asking questions, in case you can track down some answers.

Diana was a deeply damaged woman with enough childhood trauma in her background for a dozen people. She had some lovely characteristics, but also some rather dark ones - and like every single parent in the world, no matter how good they think they are -- passed along some of her dysfunction to her boys. Stir in Harry's own personality and background and we have what we have now. Its good to understand - but we don't need to demonize Diana for it. Just recognize this stuff is complex. She has taken every slight Diana felt and built it up by adding the “r” claim to top it off. Diana is disappointing in her delusional claims that she was never shown the ropes, but realize that she was extremely spoiled, picked on by her sister Sarah (Meghan’s Catherine) and delusional on how being a princess would be in reality. However, if Meghan followed the book, she would have known this!

Also, I have to say I hate invasion of privacy, be it from a neighbour or a paparazzi but, at the time, didn't paparazzi situations already plague the royals and If so, doesn't Sarah and her "Beau" look extremely unwise to partly undress and have very intimate moments outside of the protection of the house ? All I know is that although my friends and I are not "royals" and have no paparazzi following, none of us would ever have intimate moments outdoors. Maybe I'm not reading this correctly ?

My question is, where is all this plotting now? If the palace did all these things surely they’ve had enough ammunition to take down Meghan.
Don’t get me wrong I think the palace did it, they just seem to have gone soft.

Maybe! Different culture now I think!

I think the palace hasn’t necessarily gone soft but have changed their strategy. Now it’s a more slow painful downfall

@@dv7361I believe it's wise to stay silent, then give them enough rope to hang themselves. It seems to be happening as they sully everything they touch & are immensely unpopular currently. It's just like parenting, when you don't need to punish your child, just let them deal with the naturally occurring consequences of their actions.

I’m afraid I can totally see Diana doing that. She was a lot shadier than her image portrayed her as. If she and Fergie were no longer friends, she probably had no trouble selling her down the river. Diana could definitely be petty and vengeful, and unfortunately Harry definitely takes after his mom.

Shauna, you made Lady C's broadcast today where she expands upon this subject. It's 11-24 minute mark if you want to have a listen.

Yes however I think there may have been a more recent reading of Tina Brown’s book.

I don’t believe Campbell. Why would the Palace be writing a letter to Campbell who had written terrible things about the queen’s mother? Campbell is no insider w the RF. Diana had become manipulative & calculating but look what she had been dealing with since her bad choice of marrying a man a decade older, w nothing in common except the love of wealth & power?
