What is better than one Screamer-killer? Two Screamer-killers! Nick takes 2x the Leviathan set to the battlefield versus Tak's Ultramarines. For the love of god, please for this new season and new edition, show us how you painted those models, they're gorgeous!!!
tak and tycho, my boyz
jk I'm sure the whole team paints just fine :^)
I think its: base coats, higlights with airbrush and white paint (maybe white acrylic ink) and washes
Airbrush, seems like Tak mastered it.
+1
I agree with this statement.
Both paintjobs are looking amazing, but that dreadnought in particular is so damn crisp. Fantastic job!
Thank you for the praise. We are happy with the dreadnoughts too
@@kierensummers2441yesss join the imperial war machine
I can only guess Tak did it
@@PlayOnTabletop Tak can you post some tutorials for your airbrush method for these space marines please!
Paint job is amazing, but I don't know if I like the model. I don't feel it's space marine-y enough or something
As someone just coming into the hobby, you guys are incredible representatives. The production quality of these videos and your informational videos is top tier!
I think the nids of this box have too many gimmick units while the blueberries have too many heavy hitters.
Now that the points are out, we also now know the Tyranids are at a points disadvantage as well, the Leviathan box seems to assume you’ve never played marines, but have played Tyranids and own a ton of Tyranid models to supplement
I don't know, but the marines just seem too tough for this nid composition, basically all the gaunts are completely useless against even the basic marines, who are then rerolling hits and wounds to instantly wipe whatever threat the nids have. You could probably take the terminators out of the army completely and it would be relatively balanced.
The Marines in the box are definetly built to be anti-tyranid, but the tyranids arnt really built to be anti-marine.
Was this match done with the recent point release?
@@ssoroka65 No, I don't think so, and it turns out that on points, it's about right if you take the terminators or dreadnaught out.
@@ssoroka65 no, just with what was in the boxes. Following the epic hero rule ofc
I think the balance is worse than this match indicates. The dice luck was definitely with Nick most of the game and he still never really had a chance.
Still feels like the Tyranids are under-powered against the space marines. If they had gotten two full boxes of Leviathan, which they didn't, it would have been a overwhelming Space marine win instead of the slight one.
The levitation box is 100-200 points more in SMs which is why they have been stomping the Nids in most of the battle reports
yea, i have watched about 5-6 battle reports of 10th now, and it feels like marines are about 100 pts(9th points value) ahead of the Nids to be balanced. Sucks for Oghram in particular as a nid player
I want to see Tak play the 'Nids. Nick's personality is great, but I think he has not fully figured out how to play the 'Nids after being an Ork player in T'au shoes for so long.
It’s not just points, the nid list just has no reliable way to kill dreadnauts and only has the screamer killer to kill terminators… every match I’ve seen the tyranids just bounce off the armour… unless the nid player focuses entirely on their numbers advantage and play the objective game they don’t really have a way to win.
@@grilledboard worse than that, its closer to 300 pts less with no anti armor
The vast majority of Leviathan box battles I have seen, the Space Marines seem to win.
Oaths of moment is just wayyy too powerful. Whoever wrote that rule was smoking crack
I am not surprised. Have Space Marines not been the superior force in every recent launch set? I always see them as the force the kid plays to give them that early success in the game that gets them hooked, while their dad plays the Saturday morning cartoon villain of the edition, be it Death Guard, Necrons, or Tyranids now.
Plot armor like no other
They've won every game but 1 I've seen, and the guy playing them had never played marines before... At this point .. 7-8 wins for Marines, 1 for Nids. Not a great look. Tyranid shooting is just too weak, barely play in one whole phase and Marines are tanky enough that melee isn't the overwhelming phase it used to be.
@@InVerum - I've noticed a similar win rate. Every edition starts this way though, with marines being an early easy winner - but often losing later as people learn the ins and outs of the game and armies.
I just gotta say: the formatting here is phenomenal and so easy to watch. MUCH better than most battle reporte
This is a treat for another Tyranick showcase his skill, wish he faces GenestealerNick to see which is better, Tyranids or Genestealer Cults?
I love between Oaths of Moment and all the ways Space Marines have focus fire buffs they've basically decided, "Brother you see that guy, feth that guy. Frak him in particular."
It’s honestly very thematic, just hammering priority targets one after the other
tactics, tactics
I feel like one thing on balance, our current points had crazily undercosted marines so expect them to be far more elite and Nids (along with Necrons and Votann) to be more hoard by the looks of their data sheets.
I hope so. SM has some crazy good abilities.
Its GW. Marines are gonna be cheaper.
Yeah this should have been the case but no marines have plenty of cheap tough units
Yall are BY FAR the most professional battle reporters out there, I may not watch your non battle report content (I don't really watch ANY warhammer content besides battle reports) but I will stay hooked on this shit for ever. It is so much more cut down but you ALWAYS feel like you know whats going on (at least I do, maybe cause Ive been playing for a while, but still)
I fully support Nick's transition from the Greater Good to the Hive Mind.
I like to imagine that the hive mind just wants to bring all life into it's warm embrace.
Every tyranid is living it's best life, enraptured in bliss with whatever it is doing, whether that's crushing space marines skulls or jumping into digestive pools.
The Genestealer Cults have tasted this, hence why they work so hard to offer themselves and the planet to this blissful heavenly existence.
Maybe the Tyranids are the greatest good..
[UPDATE] Point costs have dropped: Tyranids total model cost = 815. Space Marines total model cost = 980
Great game, love to see the new rules in action. Well done to both players. Shame to see the Tyranids once again getting shredded so easily off the board. Optimistically, when they release point costs we might see Space Marines costed highly enough that they can only field around 1/2 - 3/4 of the box against the entire Tyranid force - *might* be enough to even things up a bit.
Right now it just seems like the Tyranids are not fun for anyone to play, just desperately rushing to get some objectives before they get tabled...
Yeah, as a Tyranid player Im a bit worried as I have yet to see a single Leviathan fight that didn't end in the nids getting annihilated.
Tyranids just seem like that they cant kill anything that has high-ish toughness or save. Barbgaunts usually only kill 1 marine or none with their shots, and their supression is nice, but it does not always come in. Winged Primes just seem incapable of wounding or get saved all the time.
I hope that when we see more units, like warriors, carnifexes and genestealers tyranids start struggling less.
@@yamilalcaide9448 We have very few high strenght weapons in our list. You can basically choose between melee: Tervigon with massive crushing claws has A4 WS4 S12 Ap-3 D6+1 D. Old One Eye does that better with A6 WS3 S14 AP-3 D6+1. Haruspex has A4 WS3 S14 Ap-2 D6+1. Carnifexes with crushing claws get A4 WS4 S12 Ap-3 D6+1. So yeah, you need to run up the board and hope the enemy doesn't guard his tanks/dreads with a little screen of troops or take you out as you try to get close enough.
Or shooting which is even more limited. Only three things have a higher strength than 9.... Zoanthropes has a A1 BS3 S12 Ap-3 D6+1 attack. But its only 24" range. Hive Guard with shock cannons will be more common now, 24" range with a anti-vehicle 2+ at A2 Ap-1 D3... Not hard to save for 2+ armor, but still. That leaves the only real good ranged anti-vehicle to the Tyrannofex - which will be a must have for tyranids lists now. It has 48" range. Heavy. A2 BS3 S18 Ap-4 2D6 damage.
Nids will struggle against any list that brings lots of T10+ units. But will work very well against infantry. But yeah, unless you can swarm the enemy or get in a bunch of genestealers with their Broodlord all while using the Hyper Agression adaptation - its going to be a rough time. Points are coming out today though. So perhaps our stuff will just be cheaper than most other factions so that we can bring more of it. Just don't count on it.
@@skalgrimfellaxe5796 I fear the points hope was nothing but a dream. Total costs for Tyranids = 815, total for Space Marines = 865. Only 50 points in it, the Space Marines could leave behind a single character and end with a *lower* points cost than the Tyranids...
@@christophervennix9861 yeah, we are out of luck it seems. Not a great start of 10th.
I don’t know about anyone else but I really love the background they have for each player showing who’s on what side I look forward to seeing if they plan on doing it for other factions that will play in the future
The Bugs in a normal box to match the marine need 20 more termagant , 5 more Barbs, and add 4 rippers…
Gants and Rippers are horrible... I dont think it would be enough, I think rather the box needed some good combo's instead, and more dedicated melee.
the terminator warp-in to the beat drop was so filthy.
Had a lot of fun putting that in the edit
This channel is a big reason I'm getting into the hobby of 40k
They're convincing me too!
I look forward to points coming out. I wouldn’t be surprised if the marines in this battle were still up on points. I could be wrong with the way the dice went for a while.
Points are out, 865 for the Marines, 815 for the Nids. A 50 point difference in one box, probably around100 pts with the two boxes combined the way they did.
Tyranids just can't get around the Marines durability. Most of the Tyranid stuff is 5-6 strength with -1 AP. Ends up rolling even odds or single advantage against the Marine stuff and getting shrugged on a 3+ save.
The only unit that gets double advantage is the Screamer Killer (Str 8, AP-2) which Oath of Moment almost always targets and removes turn 1.
@@christophervennix9861 Not always, i'm fairly certain the leviathan box is meant to be played in the Combat Patrol style which makes it so Oath of Moment is reroll hits, but not wounds. I could... Be absolutely mistaken here however.
As a starting player I love the amazing job your crew does putting these videos on. The content is very informative and has helped me learn quite a bit about 40k. At the same time, I'm a tyranid player only. And it's pretty concerning, even disheartening to see my favorite faction lose almost every game. To Nick specifically, your a great person and a great player. You obviously love playing 40k But I'd love to see you think more like a swarm, and less like a military unit. Thank you all, and I hope you can continue your content for many years to come.
Thank you for the feedback. In this particular instance we were just trying a "what if we doubled the Leviathan set" and Nick is very new to Tyranids. We do also have Tycho and Mubin who play Tyranids and can endeavour to put more varied play styles and lists on the channel to show off the Nids.
There's so much freshness and excitement with this edition - I can't wait to see everyone's armies come out to play!
Another great batrep! Tak and Nick both have their own unique style, makes a good pairing.
Well done with the Tick reference there JT 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you!
I suppose we don't know points yet buuut, looking at these battles Space marines ought to cost more than they appear in this game.
Nick performed well, but in the end he was totally outgunned and outnumbered.
Nick always trying to do something cool or different even if they aren't the best decisions hit close to home haha
Cuz he just wants to have fun :D
Now, there are many important parts of these 10th edition videos:
Amazing paintjobs
Brilliant editing
Charismatic people
Strategic gameplay
SPOOOOON
I can't wait to get my Leviathan box to get painting! These models are a great inspiration.
Awesome paintjobs on display here. Also, I really love Tak's Tachikoma t-shirt! =)
winged warrior prime in the trailer: rips a terminator in half.
winged warrior prime on the table: kicked to death by a ranged unit.
And now i will forever more be expecting JT's drukhari to march forward under the battleshout of "Spoon!"
I don’t own a single 40k set but I love watching these videos. The quality and editing is extremely well done.
Get some It will surprise you hoe much fun it can be to build and paint ur own
@@bradleyhall1815 pulling the trigger. Just got the recruit set with the space marines and necrons. Excited to try this hobby out
@@CommanderShiz Welcome to the hobby!
@@CommanderShiz good call man hope you find it as relaxing as I did. And I have no prior art experience. Both SM and Necrons look good in 10th too so good purchase
This is everything I love about Warhammer all in one video
I never thought that I could like Tau Nick even more, but now he's played my favorite army!
This season of 40k in 40 minutes is gonna be awesome!!!
amazing looking models, absolutely kickass job painting them. also what a fun game... oath definitely seemed way more balanced in bigger games but that makes a lot of sense considering how it functions.
excited for more of this season from you guys. 10th is so much easier to watch and follow along with as somebody who isn't really intimate with the hobby's rules and everything. should be really fun to see all the other armies and stuff
EDIT: screw marines though. down with the imperium :)
Cant wait to start this hobby again and collect tyranids. The terrain look so cool like something from Old White Dwarf.
22:14 Behold, the most tanky Carnifexes I have EVER seen in my time at PlayOn! JEEZ, those rolls were hot!
you can really see the less killiness of 10th edition in how often things get shot and don't instantly die. Very refreshing
New lighting equipment making a glorious display gents, everything is looking spectacular! Very excited to see the wall as the new backdrop for discussion segments! *looks for name*
For all the robot and iconic mech shirts Tak wears, I'm surprised he's not a Tau player!
hahaha. Never! For reasons...
The Sir Robin reference was bloody gold 🤣
Totally agree with the love for dreadnaughts. They look too cool :D
spacemarines look way stronger than the tyranids the screamer killers really seemed kinda shit.
Edit: Oh they are about 150 PTS stronger 🥱 I have always had a pet hate for space marines haha
I now say this is my favorite episode of Play On just because the speech impaired spoon bit 100/10 will watch again.
That one cracked up everyone in the studio too as we were working on it.
I love that Tak is wearing a Tachikoma t-shirt.
I liked that shirt as well.
Best A.I in sci fi in my opinion
Came from Angryjoes army! loved the podcast, had to subscribe cant wait to dive into more videos on this channel
I think the narrator has given himself to chaos
That is one way to put it
I honestly thought before tuning in that this was going to be a rematch, giving Nick a few more untis to balance the two armies. That was just too much daka daka from the SM giving them two full boxes haha. Fun battle nonetheless
To be fair, Tak was down 4(?) Characters, which should cover a lot of the points difference. It's more an issue of the composition of the nids army
Gotta admit, in all of the other 10th stuff where people have stressed "Fewer CP, so fewer stratagems" it seems to have been overlooked that there are a bunch of units that can stratagem for free.
It was a big part of this game with the Captain's ability to use a stratagem again and for free with the Terminator squad.
Awesome episode as always, guys! As a relatively new player, I would love to see you guys play with the Black Templars in 10th. It always helps me understand how I should play when experts like you guys play my army lol
I love when he just says, “plot armour?” 😂
Ah man, I don’t know how you did it Tak. It’s taking me ages to paint just one of my two Leviathan Boxes. Both these armies look fantastic. Nice work guys.
Tyra-Nick is the best thing that could happen. My favorite player and favorite army.
I’m just quietly in love with Tak’s T-shirt!
Having watched and read a few things now, I think Oath of Moment should be every other turn, and Doctrines shouldn't include indirect fire. Sam's would feel more balanced after that.
Brave Sir Robin reference had me in stitches
Thank you for the spoon intermission. Lol! I don't know if thats a nod to the tickbut im going to pretend it is
Absolutely was 😊
With the points now posted, it makes sense that Tyranids keep getting pasted. The box points are 780 to 980 (or something like that). If you count the non-full Ripper Swarm then it's still almost a 200 pt gap.
This almost double box battle makes that gap even worse.
The Space Marine side did sideline four units then add the Heavy Intercessors but yes, the set isn't balanced out of box.
No one does this better than Playon...NO ONE. That out of the way This batrep was an excellent learning experience and allows me to better build my own army...But one faction is one faction...Can't wait to see more armies duke it out. PLAY ON!
Loving the irony for Nick. 1 wound per beasty each time.
So this is why nobody else can buy the boxsets. They are piled up at the PoT studios :P
We have a couple yes but we share our joy with all of you so that makes it okay, right?
@@PlayOnTabletop Nah, it's all right. GW should do better when releasing a new edition....
I love watching these two play it makes me want to play warhammer
living for the sound effects at 36:01
I get the impression that this edition I'll be saying this a lot...
Me, an old school Tyranid fan:
"Wait, can WE fall back, shoot, and then charge back in? No. Of course we can't."
What an amazingly edited and produced battle report
1950 space marines versus 1640 tyranids, this should be interesting.
Damn, that Space Marine rolling against those Screamer-Killers was ABYSMAL. The dice gods abandoned Tak there in a big way.
marines staring down a screamer in mele combat: this is fine.....
Sadly, Nids really got shafted in the box.. At base; they're 185 points behind the marines... or 6 warriors, 3 leapers, THIRTY Termagaunts or a screamer killer.
in the base box, imagine how much different matches would be if the nids had thirty more termagaunts for the marines to deal with; and an equal point base.
Is OoM too strong? Pretty obvious that it is. I think a small nerf would be to have the SM pick the OoM target at the beginning of the opponent turns. It would make it way more interesting for both players and you, at least, have a way to react to it.
Let me answer your questions for you:
Is Oaths of Moment too strong? Yes.
Is the Leviathan box balanced? No.
Will Nick abandon his Tau for Tyranids? Probably not.
Tak "I am gonna do crack". Boys, get him some help.
Help
amazing gameplay as always, & the amount of hard work to assemble paint and set up the production is elite
Another awesome battle report!!
You guys actually got it pretty close. 1570 points of marines and 1595 points of tyranids.
Good to know! Thanks
It demonstrates how dominant SM is into this matchup. SMH
@@jfm.d5180 not really I’m pretty sure the Tyranid player tried a gambit and lost so he missed out on a lot of points, but besides that the space marine list pretty heavily countered the Tyranid list with lots of anti infantry and some punchy anti vehicle dreads
As a Tyranid player it's so disheartening seeing the marines just win every game I've watched... and although it "looks" close in some... it's really not. =/
Right now without points we are just using the Leviathan set and I'm sure once 10th officially gets going with the points things will be vastly different
@@PlayOnTabletop hey guys, what is the points difference between the leviathan armies?
@@oscarluckin1625 I think you missed where PoT said "without points"... so in short, no one knows how many points anything is in 10th yet.
@@toportime ahh okay my mistake I thought they knew the points but were just playing with what came in the box! Thanks for the help!
@@oscarluckin1625when GW played their exhibition game they added a full squad of termagaunts and barbgaunts, and a ripper base in order to equalise the point disparity… so depends on how expensive those units are,but it’s gotta be at least 200 pts difference.
Can't wait for season 5 to be properly underway. Awesome game as usual!
Really can't wait to start hearing unsponsored opinions and actual army lists
48:15 "Player choice had everything to do with who won the game" I'm not convinced. With the dice strongly favoring Nick's saves and keeping certain units alive WAY longer than they should have the Tyranids should have slaughtered if they were up against any faction other than GW's favorite faction. If the dice had gone that wildly in favor of the Ultra Smurfs the game would have been over in turn two.
Narrator had a stroke then said "SPOON" 😂
How come tac never used insane bravery to stop battleshock? Would have scored him lots of points.
It is a Battle shock phase stratagem and can't be used out of phase which is when Shadows of the Warp happens
Could you guys please put the images for saves, hit rolls, invuln saves etc. on the screen? It goes a long way in helping us beginner understand what is going on
I love playing with toys (genuinely warhammer is so freaking cool!!)
Ty Nick!
Awesome!
Amazing game and amazing paint jobs as always! But… I don't know, from all the games I've seen it seems that tyranids have just been bruntly losing battles, for now the only models we got for 10th edition are nids and space marines, but still, they did not even manage to kill half of the enemy army, ok that we have not seen any of the other tyranid models, but it now seems that battles stretch a bit too far in time spans, as everything doesn't die, and it is made less potent, like the goddamn screamer killer is supposed to kill things, those fellas just took a brunt of the hits and killed essentially nothing. Ok that this is a game involving dice and chances, but still, those redemptor dreads were not supposed to live through those strikes.
Tyranids are at a severe disadvantage in the leviathan box, not only are there more points of space marines but the only unit that can realistically deal with the terminators and dreadnaught is the screamer killer, which the space marines really don’t struggle to kill… really gotta play the objective game and get as much value out of the screamer killer as physically possible to stand a chance, easier said than done.
If Nick hadn't gone for the gambit, he actually would have won.
@@jtmcdowell2331 but still, this further validates my point, the nids could have not won in any other way, unlike the space marines they were highly unlikely to kill their enemy, consider the 2 main bulwarks being the screamer killers did not manage to even kill a dreadnought.
Don't get me wrong, I still like the changes made in 10th edition and the new simplicity of the game, but am I the only one that feels the nids being less powerful than what they were estimed to be?
I seriously am starting to think that Nick went for the gambit because he thought that his units would've not been able to kill the ones holding the objectives and hoped for their resilience to last.
@@The_mekboy_you_deserve I think you may be misunderstanding me my friend; I'm saying if nick stayed on mission, did not choose the gambit, he would have scored 7 on primary both turn 4 and 5. That makes him win by 2 without additional Secondary points.
Tak did make some crazy saves as well as Nick failed to do some damage with the screamer killers. I think honestly the screamer killer is meant for heavy infantry killing not vehicles. Tyranids also have the adaptive Stratagem to do lethal hits on vehicles, something nick could have done as well.
Not saying this is a "balanced box" by any stretch. It is a box full of awesome new models though. I loved painting the tyranid half!
Tak always has the best T-Shirts.
As far as i experienced the promo games i still think the Spacemarines are overpowering the Tyranids a fair bit. At least juging by whats actually in the box. There are just not enought Nids as i had expexted.
Christ bless you, such a massive army it's so cool!
Love your shirt Tak, I also love Ghost in the Shell
Let's goo!! Thank you for all these battle reports!
So It is Ultra-Tactical Tak vs. Tyra-Nic for The Greater Chomp!
Big fan of this battlefield terrain
Great video with fantastic production as always.
Hoping 10th edition doesn't let PlayOn down and gets better as the rules come out so armies can be built as it doesn't seem to be clicking for me yet.
Ima be honest, this the only channel I can watch batreps everyone else is so boring
I play MTG as my table top but I want to get into warhammer at some point. Something i've always that would be so cool is if there was a mode where you battled with models of the space fleets of the different races and factions in the game. Idk if that sounds fun but i love the design and architecture of the big stuff.
Every Tyranid unit in the leviathan box are trash except for the leapers… we all knew how this was going to end.
Imo Oath of Moment should apply to infantry only. Its a "punch up" mechanic that most tanks dont need.
You still have things like Dev squads and Erradicators, I think it either should only allow RRing 1's or only RRing hits/wounds and not both.
So glad tak got a haircut 😂
You got a new subscriber
I would have liked to see other models added to the battle rather than doubling the box set. Would it have been balanced? Who knows? But, that would have been fun to see
Yo, the beginning of the videos where they are talking in the background.
Are those names in the eternal halls of play on?!?
As white scars player I would love to know your recipe for the biologis. The white armour is SO clean
