    I’d take the Homelite any day over the Husky clone.

    Nice video Uncle Cy! I have an old Super XL that I got after the passing of my grandfather. It does not pull the rpm's like today's saws, but it has plenty of torque. It's a heavy bitch, but I still like to get it out and do some cutting at least a few times per year. I am currently on the hunt for a new 16" or 18" bar and chain for it. The hardnose bar is getting worn and I would like to switch over to a sprocket tip. I decoded my serial number and my saw was built in December, 1977.

    Great video and announcing. I'd still rather have a rebuilt Super XL even though it is a little heavier and slower, just like me nowdays. Thanks for the video!

      Might not be as powerful or as light however it will far outlast the newer stuff 4 times over with ease

    I still think the super xl is better, in my opinion

    I still use a 1972 SXl. To this day. Modified it to have 180-200psi compression. The old homelite and many saws of the day were never fast moving chainsaws. All power and torque.

    Homelite and pioneer brand saws were the first couple of saws I used, with an occasional mccolluch(sp?) The MC was a cold blooded beast, but almost never bogged down. Those were the only three brands dad used, and my first pioneer was all metal and kept you in shape carrying it in the mountains. 😆

    The 12, XL 12, then super XL 12 were very popular saws in the 60's used by farmers and sawyers. Back then McCullough and Pioneer were the only competition. My father sold them at the company he worked for. Very simple and reliable but boy would they wear you out. Around the mid 70's Stihl came on the scene and pretty much was adopted by all the sawyers and farmers. Later Echo and Husky made inroads and produces great products also.

    I have an XL 76 and an XL130 I rebuilt , my dad gave them to me one in a box new from when he was in the lumber business back in the late 60's and 70's Both are red and Canadian made in Quebec Canada. I have a newer stihl with 20 inch bar and when cutting is tough the old Homelites will do the job . really nice video new to the you tube

    Cy, Will be interested in the big saw. Been looking at suggestions and anecdotal reports on the bigger Chinese saws. I am waiting on one with 36 inch blade, also getting 1 inch square tubing to extend cutting width on my Panther Pro.

      I am hoping to get my Alaskan style mill built soon, but then I have to get the smaller loge out of the way so I can actually mill the big Walnut I originally bought the 105 for. So it is coming but between Job, farm, and channel it becomes a challenge to get stuff done LOL.
      Thanks for hanging in there and watching though.
      I will get to it as soon as I can if for no other reason just so I can see what it will do.

    Awesome video. I did watch when you unboxed the gift from your viewer sending the chainsaw to you. I truly am glad you got it rocking and rolling! They might have gotten lighter over the years, but you can't knock it for the age! Thank you I appreciate you sharing! Many blessings.

    • @DIYwithUncleCy
      @DIYwithUncleCy  6 лет назад

      Yep. I gotta say even though the Yuzhoukee was a tiny bit faster and a bit lighter, the homelite was more fun to use. Even if only because it has history and nostalgia behind it.

    When the Chineezer saw has cut 1/2 the wood the Homelite has re-do the competition. I have a '70's Super EZ that's cut enough wood to load a freight train. I find a slightly heavier saw to be safer and easier.

    That was a great video!! Thanks. It's actually got me thinking I need to change chainsaw brands!! I've been a die hard Poulan fan for 30 plus years. Thanks for showing me that there is a saw that can do it as good or better at a cheaper price.

    Man That Homelite XL is a pretty Saw : ) did you get the other one to run?
    I found another Bar & chain hidden behind some boxes - it's all wrapped in
    plastic so I haven't looked at it yet but I'll probably just ship it to you along with
    a few other little things! Have a wonderful day my Friend & keep them videos coming!

    • @DIYwithUncleCy
      @DIYwithUncleCy  6 лет назад

      Haven't gotten the other one to go yet, It has been side lined for the time being. Work blew up on me so I have been busy and free time for saws and videos is limited. I do plan on more of these type videos though and the Super XL auto will be competing more.
      Thank you again.
      Oh and I recently found and bought a 1953 Mall 12A. It needs a lot of work but couldn't pass it up.

      Very funny & looks like a good time too!

    Great video! That Homelite looks great and is truly a classic. Thought I'd take very good care of the Chinese saw, while getting my money's worth out of it... The Chinese saw would be primary work horse and the Homelite I'd maintain for an excellent show piece in the man cave with maybe some vintage McCullochs. Soon that Chinese saw could earn a spot on the wall once you've worked it like a dog and She's still ripping through logs a few good years after obtaining her... Nice video!!! :)

    His best video yet.
    I had a red plastic Homelite 10'' I carried it everywhere probably since 1982 and about 1990 I bought a XL Super 2 14'' I still have it,...I cut some logs last year and the fuel primer broke,......And I fixed the primer bulb and replaced the filter and fuel lines and it would not run? I put the switch wires on backwards,.....oops it runs fine.
    And my son borrowed my Homelite XL240 16'' and never brought it back.

    On bigger chainsaws why is there a extra handle on them?

    • @billyboots3730
      @billyboots3730 5 лет назад

      If you're talking about the handle in front of the actual hand grip, its the chain brake which has been required on saws since like the early 80s.

    • @Robert_McGarry_Poems
      @Robert_McGarry_Poems 5 лет назад +2

      @@billyboots3730 Or full wrap handles which makes it so you can turn the saw over on both of its sides. It really only matters if you understand what it is for in the first place.

    Cy, I have the YZ6200 saw (you won me over). I think I left fuel in it too long and now it only runs on choke. Probably the carburetor--do you have a video on servicing that saw? I am having trouble removing the carburetor and determining the make/model to find a rebuild kit.
    Also, I have no idea where to get a replacement air filter for it. Do you know what fits it?

    • @DIYwithUncleCy
      @DIYwithUncleCy  5 лет назад

      The YZ6200 is a Zenoah clone. So Zenoah parts fit it. The issue is I am unsure what Zenoah model it is a clone of. If you can figure that out then you should be golden. As far as where to get parts try here www.aliexpress.com/category/1250302/chainsaws.html?site=glo&g=y&isrefine=y
