I dont know about anyone else but I'm impressed, any saw that pull straight thru a 40" dry walnut log is impressive, I dont care if its chinese made or American that's a strong saw
Once she has had a couple of sharpens the bogging will most likely disappear so long as the depth guides are left alone for a while. Teeth are generic and with a long bar a bit less bite is a good thing. When I first started ripping I couldn't buy anything apart from a standard cross cut chain where I live. Reprofiling a worn chain worked a charm.
This saw has potential.
Funny thing is there are no American brand saws. Stihl does build saws here but we don't have any real American owned saws.
Uncle Cy, just came across your site today after watching some chain saw u-tube videos. You rock and that machine is a monster. I think i saw a 42" bar and chain on there as well. Greetings from Ireland and the UK
I tune while cutting hard in a log. I set the dogs and load the saw one handed, tuning the high speed jet till it pulls as hard as it can.
Hey Uncle Cy I can see my trailer between the coop and tree!!! Glad to see a update on the saw!
I I know the strands are so long because he’s cutting with the grain but God damn you can tell Who ever sharpened that chain knows what the hell they’re doing
Great Video! I have a MS660 clone that I do lots of cutting with but finally pulled the trigger on the new generation of the YZ105 excited to run it through its paces.
Mylan from Kansas City
I have a clone ms660 as well I figured that it would break the first week. It's been almost 2 years and still runs good
Thanks for doing a 1 year review rather then a 1 month review
I have 2 of them and on for parts put a stihl bar on it sprocket nose. Youll see a big difference. And. You have to pump that oil pump by hand. They do cut well for milling
I own a tree business and have been in business for 10 years now. I have always used Stihl saws until 7 months ago when I started buying the blue ones. I have now purchased 5 Farmertech blue chainsaw. 660, 366, 388, 440, and a 072. The 660 was the first one I bought, it still runs great in fact I used it with a 52” bar on 7-19-19 and it cuts great with it. The same day I used the 072 with a 59” bar and it also cuts great. The 388 out of the box cut great but now it want start a long with the 444, it won’t start either and never has. The 366 ran a short time but now runs terrible. The reason I’m posting this is for two reasons. One being that my two big saws run and starts great, but all three of the small saws have not done well. The second reason is Uncle Cy could you please make a video showing how to tune the saws to run correctly and give any other suggestions about the problems that I’m having. Thanks, Steve Miller
They probably have cheap carburetors on them with cheap diaphragms inside. The larger saws probably have larger ones and maybe they have direct clones of the original carburetors. Running ethanol gas is likely part of your problem. Always run recreation/boating/ethanol free gas. That ethanol stuff sucks and ruins things mighty fast.
No lugging power, pretty much looks like you just gotta let it float. It needs rpm, I'd get frustrated waiting on that thing, but you definitely know how to sharpen a chain. It would definitely do better with a smaller bar.
Shorter blade faster RPM, not a bad cut for a cheap saw!
Wow! Walnut? Man that is the hardest pull you can make a saw do. The resistance of those noodles is extreme. Big power! Good video 👍.
Hey bro, glad to see you pull out the big boy. I have the same saw and I love it. Mine is the farmertec version. I use it a few times a month. It is low rpm for sure. Great video. Can't wait to see what you make with the wood. 👍👍
So is this saw made by farmtech as well? I have this same saw as well I haven't used it yet. I'm wondering if it would run ok with a shorter bar and where to buy a bar that fits 🤷♂️
@@dennisferris4671 its a large mount stihl bar. Any bar for an ms880 or 070/090 will fit.
Sounds good in the cut but I would bump the governor spring up one notch and set your idle up just a little bit. Nice saw though.
Yeah, those ripping chains actually do well on the cross cut. They will stretch though.
I received my Cream Sickle Farmertec version of this saw in Aug 2017, mine sports a 36" .063 .404 Stihl roller tip bar & Farmertec .404 chain, the only issues I've had with mine is the fuel line cracked and leaked fuel, the clutch would slip due to the tension cone being improperly torqued , the high idle button fell apart and the air filter did not seal properly. It dose not leak oil or gas and starts every time after setting for a period of time in 8 or 9 pulls and 1 or 2 when hot. I bumped the max rpm's up to just over 9000. I to have around $450 in mine including bar and chain.
Yes they do not cut fast but it takes a lot of guts to pull a .404 .063 full comp chain through 36 to 42 inches of wood cutting noodles. Other than weighing as much as 2 Christmas Turkeys they are pretty impressive.
I am having problems with my clutch. It slips. I get it tightened down and it runs for a bit (no load) and then even with no load it slips and loosens. Any hints you can give me that helped you? Thanks.
Other saws are like a crotch rocket. Rely on rpm, but no tq. This monster is a semi truck. Low rpm and takes a while to build speed. But this thing is a monster.
That machine could put cross ventilation openings in both sides of a double wide outhouse.
Those thick walnut slabs would make nice turning blanks! Keep up the great videos Uncle Cy!
I'd buy this thing just for the batman!!
For a cheap chainsaw definitely does the job
Wow. Nice straight cut for freehand.
I have a big Stihl 084av that I run for cutting Green/wet birch and doug fir. I may have to look into these when I retire the Stihl.
105cc - Looks like a good saw, I want one! Your idle is set too low, seems like.
That is an impressive log. Might have to get me one of those saws.
I'd say for a cheap saw that bad boy kicks ass! Also talk about a straight cut man you could make a killer table top out of those slabs of walnut
Awesome 👍 video
I guess if ya ain't in a rush..the low rpm is mostly the problem.... nice straight cuts though... I hate seeing all the wasted walnut from the kerf..😣
I didn't know ,they made a Batman saw, where's Robin
OUTSTANDING!! 100% convinced me to do a 1yr vid (in 3 months) on my awesome 'scheppach csp2540' ($145 shipped for super lightweight top-handle, has been my 'daily driver' and it's the only 2-stroke I own that I've never had to tinker w/ or adjust the carb)
Seeing those 'noodles' from your setup w/ ripper/logger chain was insane I want that power lol!! I've gotta ask though, as I'll be looking for a saw like this within the year I hope: Why go with this instead-of those 'farmer-tec' kits that are Stihl/Husq clones? Those have such a huge draw for me because I know I'll always be able to easily source replacement parts, I'm the type that wants to keep&rebuild stuff even when it may not be the smartest/most-efficient path lol and hearing you say how you had clutch issues (however simple they were to repair) makes me just think "Thank the gods he didn't have an issue wherein he needed a simple part yet couldn't source it"!!!
Just subscribed, thanks a ton for this I love these vids it was @Love2Boat92's video on the lil $100-150 scheppach(/jon cutter/un-labelled, there's at least 3-4 versions/brandings of the great lil 25cc 1-handed, ~7-8lbs saw) that made me pull the trigger and, FOR THE $$$, I'm still of the opinion that *2* of these units + a 10-pack of fresh chains is worlds-better than a 192/193 stihl and is both cheaperr and WAY more reliable(w/ 2 units and back-up chains for always having a razor-edge, I've tried staying with "sharpen every time you gas-up" but in-practice I've found it genuinely UPSETS clients and ppl who are paying me (contract climbing) if I'm trying to sharpen my saw on-site AT ALL ie I'll get "why don't you sharpen before coming here?' LOL yeah it WAS sharp 2hrs ago when I got here now it's not :P But yeah my 1977 poulan 25d made me realize just how long ago chainsaws were close-to-optimized and it makes sense that it's easy enough for people to pump-out FAR cheaper units than sttihl/husq are so vids like this one here are such a treat not just for that particular 105cc unit but the whole non-major-branded niche, much kudos to you Cy I hope you check-out that 25cc unit I've mentioned IF you've ever wanted a quick 1-handed saw (remove its front-bumper/dogs and put a 12" on it, it'll never let you down!) Wish you the best cannot wait til life eases 'back to normal' so I can get back to daily youtube-with-coffee and start working through your whole catalogue here :D
To be Honest the G660 from Holzfforma is a better milling saw than the YZ105. Higher RPM and therefore chain speed and develops nearly the same horse power. I got the YZ105 before I know about the G660. Now I have both and the comparison saws G660.
@@DIYwithUncleCy hi I got a small mill never found a saw that I could afford that was big to do the job but that is how mush for a saw like that thank you for video
Hi Cy
Glad to see you’re still happy with it!
That thing inspired me, so I bought the same saw from HUZTL back in December.
It’s all I want to handle it, but not scared to tear into anything.
Thanks!
Jeremy Meyer
Doesn't eject chips like your other saws? Dude, those aren't chips, that's kindling🤯
I think it's because he's going with the grain but im not sure
ROFL this comment wins the thread lol that was so well-put & funny I genuinely did LOL, thanks :)
Ah good observation
I looked at his “chips” and just figured he was making nesting material for some rabbits!
.050 plus I'm guessing. IDK anything about ripping with a crosscut chain tho
with a little more RPM, would'nt that be great. one hell of a beast.
A big engine like that, 404, 42 inch bar. Runs more like a Cummins. Very impressive. Colin NJ
Colin Milde ,
No Colin, it actually sounds quite a bit more like a “small block” 2 cylinder Detroit. Although the saw is quieter. ;
Chips look like what comes out of my Joyner
When it comes to chain saws, that's a tractor, and I mean that as a compliment. But I can't by anything from China, or try not too!
The problem is that many manufacturers produce in China or get their parts produced in China so you're getting a Chinese product. That's not bad if the quality is there and the price is appropriate. Don't forget that in this case we're talking about the cheapest product available.
So where do you by from everything is made in China , Harleys , tools everything
Beast! Is this compatible with sthil 070 parts? Looking to get one but unable to find any parts online for later down the road.
Nice one 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Looking good ol friend!
Nice
One year the saw and bar look like like it just came out of the box. No way any of my power tools look this clean even on the first week.
I cleaned it up before the video, just for the astetics
I might be wrong, but Sthil made that saw
Great video 👍🏼🙌🏼👏
Sounds just right!
Great demo! Nice slab
What do you recommend for mill the 660 or 105
How much bite depth you have set on the cutters. The chips look like spaghetti.
Great saw,, cutting across does produce lenghty chip that can bog down any saw,, leave the he rpm as it is, bet ya lfe u mess with the engine it will go pop,, well impressed those. Great vid.
ya that saw dust is more like it in the milling video it looked pretty fine i figured the chain was dull
I think I'll buy one.
Id port the cylinder & muffler out
Is cutting with the grain more difficult or less difficult then cutting against the grain
What is the gas mix ratio, 25:1 or 50:1 for all these cheap saws? They say 25:1. If these are truly clones, they would be 50:1. What are you all using?
I have been running 40to1 with no issues. But then again I tune it to factory settings and don't over rev it so the lighter oil mix does fine. The original 070 back in the early 80s ran 32to1 if I recall correctly.
It still sounds doggy running but hey it gets the job done for a whole lot cheaper
Man that’s a big saw
Now I think I need this saw lol great video I subed
I don't think you can beat that saw for the price.
That old sucker did it! Looks torque and slow like original Sthil 88
Very good.😆
Sounds better
IF IT'S ENDORSED BY BATMAN YOU KNOW IT'S GOT TO BE GOOD !
V.V9
Power saw old school. He has 404 chain on it. I belive. I run 3/8 skip tooth milling chain.
Not a bad saw at all / pretty impressive in truth pulling a 404 chain threw that dried walnut . Great video ..
I was so worried you were making firewood of walnut which is a crime in my book. Then I heard the word/name grandberg and my heart attack subsided.
Did you have any problem with the chain oiler being set to high, bar oil on mine comes out to fast dripping everywhere when its runnng. Thanks
Have not had that problem, but I only use mine when needed for slabbing big logs.
Would it not be easier on the saw if you used a normal chain when noodling like that instead of a hungry milling chain that is ground to cut end grain ??? Just a thought
Have you ever looked into high output heads from baileys online you think it's a monster now. Another $100.00 bucks and it would scream
I like chainsaw
What rpm does this saw operate at? I’m purchasing one next week. Also, I need info for replacement bars and chains. Any help would be appreciated
Top RPM is 8500 to 9000.
He said Max 8500 RPM, how did you miss that? You know that you can rewind on YT vids?
How many drive links on the .404 .063 chain?
404 is length of link ,.063 is width of driver. So need to know how long the bar is answer your Q.
Cool video thanks for sharing, can I ask out of all of your Chinese chainsaws which do you think is the best for milling? Thanks Tom
The go to saw for milling for me has been the G660 from Holzfforma. It has a higher chain speed than the 105 and is matched in horse power.
@@DIYwithUncleCy thanks for your reply really appreciate it 😁
Very nice saw 🙂
Do those come in Diesel? :)
Out of curiosity, what would happen if a guy stood that log up on end and then ripped it down. I would think one would have smaller chips and maybe a faster cut. Honestly, I have never heard a saw with such low rpms.
Great channel!!
I'm trying to find a saw to run a 24 in .404 chain l took off an 08S that I changed over to a cut off saw.btw ,are those saws convertible like old oil tank on the outside stihls.?
I meant bar and chain.
Not much runs .404 these days only ms880 unless you can find an after market sprocket.
The more I used mine the more powerful it got. I ended up quartering a whole tree. Multiple times.
That thing sounds mean
Thanks she !!! That could make some nice gun stocks !!!
It made a good cannon. Barrel and all even mixed my own Black Powder. Videos are up on this channel.
@@DIYwithUncleCy whow !! Great !!! Glad to hear it went to good use !! That stock will be beautiful !!! Thanks for the reply !!!
Starts quicker than a homeowner grade Stihl.....
no kidding!
U will stihl be trying to start it when hes done using his chinese batman saw
I have this very same saw, great value but I seriously need to replace the junk chain that came with it. What would be a good source for a chain. I use mine for cross cutting instead of milling.
I had to custom order one. If you look on-line for chainsaw chain makers you should be able to order one. I don't recall what company I got it from and that was 2 years ago, of course it was a rip chain but you can order cross cut as well. Just be sure to have the correct Pitch, gauge, and number of drive links when ordering.
Whoa. Same thing like from the movie The Texas Chainsaw Massacre!
Do you have a link to your bar tip oiler for your mill? I can't find one. Thanks.
Also, the listing from the link I the disruption says max speed is 12,000 rpm, fyi.
Please Can you tell me on how long a Chainsaw can be used for Cutting up Logs or Trees Can they be used Continuosly with out a break and work Hours or do they have to be allowed to cool down for a while
I really depends on the quality of saw. A commercial grade saw can handle more constant use than a homeowner grade saw. Most of what is sold in big box stores is homeowner grade, and generally are not recommended for projects like milling. That said a saw that is used for milling that is running at high RPM for longer periods of time needs a cool down period after each cut. The cooldown should be to let the saw sit and idle for a minute or so. I am guilty of forgetting that sometimes 😔
Big ass saw! Doesn't seem to have enough rpm , although it's cutting thru the log.
These types of saws run very low RPM but very High toque. They are slow but will keep dragging the chain through no matter what. Impressive for what they are, however more modern saws far surpass their performance with smaller engine sizes creating higher torque at higher RPM.
@@DIYwithUncleCy How are the little saws holding up? I'm looking at buying one as a camping saw
the chips are vary stringy and long what kind off chain
He said it's a milling chain however the chips or the not chips because they are like spaghetti are a result of cutting the log length ways with the grain instead of what one would normally do cutting firewood which is to cut cross grain. The stringy spaghetti chips come out like that on any saw when cutting with the grain as one does with milling.
It must be the low RPM that makes it seem less impressive by video. Watching from this perspective feels like my 272 would keep up with that machine. But im sure if you made a cut next to it with a 72 it would better show the difference.
From watching your milling videos with this saw again, my 72 with big bar seemed to rip a 40" oak slab at the same pace.
Have you compared this against any 70cc range saws? Do you feel that this saw is worth its own?..
Actually I switched my milling saw to the G660 from Holzfforma. It is an MS660 clone higher RPM equal HP so mills faster. The 105 has become my back up. It will get the job done but due to the lower RPM it takes a bit longer. I will also add, to pull a 42 inch bar buried takes more than most 70cc and under saws have regardless of the RPMs.
How does it remain a cheap saw when you replace the chain and probably the bar. Luca
That's cheap price for a saw that size
I bought this exact 105cc saw with the 42" Batman blade and I've started it up and ran one tank of gas through it. It's amazing, I'm so excited lol. Anyways, would I be able to run a 30” bar on this saw? What type of bars will fit this powerhead? I'm going to be milling oak slabs with it very soon. I don't understand the oiler or the integrated chain break? I served in the USMC from 99-03 as an 0352 in weapons company 2/4 San Mateo California oohrah!! I was very sad to learn of your cancer brother, may god be with you as you kick some cancer ass!
Dude its a large mount stihl bar. Any bar for an ms880 or 070/090 will fit. I run a 36" .404 bar and full comp chain on my 880 and 090 for regular use. I run full comp chains on them up to 42" bar, longer than that i will go semi skip or full skip
Hey thx a lot for the tip, sounds good. I only want to mill slabs with this saw so I have the 42 " ripping chain for this bar but I'll order a 36” set up as well!
I like the full skip on my 41in bar and hyperskip on the 60in bar. It mills about the same speed yet does not bog the motor as much as a full comp chain.
looks like it cuts strait
R u using semi chisel chain it cuts faster .3/8 semi chisel would be faster agian with a faster sprocket. Depending I'm guessing if parts are available.
Good saw. Are you not cutting that log the hard way also. I wonder if it has enough rpm to run a skip chain?
Big Bill at Iron Garage that’s what skip chains are for honestly if the saw can’t really run a full house chain the skip should run good
I was woundring how it did in the chainsaw mill i am looking to get it for one
Looks like pulled pork not wood chips great video
What rpm do you run the 105cc at ? I have one in shed need to do first fire up.
He said 8200
Well it being a lower RPM engine all that means it should last longer .
thats no chain saw, that's a saw mill minus the building.
You would figure with that size of a chainsaw it would run a little bit faster sounds like it's running sluggish not very much power can you explain to me why would really appreciate it thank you in advance
These type of saws were made to run between 8000 and 9000 rpm. It has a governor that keep you from over reving it. It is possible to disable the gov and tune it faster but you risk blowing up the saw.
@@DIYwithUncleCy There ain't no governer on a 2 stroke engine (on a saw) there's no way to incorperate one, I have 30+ years of working on saws and small engines for a living, they are tuned with an audible or acustic tachometer for max high rpm( and it's stictlty the richness or leaness of the air fuel mix that determines this rpm), on the new carb compliant saws it's factory set and you can't change it, but on the China saws (for now ) you can still tweek them, now that yours has been well broke in it could be leaned out slightly more as long as you are using a high quality mix oil, from listening to that saw run it could stand to have the low mix needle turned in about 1 sixteenth to not quite 1 eighth of a turn and the high needle about the same, the idle would smooth out and increase in speed a tad and the high end would pick up a couple thousand useable rpm, even a saw in that size range should have no trouble turning 10,000 rpm all day long and still live a long happy life as long as good quality mix oil is used, If you really want to bring that saw to life see if you can get your hands on a velocity stack that would work on that saw with a UNI pod style air filter, I used to port and polish saws for loggers out here in Idaho years ago, and do the velocity stack trick, just a velocity stack would probably be a 15- 20% top end power increase on that size saw, the factory air filters and box around them choke the crap out of them where good cool air flow is concerned, anyhow have fun making saw dust.
That's odd since I can go buy a governor for this saw on Farmertech's web site.
I have maxed out the RPM by adjusting it it starts cutting out at 9200 So I back it off from there.
I am going to guess you have never worked on an 070 or an 090 because both have governors.
I also have and use a digital Tach to tune my saws so I do know exactly where they are, I get the whole "It should run better" thing but I am not willing to Blow it up. It is not an actual stihl so I am not sure I trust over revving it. I have heard of people removing the rev limiter (gov.) and running them at higher RPMs and I have heard of people scoring pistons and breaking rods on over revved saws. Not willing to do that to mine.
Oh and here is a link to the part perhaps that will jog your memory. www.huztl.net/Notched-Speed-Control-Base-Governor-Shaft-For-Stihl-070-090-MS720-08S-Chainsaw-p744312.html.
Good video but why buy a cheap saw that big that don’t cut half as fast as a brand name saw that’s half the size of it
Because name brand saw half the size of this will only pull a 48 inch bar for half the time that this will . In fact this will pull a 60 inch bar and I have yet to see a 52 cc saw pull a 60 inch bar at all.. Not saying it doesn't happen but can it pull the chain in a 60 inch cut?
DIY with Uncle Cy I get that but it’s each to there own but I personally like saws that cut a bit faster the older McCulloch’s cuts faster then that thing but it’s still a nice saw for sure just not my thing
Still the wrong chain need the big tooth for that low rpm use to watch my uncle cut in the early 80s and he was fast ... cause the teeth were bigger
This is a 404 pitch chain, any bigger your getting into harvester size chains which were outlawed on hand operated saws some time ago. I have a 1951 Mal model 12A that has 9/16 pitch which is a BIG ASS chain LOL. To bad it doesn't run. Maybe one day I'll get the parts needed to fix it, but for now its a pipe dream.
I got this saw recently and have had problems with the clutch slipping. Anyone else in my situation?
watch is unboxing video of this saw he had the same issue
Get a stihl 070 clutch from Oregon bar and chain it will solve the problems
