I had a fender twin all through the 70s and never blew a tube....I put casters on mine and used a hand dolly to move it around...That twin and my Les Paul Custom back kept me getting my back adjusted but now I don't gig out, I can have another tube amp in my studio without the worries! They are great amps! The other trick Dave...get a young guitar student to be your roadie....just make sure he's a giant
I have this exact amp… it’s enormous, heavy, too loud…. But it’s honestly the best tone I’ve ever heard in my life. I’ve debated selling it in the past and been round several music stores trying to find an alternative. I tried everything, mesa, vox, matchless etc. Nothing comes anywhere near it, it’s so incredibly fat sounding and has a beautiful fizzy sparkle.
Dave, thanks for this video here, Your Playing is always so Full of Soul Man, you play from the Heart, A Great Amp, keep your Great Video's Coming Brother, Cousin Figel
Best tone you've had on this channel? I wasn't in the room so can only comment via listening on RUclips but to me, yep, best tone you've had on this channel! Awesome 👌
Been saving this for after when I have paid the gas bill - just done ! Strangely I have a big smile on my face - that is the power of Dave Simpson. Nuff said.
Dad gave me a Twin, out-of-the-blue, 1970 or maybe '69, I think so I'd have no time to become a hippie. It almost worked, but my S&H Green Stamps E. Guitar sprang to life! Love your intro!!!
8:00- "This is technology that does work." When Master Dave says this it brought to mind my only vintage tube (valve) amp, a 1964 Blackface Fender Champ. All stock except for tubes and a new Weber speaker I put in a couple years ago because the original Oxford was too tired. I'm always amazed when I push that slider switch and the warm red jewel light comes to life (going on 60 years).
The Twin is one of my favorite amps and a Mesa V-Twin sounds glorious in front of it and it even works well at low volumes, which is good because it’s too heavy to take anywhere.
I have a Mesa V-Twin! They are such underrated things! I've had mine for over 25 years now, and I swear by it. And yeah, it and a Fender Twin/The Twin is a glorious combo.
Aaah! I literally just bought this very amp! I never even heard of it before today! I found one at a local guitar shop in town. I played it on all 3 channels and looked it over a bit. I played it next to a “real” twin verb, and I was super impressed with the sound!! I bought it on the spot! The gentleman who sold it to me even came down $159 off his asking price! I figured, can find regular twins, deluxe, Princetons, and all the usual suspects all day, every day, but this!? I’m 55 and it’s the first one I’ve ever seen until today. So I bought her. Btw, mine came on casters! FS included too!
I just got a handwired customized Fender Deluxe and it's a heavy beast but it will never move from my studio ...tone for days! found you can use the effects loop as an attenuator of sorts or as a volume control you can control with a volume pedal or eq, etc.
I had this amp. It was an absolute tank. Probably the most reliable tube amp I ever owned. I had it installed with caster wheels so all I had to do is lift it out of the car and could roll the rest of the way. It weighs close to 80 pounds, and was ungodly loud, so that's why I ended up selling it. Sounded great though. I think that's the same model which had an ability to self bias the tubes in the back. All you need was a multimeter and a screwdriver you could bias the tubes without taking it to a tech. I never understood why fender got rid of that ability on their amps.
@balke7935 huh. The red knob twin is the red knob. The evil twin was from an advertisement that had both the 65 RI and the twin amp. And referred to the twin amp as the evil twin. Not the red knob. Google it. Find the magazine article. Easy to find.
My red knob twin solved all my stage problems. It just sounded amazing for everything... favorite amp ever by far. Damn was it heavy. Hernia heavy. Thanks. Great playing!
That was an exemplary performance. It's like you're part of the music. I can tell how much you enjoy it just by watching you. I found you because I am researching amplifiers. A guy where I live in Batavia New York has the orange cr100 Pro for a reasonable price. That's how I found your Channel
So Dave, have you crossed over? Have you joined the bright orange light of 6L6's and the little ones? Have you finally heard the call of the Twin? COME, JOIN US, JOIN US, JOIN US...... join us.........join us.........join us..........join us.......join us......jo.. The Fender Twin Family, that is. Lol. Great Video thanks.
great video! i work daily on live shows with 2 65 ri twins or backbreakers...made them sound even better with some vintage glass. in the 65 ri models or vintage twins you have 2 clean channels each has a first preamp tube so by swapping the first 2 preamp tubes you can create 2 great and different voicings and have 2 amps in one heavy box!
Is there really such a word as agog? Well... if there is, I'm 4 minutes in, and agog. I hope he says he hates the amp later. I just bought a subzero 100 yesterday. Dave! You're bankrupting me! 🤣
Friggin awesome playing Dave! I love Fender amps, I cant believe how good my Champion 100 is even on low volume, and its a cheap amp! The higher end Fenders are just incredible but even their lower end ones do the job brilliantly. Great vid as always Dave cheers
Killer demo. I got one of the twin it's being put together it's been taken apart to have cabinet refinished never heard it but if it sounds anything like yours I'll be overwhelming plus you have a wonderful playing sound I'm sure that helps a lot. Thank you for sharing 2thumbs up...
18:55 Yellow tele takes the cake. Just picked up OASIS old Fender "Twin" and have been playing with the 200 buttons and I literally THINK, I might like it over my 64 twin.....its so warmmmmm
Oh man what a beautiful tone man that strat is gorgeous wish I had my 76 hard tail was the same color and Maple board I get very sad about losing that guitar .great video Dave..🤘🎛🎸🥁🎶
Hiya Dave, just a thought I've got a peavey 115 stage speaker, 16" I think and 2 18" hand built stage speakers from a church, they left them in a big out building for 20 years till I came along, did a days work with no pay to get them. Their all wired into my rig, what's the biggest speakers you've got ,I like big boxes, Good luck, Djk.

Very inspiring playing so good hopefully my new guitar arrives tomorrow. Did you mean your tone master deluxe or a tube one you may have that you think is a bit better . ?
I’m just starting in a new band, sort of shoegazey, using a 50w JCM 900 head and 2x12 cab but I’m interested in changing to a combo after using a peavey delta blues in practice turned up basically all the way it sounded insane but just wondering what you think and if you’ve tried any decent valve combos that you’d consider nicer than a jcm 900. I really enjoy my amp but I’m not sure how convenient a head and cab are. Context wise I always use a lot of preamp gain for my pedals

I’ve ran this amp in stereo with a Fender Dual Professional amp for decades, but on its own, I’ve found that an old 2 knob yellow Boss OD-1 pedal, is all you really need to put an evil Twin Amp over the top…🎸🔊👌🏼
hearing you speak it seems you are talking about my 79 twin reverb, 37kg, loud loud loud. below 2 almost nothing, above too much for the living room, at three the glasses on the cupboard start to ring, at 6 they probably fall off. is the master switch push/pull on this one?
awesome playing Dave and awesome sound from this amp. Ive been looking for a super clean amp and local guitar center has used one. This amp would stay parked in my room and connected thru ox box which i just noodle and record ideas. i do not gig just been buying gear since covid hit and working from home still. I think this compared to twin reverb which is double the price would be best for cleans and light distortion as i like clean classic distortion sound or lighter distortion. I do have a 68 vibrolux reverb reissue silver face which sounds good but breaks up too soon so i think this amp sounds the best for my situation.
I've played a couple of those in my time in the 90s as well as the Fender Prosonic; a similar beast, 60w (only 2 channels I think), 2x10 and almost as heavy as this Twin.
While my folks were out of the house the other day, I cranked my Pro Junior 4 (15w, 10 inch speaker) into natural overdrive just to see where it happened. Very cool but very loud, the walls were shaking. You probably couldn't even crank this thing at Glasto.
Fender Stratocaster ✅ No problem there. Fender Twin ✅ No problem there. Hey Dave, is that the Tonemaster Twin that you demoed with 2 other a fender amps recently? I went back & checked the previous video with 3 Fender Amps and this doesn’t look any of them. 👍☮️🌞🎸💖
I have a Fender Hot Rod deluxe, also a very heavy amp for its size. I carried down stairs a few days ago and think it's time to buy a Katana or something similar.
Yeah, i used to have that amp and i loved it, but your right, its way heavy. I hated lugging it around. Had to sell it years ago but i really loved the sounds it made.
We use ones of these. They sound awesome but you're right, they weigh a ton! So we're looking for a modern head/pedal combo that can replicate it's sound. What do you think?
Love to see you check out the Quilter superblock usa…. I love mine, stupid good tone for a solid state. It’s pedal awesome and pedal sized. Mount it your pedal board and go from board to cab with a single stereo cable, also has direct out xlr for direct to board and you can skip the cab if you want.
Feaarless Sir Dave of Guitarland, , you should make that your main amp, it really adds weight and that's quite a sound you've got already! peace and love mate 🎸
Dave, I can buy such an amplifier at a favorable price, after inspection... can I play it at home after switching to 25 watts? .....is it possible to set volume from 2 to 4-5?
Hello Dave, I've got one that is very poorly, I left it in a rehearsal room because it's so flippin heavy and was also ruining my suspension and my back, I have a sneaky suspicion that a keyboard was run through it and ever since it has been just sat in my room feeling sorry for itself but looking pretty. Watching Your vid has inspired me to bite the bullet and send Her off for repair. Ps. Just received my SubZero head and it's a thing of beauty, just hope the Fender repair will come in at the same cost of the SubZero..................🙄🤕🙄
I always rated the fender twin but it's just too big for me as I don't play live anymore. It would be great if they could make a mini-twin that was house trained
Yeah, that would be nice. I don't see the point of having a "low power" option when it only halves the wattage. I mean, 50 watts isn't half the volume, so either go down to 25% (although 10% would be ideal) so it's useful, or don't have it at all.
The tonemaster would be ideal for us normal folks if it wasnt so overpriced. Ive played through a few of the range now and i do like them, but at atleast a few 100 quid under current prices
Yeh that was a fantastic tone. Dave i have a sincere question, i like you, am fortunate to play through alot of stuff ( not that i own it though lol) but how do you keep the GAS under control and not be constantly spoilt lol.
@@thedavesimpson it would be nice to look at the bank account and see enough in it lol nowadays its not enough to afford the gear you gotta afford the electric bill to turn it on 😅
You can put the speakers in series to reduce power. The transformer can handle it. I asked a pro repair guy for my super twin reverb (180Watts 6*6l6) and I play it at living room level.
@thedavesimpson thanks for the prompt reply Dave the thing with that amp is that it really sings when wound up and I just wondered if you'd managed to do it at a lower volume 👍👍.
hi dave. love your style and playing. you seem like a good guy. take your fender twin amp and pull the two middle power tubes . the 6l6s. per owners manual instructions. this will step it down to 60 watts. and the low power switch in the back will reduce it to quarter power. basically 15 watts like a blues junior. i have the same amp with a pair of celestion vintage 30s installed. have had it fifteen years and will never part with it
Great intro as always sounded close to your Marshall playing but something different about the mids more glassy. I think the Hiwatts probably second best pedal platform or equal.
Dave Simpson: the cure to all life’s problems.
Seriously man so true
Dave you seriously have no idea how good of a guitar player you are 🎸 🔥
Awesome playing Dave and demonstration about the Fender Twin wich I still have. For me personally the Best sounding amp!
The clean strumming on the 335 was amazing! Great video as always!
I had a fender twin all through the 70s and never blew a tube....I put casters on mine and used a hand dolly to move it around...That twin and my Les Paul Custom back kept me getting my back adjusted but now I don't gig out, I can have another tube amp in my studio without the worries! Fantastic idea. I mean, if professor's can do it with PhD students, why not guitarists?

Holy Cow that is a great sounding amp! Of course, you make them all sound good! Is it heavier than an AC30?
I would say so yeps.

hi dave. love your style and playing. you seem like a good guy. take your fender twin amp and pull the two middle power tubes . the 6l6s. per owners manual instructions. this will step it down to 60 watts. and the low power switch in the back will reduce it to quarter power. basically 15 watts like a blues junior. i have the same amp with a pair of celestion vintage 30s installed. have had it fifteen years and will never part with it
What was he pushing it with to get Stevie tones without going deaf?
If I could hear music in my mind and I can this is what I hear Blues
Monster fender love it!🙂👍🎸
Great intro as always sounded close to your Marshall playing but something different about the mids more glassy. I think the Hiwatts probably second best pedal platform or equal.
🔝🔝please don't miss this opportunity I'm given you🎁🎁🔝📍🎄🎄🔝.....
