Great breakdown of what success is. Robert Kiosaki, author of Rich Dad Poor Dad, wrote that his father told him he was nuts to start a business because 9 out of 10 new businesses fail in the first 5 years, he writes that his take away from that conversation was that if he wanted to succeed he would have to start 10 businesses in order to get one that succeeds. 15 years after reading that I am in a successful business and when I count back on all the ventures I have endeavored and failed at the exact count is, you guessed it, 9 losses and one big win. I love hearing the inspiring stories of people like yourself who just kept trying until "it happened"! Back in the 1980's I remember reading books and news magazine articles (US News and World Report, Time, and Newsweek) about Lee Iacoca, Sam Walton, Dexter Yaeger, Zig Ziglar and others who succeeded in big ways in their fields, but were humble enough to share the low points or mistakes that helped get them to the top too. Thanks for sharing this story on You Tube. Although I have had some ideas, and started the business plans and talking to people who know people, etc. none got very far off the ground. Whether it was good or bad, who knows. Sometimes it truely is a sucess to realize a plan will fail- and avoid that path in the first place. This was a great video, I started my landscape business in Ga about 5 years ago at 24. I am definitely looking for the next venture, but as of last year we grossed over 346k in sales with one pickup truck and 3 guys including me. When I started I was knocking on doors and could not get anybody to spend more than 20 bucks. It literally comes down to being incredibly stubborn and sitting on a mountain of failed attempts. I completely agree that nobody gains success easily. It is very risky and full of failures. A lot of ups and downs. If anybody has an idea or a drive to start a business you really only have time to lose. Money can be fixed or made back.
DoodMang well you need to continue with your cash cow the landscaping company and then start to diversify on the side with something else that excites you
That was such a refreshing video to watch. I've been going at it for years/decades I guess buying and selling. Finally got my niche market a decade ago (motorcycle related by chance lol), still building it and growing year upon year. Had many setbacks but I have to thank my old business partner, thanks to him being such a conniving so-and-so I would never be where I am now. He basically poached my idea and work. As usual I didn't have the money and as he did he took it and ran with it, then contacted me and asked me to come on-board after he already had it tied up. I had two choices, lose a year plus of work or get on-board with him. I was able to make it three years before I told him to buy me out and I started my own thing from scratch in the same field but not direct competition to him and gave him a none-competitive contract for a year. After a year I realised I need to get back to what I know and contacted him to let him know, I was civil and tried to not compete with him directly but he ignored my gesture and badmouthed me, so I thought game on. Now I was up against a very good name and brand I helped to build but I have something he doesn't have, drive and perseverance. Now 7 years later he has closed shop and I'm going from strength to strength. Thing is sometimes we need that push we don't feel comfortable with to start our journey.

I love the reflection on your business ventures. Buying assets is a great goal. It's not always easy to see what is an asset but that comes with experience. At this point in my life I am nearer the end of my career than the beginning. I have learned some things both working for myself and working for companies big and small. 1) businesses change but it's the people around you that matter. I have met and worked with some amazing people, many of whom I am friends with years later. 2) Most businesses have a shelf life. Technology changes, people's taste change. Know when and how to get out. 3) Doing something that works for you is good. Beating a dead horse is bad for you. 4) Do something that you are interested in but make money at it. I love motorcycles and I did the buy low sell high for a while but I am older and I don't understand the motorcycle market anymore. I got out. 5) Anything you do, to bring a product to market, to offer someone a great experience or to provide someone exactly what they want is not a failure and is not wasted time. Sometimes we have to stay busy and engaged so that we are ready for that perfect opportunity. About the popcorn box, don't be so hard on yourself. You were actually doing while others were just dreaming. (I'll bet you learned a lot too.)

Love watching your videos, and I am really impressed with your story that I didn't know. Thank you for sharing. It gives entrepreneurs like me the fuel to keep going.
I know it's easy to stand on the outside of an event and make judgement calls, but you should have gone with the popcorn bucket idea. It's a great idea and I bet it would have been a big success with potential to grow into more. I disagree with your comment about "unsuccessful people are sitting on a mountain of never trying." They are sitting on another thing that did not work, but when they find the one that works for them, if they don't stop trying, they will become successful. If someone had looked at you during one of your earlier unsuccessful business attempts, would you have been accused of not trying? No, each unsuccessful try would only form the mountain that you now sit upon as a success. Good job, Sean.
Popcorn bucket was a great idea! Yes sir, done several prototypes as well. And you’re correct, most won’t try for fear of failure or being ripped off by big corporations, which does happen. Although, nothing ventured is indeed nothing gained... There will be many failures along the way, along with much time and investment, you might even lose your family in many cases.
Someday you should have a popcorn bucket machine made to your original spec and have it in your man cave! That was a brilliant idea even though it did not work out in the end.
Thanks for the insight, Sean...especially liked the part about buying an fld and trying out trucking. ..I can relate to that since I've been an owner operator for the last 42 years Never made a killing at it but it's a good living....motorcycling has always been my hobby...
I loved the ending, it is exactly right. You have a good idea? Try it, and actually put time, effort, finances into it. If you can't do any one of those three it'll never work.
At one point I did concert promotion, took a year working on it then got to that point a lot of folks get to, you're right there on the edge of pulling it off or getting cold feet and going back down the hill. The stepping off point as it were. I forced myself and remember saying, "Go ahead and jump, and hope the chute opens" It was the fear of the unknown, but I pulled it off.. lost money for myself and the silent partner, but we did it. Now I don't have to wonder what if.
How do you overcome depression to become succesful? My depresion comes from loosing my father two years ago, I use to be succesful but after that I went down real hard. I'ts being too long I feel ashamed of my self for being down and defeated, I lost my energy and the hunger for bussines and success I used to feel. The only thing I will never lose is my love for god, I hope that bring me back to serve. You mentioned FOCUS and DISCIPLINE, I'll stop trying and start doing. Blessings for you, your family and your big dreams. I admire you, thank you for sharing.
D M I feel for you depression is a dark thing. And a real thing. Sometimes you just need to work through the pain and also get help with the depression. I’m sorry your dad died. I know how important my dad is to me and it would for sure knock me down if something like that happened. But I have a family of my own and can’t let them down.
The thing with more money (eg $1 Million) is that you can use different mechanics in multiplying this Million than with $5. So I would see Your achievements in a different level.
Serious question... How did you handle all the Titles for the bikes? Did you have the seller sign and notarize and you file it until it sold? Or did you get it put in your name and wait for a new title to come in before selling the bikes?
NateOnGuitar you can only put so many titles in your name and at that point you have to pay taxes. So I was an agent of the dealers who were buying the bikes.
When I left the Army, I had three life dreams die in less than a year. I'm certainly not a success story, but that failure pushed me in directions I never thought I would go. Life has a funny way of not working out the way we think it should...but perhaps that's what we all have in common with each other.
dude we still have redbox kiosks here and people use them every day in the poorer areas of towns in every state people can get a redbox movie for a buck and a couple bags of popcorn for a couple bucks and them and their friends or kids can have a great night that idea is still viable not everyone can afford to take their families to a theater or afford all of the streaming services some of us can if i had the start up capitol i would totally run with your idea brother

Never made a killing at it but it's a good living....motorcycling has always been my hobby...
Have you ever considered selling popcorn out of your truck? Popcorn Trucket
nice vid! you should have the popcorn machine vend a huge Sams like bag ,
Man that was inspirational! Thank you
Another inspirational video, thank you for sharing your experiences.....
love your channel man. it is inspiring :))
Loves to hear more about your life brother!
You’re testimony sounds exactly like mine only I’m still in the crapper but I believe God will bring me back to being a winner again someday.
Thanks for sharing bro! Nothing great ever comes easy!
Love your stuff man 😀
Another great video 👍 very motivated...
I loved the ending, it is exactly right. You have a good idea? Try it, and actually put time, effort, finances into it. If you can't do any one of those three it'll never work.
Whats the story on the Blue RT in the background? Don't see it on the site?
I needed this today. Thanks :)
Good work Sean👍
Seen you in the caddy yesterday coming onto Mannheim pike, honked at you!
Oh sorry I didn’t notice. The caddy is too relaxing
Awesome video again. Thanks for sharing and helping to I spire oghers. You're a good person.
That was very inpirational .My son is in the rental business in Canada.
Thank you for sharing brother. Failures are sometimes inspirations.
Mysterious Honda Rune rocks too !
More Honda Rune videos
That bike 🏍 has character 🏍👍🏼

I'm wealthy from rental properties. I'm 26 years old. Love your videos bro. Going buy a bike from you soon!
sean watts awesome
Great videos, you should write a book instead. I know I would buy one. SRK cycles rocks!
I still see people going to Redbox places. Might try this again now that you're ahead more.
The thing with more money (eg $1 Million) is that you can use different mechanics in multiplying this Million than with $5.
So I would see Your achievements in a different level.
But it’s the exact same principle that you use to multiply a little as you do with much
Thanks Sean!
Agree with you about Shiah Lebauf, but I will give a little more credit to Michael Bay for that destruction.
Thank you for sharing your failures with us!
Now I don't feel as bad for failing myself!
😌

The only difference between the master and the novice is that the master has failed more times then the novice has tried. -Stephen McCranie.
