    I think Oathmark is perfect for LOTR battles. They need rules for eagles and oliphaunts maybe but everything else is covered. The game really flows well and it feels like you are dealing with a dark ages army. The units don't all do as they're told.

      Haha very true - I reckon it would be easy to come up with some interesting rules for Eagles and the like from other units with a bit of a tweak. I do love that orders/command phase - such a neat addition.

    Aww wow this is class, First age is best age. Ive done a load of 1st age armies for MESBG but never considered other rules. Awsome ideas cheers.

    The Oathmark skeletons are my favourite ones I’ve ever painted. So much fun to work on. Can’t say the ruleset sings to me but the idea of running First Age games with it makes total sense. Could be a really fun way to work through untouched sections of Middle-Earth. Sadly none of the people near me have any interest but if someone else wants to do it so I can live vicariously through them, I’d love to hear about it

    Loved this idea and agree totally about Oathmark, both the miniatures and game itself, providing a suitable platform for early age gaming in Middle Earth. If you like the face plate dwarves then Colin Patten's Ragnarok range will go well with these too and should scale will with these minis. Interested to see how you get on and if this turns into a project for you.

      I was actually looking at the Ragnarok stuff - especially their new Goblins as I think they'd be perfect for thise First Age vibe. I may have got all my Oathmark books out to try and push myself to do some building/painting away from SBG!

    I clicked this and was like cool. Another on the table......hey! wait a minute! lol!! Subbed to this channel just as quick. I have to be honest, Oathmark has become my go to for Fantasy rank and flank but Joe's games are honestly my favorite games. Their all just so easy to learn and teach to people and fun as hell.

      Thanks for the sub and hope you find more of the videos fun watches. Oathmark really is great. As you say, really easy to teach and use for a variety of different styles of Fantasy

    I've not considered playing first age, or second age games, and campaign games don't work for me, as I barely get to play, so linking games would take months. I really like the MESBG system, even if it really is just roll sixes. War of the Ring is different.

    Dragons rampant would work as well,or kings of war easy to tweak unit stats

    Do you think Rangers of Shadow Deep would work for small-scale battles in the same age?

    • @BecauseOfDragons
      @BecauseOfDragons  11 месяцев назад

      I think you could very easily use Rangers Of Shadow Deep to do small skirmishes. You could turn your "Ranger" into one of the awesome heroes of the age or someone similar and have them and their followers diving into cool adventures. Immediately thinking of Beren & Luthien and getting into the lair of the enemy!

    silly nitpick - Smaug has wings and can fly, so that model isn't a good stand in for him. It would work brilliantly for Glaurung, though, who doesn't have wings.

    I always wanted a red armor army of elves as the sons of Fëanor just so hard to find good models. This is some awesome stuff tho and I'm excited to see others getting more into the first age

      I think the Oathmark Elves are probably some of the best for capturing that First Age style. Need to find some properly good character miniatures though I reckon! Thanks for commenting :)
