  • I go through all the dice rolls you will need to get started in a basic game of Oathmark, This is the type of things could have done with before my first game.
    Please let me know if I made any errors and I will add them to the pinned comment.

    Looks like I got a couple of things wrong and could have been clearer about some things, this was a reply I got on The Oathmark facebook group which I tfound quite helpful and fills in some of my gaps and expands on a couple of bits I left out for simplicity;
    Andreas Persson:
    A few minor things I noticed: In both shooting and combat, you forgot that any dice that rolls 5 or more above the target number generates an additional hit (important when dwarves are hitting on 5s, 10s would give extra hits)
    I don't know if it was intentional, but you ignored that the goblins should have shielding (which would have reduced the amount of dice the dwarven archers had, and could have been used in the melee as well, reducing both sides dice)
    Important to note, the champion die does not cause double hits, but 1 additional hit (which matter when you can generate 2 hits with 1 die)
    For the last morale test, the 2 full ranks of dwarves did not cancel out the 2 casualties for modifiers. You get -1 for each casualty, but only +1 for the ranks, so the dwarves would still have needed 5s.

    I do like how armour is active and not passive. Always felt odd that in most games the owning player has to check to see if the armour works, having it as a value the opponent needs to over come is a much better way to represent armour.

    Thanks for sharing! I’m going to put my own videos like this up once I’ve got some painted armies. And yet I still enjoy watching other people’s like this! Thanks for posting the corrections. Good things to note.
    p.s. morale, not moral. Just noticed that :)

    Hi Mr Crow. I finally it Try this out tonight. Bought it before lock down had big plans then nowt lol 😂. Things get a bit messier with rear charges.
    Questions where raised lol.
    1. If you've got say 3 trolls with 3 attacks each in their profile. You still can't roll more than 5 dice is that right?
    2. If you attack a unit who has not activated does that mean you can't then activate the attacked unit. Fighting/defending counts as its activation. Right?
    It's a bit deceptively simple. 😂 But it was a pretty fun game.

    • @ScruffyCrow
      @ScruffyCrow  Год назад

      Yeah they both look correct, it's simple but when you look at some of the design choices it's quite elegant. I think stuff like trolls (deffo statues) work well as units of 2 but then I believe you lose a leadership point for not having a full rank?

      @@ScruffyCrow the Wulver was a beast. Just ran one on his own. Hard to stop trolls an ogres going down to archery I think. Need a skirmish screen. It is pretty elegant I agree. Much better than the old Warhammer. Only first try of it. Hopefully more soon.

      Its a nice mechanic it's simple enough it doesn't get in the way of your game and tactics but without feeling shallow.

      @@ScruffyCrow how dose flanking and multiple fights work so if say your dwarfs were charged in the side and front by two separate units?

    • @ScruffyCrow
      @ScruffyCrow  3 года назад +1

      I don't believe you can have multiple combats and iirc, flanking not only limits your return attacks to the number of ranks bit also makes it more likely you'll become disordered and therefore one step closer to fleeing).

    • @ScruffyCrow
      @ScruffyCrow  3 года назад +1

      So if you could line up a double charge you would do one then the other, and hopefully one would weaken the unit possibly even disorder it and then you would follow up with the second one like a one two punch. But at the end of combat there are a few different places the units might end up but it all adds to the tactics.

    Nicely done! I appreciated seeing the modifier math displayed on the screen. My only question would be the points values for the example units. It seemed the Dwarf Linebreakers massively out matched the goblin spears, and so I'm curious if the points difference match their capabilities?

    • @ScruffyCrow
      @ScruffyCrow  4 года назад +1

      Yeah the linebreakers a significantly more expensive, not got the book to hand, but that wasn't an even fight.
