They have not been. I don't tend to like using varnish as I'm worried about ruining the miniatures!

@BecauseOfDragons a good matt varnish like Winsor and Newton would give some protection against the speed paint rubbing off

Ah I love the Astral Templars and mainly because of Hamilcar! I am really tempted to paint my Vanguard contingent as Astral Templars and have it so they are fighting alongside the Anvils - a lot of the Stormhosts mix and match anyway and with the new Regiment system it would make sense. You've got me tempted to do it now haha!

@@BecauseOfDragons Ha! But yes, the new Regiment rules do seem to handle mixed sub-faction armies more deftly than the previous rules.

I don't actually which is a strange one as I know a lot of folks do. I think it's because I've had bad experiences with varnishing miniatures early on in hobby and I keep avoiding it! Deffo right on the Contrast - thanks for taking the time to watch and comment :)

You've got to think that there will be some balancing and tweaking involved for some of the factions which used to have particule ways of playing.

Yeah it feels super thematic. It's interesting as it has had me considering the idea of going all in on that particular vibe, maybe as a small Path To Glory project.

Thanks for watching :) I do think that Oathmark is great for those missing those small, fun hobby projects that can get you started in a game.

Remember that all of your stuff that you still have has rules so if you're just playing games with friends and family then you're sorted. Obviously a shame if you're looking to build up a larger force BUT I would imagine (as you say) the 3D printing crowd will get involved and fill the gaps for people wanting some of the now vanishing miniatures.

We might find that becoming the case - I suppose we shall have to wait and see when it comes to the new rules which should be with us in hopefully a month or two.

Whilst I do wish they would just say "because there's too much stock and we need to cut down on what we offer" they were fairly open about one of the reasons why. "We have also reviewed our factions and tried to boil them down to eras from the movies and books which we want to focus on" - so from a design decision they're cutting out what makes sense for their future plans. Do I wish we had GW making miniatures for all of the book AND movie moments? Yes! But, it's at least more reasoned than the decisions made for games like AoS and 40K.

Yep - there are glorious miniatures from a myriad of other creators (especially in the last few years) that can be used to build your warbands with.

Just so you have the answer here too - From what the article says, I think that means that it will be just repackaged. So, the miniature shouldn't go anywhere by the looks of it.

@@BecauseOfDragonsthanks that is good to know. Its the main model on my list to buy when its back. That and the (hobbit) trolls and forgeworld mumak were big on my wanted list but the trolls and forgeworld mumak have already gone. I would’ve been really annoyed if quickbeam went forever

Yeah, I'm not surprised by the Khand and Far Harad stuff as well as some of the other more esoteric miniatures in the range. It is a shame we're using some of the Elves and Dwarves in particular but I can't help but feel like they'll have some plans for them in the future - we shall see.

I guess whenever they announced this, the "last chance to buy" miniatures would have gone quickly. I don't think there would have been a good time unfortunately. I do agree maybe a Made To Order period would be a good idea (maybe they will return in batches in the future) but I think GW are just wanting to clear out the stock to make room for more.

@ i see on the GW website it says quickbeam is being renamed birchseed. Does that mean the model will be removed from sale or is that one of the models being discontinued?

@@BecauseOfDragons it is really terrible for people who play the game that models get taken out of the game when they were so expensive. I dont play the game and only paint but i can see the frustrations of gamers who have spent a fortune, plus all the hours of painting, to have their army decimated in one quick swoop. Its a big way to really alienate your customers

As with the AoS change (where a whole bunch of Stormcast got sidelined) - there should be some notice given to those tournaments and other gaming groups who allow a lot of the Legacy stuff to be used. So, even if they can't be used in official GW tournaments - they most likely WILL be usable in other tournaments as long as they have rules. From a collector's point of view, yes, it's a real kick in the nuts. There will be a lot of incomplete collections.

Midgard is looking like it is going to be the saviour of a whole lot of Fantasy miniatures!

@BecauseOfDragons And, there are other models, NIT on these lists, that are suddenly no where to be found that are REQUIRED for Quest of the Ringbeaer. Namely Haldir, March Warden, and Mirannan Orc Commanders..... luckily, I sold a bunch of old magic cards to my FLGS in June, had a HUGE store credit and had ordered up about everything thing I needed. Just a few buts and bobs to go.

Fitting response for the time of year

They have removed some of the variety of the factions-some more than others-but it's yet to be seen how this will actually affect the competitive scene for MESBG. We don't know what their plans are going forward for new miniatures and I'm sure that there will still be plenty of interesting ways for you to build armies in the new edition. I might be wrong but I'll reserve judgement for now.

I think you're probably right - unfortunate for those who liked these ranges but much like you, they weren't particularly ranges I was overly invested in. At least they are keeping the Legacy rules in the mix for those who already have the miniatures in their collection. I hope you're right about the focus on a smaller range and perhaps revisiting and enhancing what they have from the films and the books.

Will be intriguing to read the new rules and what they have tweaked. I can't see them being a massive departure - fingers crossed with miniatures being removed we'll get some nice new ones to take their spots.

I would imagine this might be one of those spoilers that is fairly self evident early on. But yes - a bit out of left field but then I suppose they do have to promote the minis range as much as possible

​@BecauseOfDragons interesting mechanic idea. ... Wonder if they would do something like, having to roll for each model to see if they remain loyal or not to this Lord. Maybe more of a campaign thing... or a lesser heroes retinue switches sides.
