Disgusting attitude of Maurice towards Ding! Totally disrespectuful and demeaning. He berates Ding for not playing another line that was equally drawish but the engine says slightly better, a tiny micro detail that is extremely difficult for a human to see over the board. For Maurice it’s easy because he’s there, with his feet up, looking at the engine. He’s so much into engines that he has come to believe he is Mr. Stockfish or something. Playing chess is something else. And if he hates drawish lines so much, why didn’t he scold Guskesh as well for playing the hyper drawish French Exchange? Yet, not a word on that. He doesn't mess with Gukesh (too many Indian fans who would fry him), he messes with Ding. By now, he knows who to mess with and who not to mess with. He once dared try to belittle Carlsen, the best player of all time, for not being as "smooth" as his engine, and he regretted it for a long time. Magnus stopped him dead on his tracks and put him in his place right on the spot, comme il faut. Ding is too much of a gentleman to deal with such disrespect properly. But Maurice is way out of line; simply put, he should not be there.
I think people should calm down on the criticism of Ding, which borders on disrespect. We don't have all the information, especially concerning his state of mind. As a fan of Ding, I've been incredibly frustrated by his play in the last year and a half of course. But he silenced everyone with his win in Game 1 and he might do it again.
I feel like Ding is a little bit stronger in terms of pure chess... but mentally he seems not ready... And that's why Gukesh i think will have an edge over him because Gukesh is very calm and mentally healthy which goes a long way in chess... But anything can happen... lets continue to watch next games for now...
A person who is in difficult state the world make his life more difficult by commenting every now and then . This is disrespect for the game . I also did not like that Gukesh do not calmly accept his defeat and saying it happened because I feel nervous like Carlsen in worl championship . The thing that you mean the other guy win only because you are not in good shape is disrespect of other player's win .
Agreed. A lot of Hikaru speed run fans on here who hadn't watched any chess pre 2020 now think they know it all. No knowledge that Ding was one of the top players for years and thus can only hand out disrespect whilst rooting for a TT muppet who's never had a sniff of being in the WC match.
lol, so true. All these internet commenters just not considering the experience of playing in one of these games, let alone the 5th game of defending.... what are they thinking to question them that way.
We should not involve the AI in the press conference. It's unfair to criticize two top-5 for a minor mistake after four hours of intense mental effort. I agree that Ding had a chance to win in the final few moves, but I don’t blame him at all for settling for a draw. I’m also surprised that Gukesh played G4, which gave Ding an opportunity to win. However, I respect this move for showing aggression, rather than opting for a more conservative move.
That g4 move is fine. It's the variations afterwards that's sharp and give chances to both players. Engine likes the move g4. It's NOT a blunder. The only blunder of Gukesh is d5. Ding missed his chance, but that's fine. I think we can all agree that these 2 are not as crazy good as Fabi-Magnus, but definitely much better matchup than Nepo-Ding. That one is just hard to watch. But that's also fine, as Nepo has always been the player who has good intuition, just that it doesn't work his way all the time. And yes, I agree with your opinion to not involve AI. If they wanna analyze these moves, they should do it together WITHOUT AI intervention. If Ashley, Hess, Judit missed it, then we can all agree that it's fine that Ding and Gukesh missed it. Edit: just grammar
Agree! Ding is doing fine! One can see both under-evaluated the position at various times. That's how the game is supposed to go. A perfect game of chess is a draw.
I feel it’s important to be respectful towards both players even while having a favourite. I support Gukesh but that doesn’t make me respect Ding less. And looking at him he seems like a good guy calm and respectful.
Some idiots on the live chat, so just to clarify:- Ding is the REAL WC. Magnus withdrew from the process and therefore may be Elo ranked no. 1 but that does not make him the "real" WC. Anand played in the 2012 match as World no. 4 vs no. 20. He was still the REAL WC as well as current rankings are irrelevant to participation in the match. You need to be in the championship cycle, as the champion or the Candidates winner, hence Ding being here as the WC and Gukesh as the challenger. It's that simple.
WC after Magnus withdrew is a historically meaningless title. Even Kasparov said so. A "world championship" that does not decide who the strongest player in the world is, is just another title.
@@ElShogoso You can only play against whose put before you. What if Magnus totally quit chess and didn't want to play anymore. Would that then make the subsequent matches by other meaningless?
