My only guess as to Ding’s passivity is that with Gukesh the big favourite, and considering his relative inexperience, Ding’s team wants to take him into deep water and up the pressure in the later rounds.
Precisely. Ding is a grinder and that's what he did with Nepo too.... He will grind it with his iron clad D and take it to the TB where he is the real advantage. The Guk will come up short due to inexp.
One thing I find pretty frustrating about these recaps is it seems to have been decided that you won't show variations on the board when they're being discussed, but it would be much easier to follow the train of thought if a few move variations were permitted to be shown on the board on the left.

I think it is clear that removing Kaja was a vast improvement. Today Levy is relegated back to a position where he can only ever be tentative because he is always about to be either corrected or confirmed by Magnus. It is a role that serves no purpose. Ding gets criticized no matter what he does. It doesn't matter if he's outplaying Gukesh, it's never enough. Personally I think he's doing great, and conserving energy in such a long match makes sense, why fight for 4 more hours to get a draw anyway. He's playing smart, and if he does need to take risks in the future I have no doubt he will, because he did against Nepo. Go Ding! Prove them all wrong!
Are you what dumb??Here gukesh and ding are making boring draws by not even trying to win atleast magnus was trying to win in every game from 0.1 advantage and fabi was defending brilliantly
@@nikhildawani2913don't argue with these people they can't even handle criticism all thanks to biased commentary by chessbase india and overhyping gukesh
20:54 On Na4, Leela shows a way, which Ding might have seen. Leela's top move was Ding's preferred Nc4. So much so, even after Na4 Leela still wants to retreat to c4. White setup would be timely b3 + Rb2 + Bc1 maneuver, against Blacks Rb6. This way you challenge the only concern of the position; c4-d3 bind.
If the draws continues, at some point Gukesh will face a huge pressure as he wouldn't want to play the tiebreaks, and he will need to play aggressive and fight for win. Ding is just waiting at that moment for him to strike.

Maybe give Kaja a role to come in at the end and ask the MVP questions 🤔
Ding gets criticized no matter what he does. It doesn't matter if he's outplaying Gukesh, it's never enough. Personally I think he's doing great, and conserving energy in such a long match makes sense, why fight for 4 more hours to get a draw anyway. He's playing smart, and if he does need to take risks in the future I have no doubt he will, because he did against Nepo. Go Ding! Prove them all wrong!
Because everyone expects nothing but the very best from the reigning World Champion and this is clearly not enough 🤔
I mean, if there's anywhere where you need to place the highest standards, it's for the WCC.
Cause A) he's the world champion B) he's not converting the positions he's better in and C) his opponent is just 18
Magnus' random backgrounds are the exact opposites of Levy and Gotham's..

Thank you Magnus for gracing us with your large brain and keen insights
The Engine said Nc4 was by far superior to Na4, but he didn't follow it up accordingly
🤔
Nc4 leads to a endgame which balck has pawn up but it is obviously draw because white can blockades dark square but na4 is more versatile
Na4 is given basically the same evaluation as Nc4.
GOTHAM CHEST 🥵
Happy Birthday magnus.🎉
Magnus complaining about draw when he drew 12 out 12 games with Fabiano in 2018 championship which made people question classical format

On Na4, Leela shows a way, which Ding might have seen.
Don’t waste your time. Magnus wants Gukesh win so levy is dickriding that brain dead “every top 10 player would go na4” nonsense
If the draws continues, at some point Gukesh will face a huge pressure as he wouldn't want to play the tiebreaks, and he will need to play aggressive and fight for win. Ding is just waiting at that moment for him to strike.
