You're probably 500 elo at best or you didn't even watch the video because Ding played really well and had the chance to win, but he missed it and drew the game. Draw ≠ boring
it is shocking because ding had a fun (for him) position (courtesy of gukesh, and that is itself shocking), and he didn’t want to play it for some reason
@@sneakerhead4770thats only in classical cus theres so much time to work with. So lines need to be deeply calculated. I think in rapid and blitz he has the ability to think on his toes cus he only needs to see a reasonably good line and go with it, something gukesh struggles with
Hii Levy, I just want to thank you for making such engaging and creative recaps and videos, in general. Your Enthusiasm and humour is unparalleled in chess!! Thank you for keeping Chess so fun!!
I used to think Agadmator's commentary was better than yours, but you've now surpassed him. It's so refreshing to provide your own take ... just mechanically going through the moves like he does becomes dull and stale. Best approach is to provide theory in the context of the moves, which you do ... but also, the bigger picture, as you do now, but others shy away from. I like that Hikaru also is opinionated on such matters. That's what the audience wants ... i.e. "tell us what you think"
Agad isn't really a strong enough player to offer much input outside the engine lines, which is why I personally don't watch him as much. Agad's commentary can often gloss over something very important, likely because Agad doesn't recognize the importance of it, but idk, maybe he's intentionally only focusing on some things for the sake of time. But his commentary isn't usually something people would find annoying, which is where people might not like Levy.
@@VeilInfinity I can't watch him anymore cause its so monotonous he says like the same thing word for word literally every single time going thru the game like a robot
@@mac_sour Magnus likes to play chess and have a battle. He would be very upset and bored playing a guy who just looking to make a draw every single game played. 17 moves of opening memorization/theory just to get a drawing position isn't fun for a lot of these GMs, especially Magnus.
The conversation style recaps between you and Magnus on take take take are much better than the first one. Still seems Magnus is bored talking about draws. I like the way you do these recaps and I go in not knowing the result. You just have a natural way about talking through the game. Feels like I have a friend of mine calling me up and telling me what happened.
To be fair, magnus is known for pushing to get everything possible out of a seemingly drawn game. He's naturally frustrated to see World Championship games where one side has a clear advantage and should push it, but instead settles for a quick draw. Magnus would 100% have played for a win here as black with that pawn, and he's just irritated Ding went the boring route.
I, as someone who is just getting back into playing chess, but never have watched it until now, i really enjoyed this game! I dont know how professionals see it, but for me it looked like they were both putting in some effort, even if they werent going all the way. This was my favorite game so far!
Hey levy. I've taken a 3 month break from watching chess RUclips videos and I just want to say it's great to be back watching your videos especially with the 2024 world championship. Thanks for your insight and it's great to be back.

Levy the term you were looking for was either "Armchair Quarterback" or "Monday Morning Quarterback". The first one is saying it is very easy to say what to do when you aren't playing, and the second one is a way of saying that it is much easier to analyze things with the advantage of hindsight.
i'm really bad at this. i can look at someone playing and see about 70% of the possible moves to play (im new to the game) but as soon as i actually play its blunder blunder blunder oh my queen's gone and im in check, resign
I've also heard it phrased as a Monday morning quarterback, as in you second guess after the fact. Based on his wording, I think this phrase is what he's looking for but they both mean roughly the same ring
Interesting plot twist - Magnus turned out to be the Sauron of chess. "A dark shadow looming over the World Championship", to quote the famous chess influencer and aspiring grandmaster Levy Rozman.
This was really bad for ding, Gukesh is not gonna play e4 the rest of the tournament after this and that's the only opening where ding has had an advantage in prep.
Ding is performing better than people thought he would. Never count a champ out, he won the last championship after all. He has more experience at this level.
To me, this game demonstrates why Ding is not a worthy world champion. A world champion defends the pawn on c4, plays that endgame for another 3 hours to squeeze the life from the opponent, and probably wins from that position 20-30% of the time. Magnus, Kramnik, Kasparov, Karpov, Fischer, or any other past WC I can think of would've played for the win, and Ding's unwillingness to try was, frankly, pathetic. It's not like there was huge risk for Ding to play on. It wasn't a sharp position with chances for both sides. It was a two-result position where black wins or draws, no losing chances, and Ding should be embarrassed that he didn't even attempt to convert his advantage.
For me, all this intensely negative criticism towards both players from both amateur and professional armchair quarterbacks is the only thing subtracting enjoyment from watching this world championship. Really, who is anyone to so sharply criticize Ding's meta strategy of playing conservatively early in the match? Seems like he's saving his strength for a moment when he may have a more decisive advantage, and he'll likely take bigger chances later on if and when he needs to. Most thought he had no chance to compete coming into this, now he's tied after 5 games, and still getting relentlessly bashed. Same with Gukesh, he literally just reached adulthood, is playing as the youngest person in history to ever make it to this stage, is currently tied with the defending world champion, but can't make even one small mistake without getting raked over the coals for it. The way people are so quick to pour on all this toxic negativity, you would think they'd prefer to see two engines competing for the championship, instead of two human beings?
@JustinRoberts-k2v sports commentary and critique is a common thing for a match on this level. This player gets their money when people are commentating and critiquing them.
@@maximussaktish it's perfectly fine and reasonable to break down the game in a thoughtful and professional way, and to point out where each player may have missed an opportunity or made a mistake, but again, they're human beings and it should be expected.
