Just spent about a month playing ever version of RE1, over and over and over and over and over. Been always wanting to do a DEEP DIVE video like this for the classic games. This was fun and I think I presented it in a good more up to date way even though a lot of these stories are 25 years old lol. Hoping to have time to do RE2 next!
This was really cool. Would love to see u do this for re2. Eventually could do this for the remakes also. Plus it's awesome to see u post another video, we've missed u brother!
If you complete the adventure in under one hour with both characters without shooting any zombies, it unlocks the bonus game “What Is This?” with Barry Burton. You have to correctly identify different items (gun, first aid spray, potato etc.) as Barry asks “what is this?”
Although the REmake is my all time favorite game, there's a special charm about RE1 (1996) that's not present in the remake. The goofy dialogue, the bad voice acting, the references to classic horror B-movies, and the bad 32-bit graphics really makes it something that stands out from the rest of the series. It's definitely my favorite of the original PS1 trilogy.
Video games in general were just better back then and you felt they were more artistic and as you said, the charm and magic is what made them so special. It’s not always gameplay mechanics or voice acting like the modern day games emphasize.
I remember playing Deadly Silence back in high school when it came out, it had a battle mode where you raced against another player and you could play as most members of STARS each with their own stats and perks. Good times...
@@WheresBarrywasn’t online, just wifi link up with people near by. There’s a lot of cool extras in that mode too, like being able to play as Enrico and Richard. Never played the full four player mode though
Man, I've played RE1 since its launch, hundreds of times, but I didnt know that the 1st zombie actually leaves the room without you entering it. Awesome!!
I noticed in the directors cut ps1 version that luring the zombie into the dining room amd having barry kill him makes all zombies go down in 1 to 3 shots. Didnt seem to affect other enemies though, this is a great video and very well done thank you!
This is also a viable method of preventing the game from freezing on the Windows 95 version. The other route would cause the game to freeze except for the repeating ticking of the clock. I believe this is an operating system issue.
Interesting, I remember hearing this rumor and trying it on the original big box and not noticing anything. Wonder if it has to do with OG director cut using the original Japanese unaltered difficulty.
@@Gaming.Vids1 The only version of RE: DC I have access to anymore is whatever version is on PS Plus Premium. The weird clown music doesn’t play in the basement - if that helps narrow it down. It's amazing how I didn't know almost anything about these secrets and easter eggs about the first game despite having seen tons of videos about it. You're amazing!

@@WheresBarry awesome man!! looking forward to it! been playing resident evil since day 1 and any new content on it is great to see. Plus you throw some comedy into it which is always appreciated. Keep it up Barry!!
I only know the scene at 4:00 from the remake. I think it's a great attention to detail the devs gave. Because they could also just not let you get out of the door you came from but they didn't. They made all these cutscenes, programmed everything just for an alternate start. Developers really paid attention to detail back then.
I feel like the color palette and bright room design was also influenced by The Shining’s hotel ‘look’ in many cases…! Even the original RE2 has “Redrum” written on the wall which I’m sure you know about!
Yeah def a Shining vibe throughout the entire room design and throughout other parts of the game with blood and stuff. Yeah doing RE2 now will def be talking shining again in that one.
My REnerd Skill leveled up twice from this video. Looking forward to the next one on RE2 and hopefully the rest from there. Good to have you back B-Man 💜
Along the lines of the different cut scenes at the start, there are other alternate paths you can take that will yield different cutscenes as well as the possibility of Barry giving you the Grenade Launcher early.
Yeah I once went through to try to get every cut scene, then save at points so I coud then reload and try the other way. I want to do a video specifically for all the different cut scenes and paths the characters can take.
This was great. The OG Resident evil is my 3rd favourite game of all time. I didn’t have a memory card when I would rent the game from blockbuster, so played the first few hours over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.
As far as the alternate costumes go, I always liked Chris’s “army” one with the shoulder pads because it made Jill’s design feel more consistent with the rest. Everyone else had the vest instead, but having one other design like hers made it feel more natural as part of that world (not that it wasn’t, but like it was a bit odd she was the only one with that look).
Welcome back Where'sBarry! Never knew the references with the Stallone movies and Arnold! Also, love the info about the Saturn Version, I really want to play it now, but I don't have a saturn and I'm sure a copy of RE on that platform would be extremely expensive. Keep on bringing great content!!
That’s a nice Easter egg, now I’m curious if that makes the game easier. Recall this game fondly as a teenager, and been playing these games ever since. Nice to see a vid from you again!!!
If I remember rightly, if you keep chickening out as Jill, you get the easier game where you don’t have to fight the Tyrant a second time. Conversely, if you do the opposite (such as using the broken shotgun to disarm the falling ceiling, taking care of the crows before Bazza assists you or killing the roots of the giant plant), Barry dies. Or was it the other way around? Similarly, if you’re Chris and you don’t use Rebecca’s help too much you can either rescue her or let her get eaten by a hunter. I liked Resident Evil.
Yeah, this one was the first time I've done a video where I could take my time and not rush, since it was an old game, so hopefully I can do a couple more.
ive played this game since it was released, watched tons of vids with secrets but THIS video actually gave me some new facts about it which means u rly took ur time to prepare it all. :) easiest subscribe i ever had.
You got some info wrong at 11:47 . Chris' PC unlockable weapon the Minimi is the real life FN Minimi by Fabrique Nationale, its a 5.56x45mm Belt-Fed Light Machinegun. The Uzi is a different gun entirely, an SMG chambered in 9x19mm, 9x21mm, .45 ACP, and a few other cartridges.
In the start pass Berry don't talk to him exit by the door but do not trigger the zombie eating scene,go back to Wesker talk to him go back to where the zombie is remember not talk to Berry or trigger the zombie scene go back talk to wesker etc etc. The more you do that the more the zombie will eat of Kenneth body if you do this for a long time the zombie will come out of the door where Berry is and all of his body will be gone and you can't get the ammo clips. Extra difficult setting, the cloths in the game also add difficult levels to the game for example if you play with Jill in her normal uniform on normal mode you only need one acid round to kill a hunter and you take normal damage,if you play with Jill without the hat it will take 2 acid rounds to kill a hunter and you take more damage,if you play with Jill with no hat and no shoulders pads it will take 3 acid rounds to kill a hunter and you will take a lot of damage,so the less dress you are the damage you do and the more damage you take and is the same for Chris.( Not sure if this was in the normal version or only the direct cut it was ages since i play that game). You can do head shoots in the game but fast taping up on the controller when you fire this way you will hit the zombies in the head and you need less ammo to kill a zombie this way,in normal mode you need 6-9 bullets to kill a zombie but if you do this you may kill a zombie with 2-3 shots and some time you score a critical that blow the zombie head off like if you was using Berry magnum
5:12. I wonder how "unintentionally" funny Barry actually was. You can actually here his voice actor stifle a laugh when he says "Jill Sandwich." I think he knew exactly what he was doing lol
12:25 'Using oil to burning bodies' so i wonder if there was a proto idea to the crimson heads but shelved, a possible concept revived for the RE 1 remake? Either that or it was a bid to help the players kill a zombie immediately when down.
There's a few reasons to sub to you, you're not one of those annoying youtubers, you're pretty chill, to the point but omg that Arrested Development Charlie Brown walk of shame ya did for Barry was perfect lol. Gotta sub for that! 👍
I don't know the truth behind this, but it seems there was a rumor floating about that the director's cut songs, while still not the best in the series, actually were composed properly, but had the wrong instrumentation placed on them... giving them the goofy sounds we hear now. I'm not sure if the video still exists but someone uploaded a youtube video with the instrumentation of the song changed, but leaving the composition the same and it sounds WAY better.
Sorry if this comment is a 2nd one, the thing froze the first time. But any idea if the MIDI file is out there? I'd totally throw this in a program and try out new instruments. That def sounds plausible.
3:43 I'VE NEVER ONCE SEEN THIS!! I recall when I was a kid my cousin showed me or told me something you have to do with the clock that isnt the clock puzzle, but up until now. I've NEVER seen this! Amazing!!
Resident Evil DS was my first ever RE game and I think back to how much I didn't cherish that and I just wish I could go back and play one last time, It was such a good game.
Yeah the first is the hardest too because there are no RE easter eggs because its the Only game out at the time. So glad I found a few. RE3 video has some cool stuff in it that most people don't know about working on RE2 and RE3 now.
Also in Ds version after you beat the game the mode known as" master of knifing" will unlock. You can also play as alpha team members in Ds version. There is also multiplayer mode in Ds.
Ah, yeah the DS version I wasn't sure to include it here or to do its own video. I def missed stuff from that. I never played it all the way through either. The only puzzle I personally came across were the moving the color dots puzzles but I know there are other touch puzzles somewhere in the game. I'll have to play it through someday.
Nice, yeah working on RE2 right now, these take forever lol. Almost like each point is its own research, gameplay, editing, writing and video. And with RE2 I have at least 30 of them! :D
I recall the 'he's insane' setup that apparently lead to easier game play from really old gaming cheat websites. I don't think it ever did, (I'm going from memory) there didn't seem to be less enemies and sure some enemies like the hunters can still do a crit when your low on health. (Maybe it increased ammo find) What I did like was the attention to detail in the time-lapse of stalling and activating that cut scene of the zombie entering the room. Eating away kenneth's legs as you were chatting to barry, and that by stalling to progress gives it time to finish eating and then, come after you, is clever but also somewhat unsettling when thinking about it!
Yeah this is pretty damn cool. I never realised this even happened. I knew you could go back to Wesker in the hall but never tried after being forced back to Barry, didn't know the zombie got tired of waiting and came for seconds, I knew you could lure him back to save bullets but damn that attention to detail for a early PS game was impressive, not only he gets tired of waiting and comes for you both, he finishes Kenneth's legs before deciding the voices in the hall are more food. I kind of like this too, it adds to the zombies having enough brain to wander and feed, whilst we 'know' they do wander, in the older games them being locked to rooms (for obvious reasons) feels like progressive in their efforts to consume people, this shows they go wherever they can!
Not looking great on the stream front. Gonna hopefully do a couple of these types of vids. I thought about maybe gathering clips live on stream but not ready to return to that yet! Hopefully someday!
Fun thing about Wesker is that the zombie wasn't his only dead form. In the director's cut and one of the novelizations, he's actually decapitated next to the self destruct button. Wesker was never meant to make it out alive. However, either due to error, change, censorship or something else entirely, he was kept and given his super villain future... Though some fans might argue this was a bad thing. :P
@Where's Barry Its the new Resident Evil reboot movie that came out in November, its already available to rent everywhere. Haha if you watch it you're in for quite a treat dude lol. They combined RE1 and RE2 into one movie thats about 95 mins long so you can already imagine what thats like 😉
Directors Cut “Arrange Mode” if you highlighted it then held right on the D-Pad for 5 second it would turn green. This gave you double ammo and ink ribbons. It also makes the enemies slightly easier, but still harder then original mode enemies. Also it was rumored years ago, that the reason Dum-Dum ammo (Which was a ammunition manufacturer of Britain, who came up with a way to make bullets more effective) was because a developer read it was Illegal after the “Hauge Convention of 1899” which has to do with war… Dum-Dum is a slang term that was used for years by “Gun people” to mean Hollow Points. This leads to a joke, my parents owned a gunshop for 21 years and my father had gunsmithed that same amount of time, by the time we got a PS1 and Resident Evil Directors Cut… We played the game as a family, and my father had counted how many rounds of magnum ammo in total you could find in the game, and for years he would joke. “You only got XX amount of magnum ammo in RE1, cause if it was shot anymore it would shake apart” Now this is funny (Cause I have had to do the repairs myself) is later made Pythons would be pretty loose and the barrel would actually start to slightly unscrew. Which the fix is to tighten it clocking the barrel a little more (but not noticeable) to stay tight I’ll shut up now… Great video! Really enjoyed it!
First time I heard/found out about the "He's insane!" line from Barry, I was amazed. I had to reset the game and go back and figure out what I did so I could show friends lol. Also interesting to hear RE1 was going to be supernatural and then they scrapped it again with RE 1.5/2... which I would imagine you'll bring up if you do a second part.
Yeah the Mikami interview is good, it is 2 or 3 parts on RUclips. He thinks ghosts are the scariest thing. He also was making RE4 and so you could see in the early development there more supernatural stuff.
This was an amazing video! Your tweet about the tick popped up on my timeline and I just had to click over here. You’ve earned a new subscriber and I will gladly an RE2 video. Take your time! 👍
This was such a well put-together video! I loved it. I learned so much about one of my favorite games. Many I knew, but some of these blew me away! Gold Tyrant? The Tyrant roaming the streets ending? Oh, and about the musician for the director's cut lying about his credentials possibly? Wow! Just wow! Keep up the great work! I see some folks are requesting an RE2 deep dive. May I request an RE3: Nemesis as well? :)
Great job, I didn't know a couple of things despite considering myself a hardcore fan of the franchise. BTW, Rebirth mode from REDS is so fun it's ridiculous! It's one of the games that best utilized DS features, even better than Castlevania trilogy.

All the time watching I kept shouting fckin hell louder and louder with amazement.
Guess you learn something new about RE every day.
run jill he is insane
Barry good to see ya unloading! Love the vid 👍👌
Thanks 👍
I read all these comments. Its insane how many people "Wheres Barry" actually responds to. No wonder you are a legend.
I respond the first few days, then there are late to the party people like you!Miracle you got one!
loved the goldmember reference, great video!
Thanks!
I never knew about some of these. I love learning new things about RE. So, definitely do every game haha
Nice, yeah working on RE2 right now, these take forever lol. Almost like each point is its own research, gameplay, editing, writing and video. And with RE2 I have at least 30 of them! :D
Great coverage of a great game. Thanks a ton. I would have never seen some of this stuff.
Glad you liked it, thanks for watchin!
@@WheresBarry keep it up man, I love RE. It's more than just a game series to me. And these videos mean a ton. 🤝
Best video of RE1 ever made. Thank you.
Thanks!
Nice work
Thanks!

FN M249 Minimi, not IMI UZI.
Great vid as always. 🙏
THEEERRREEE'SS BARRY!!!! everyone was looking for you since re3make man, where have you been?
I recall the 'he's insane' setup that apparently lead to easier game play from really old gaming cheat websites.
I don't think it ever did, (I'm going from memory) there didn't seem to be less enemies and sure some enemies like the hunters can still do a crit when your low on health. (Maybe it increased ammo find)
What I did like was the attention to detail in the time-lapse of stalling and activating that cut scene of the zombie entering the room.
Barry’s back.
Barry's back, back again, Barry's back, tell a friend...
Never knew the clock triggers the zombie
Thanks for the trilogy of Easter eggs fella 1,2 and 3.. not seen much From you recently but keep doing what you do 👌🏼
hey Barry are you gonna stream again? I miss those cool nights , also please yes continue this series !
Not looking great on the stream front. Gonna hopefully do a couple of these types of vids. I thought about maybe gathering clips live on stream but not ready to return to that yet! Hopefully someday!
@@WheresBarry thanks for reply , been hearing those resident 4 rumors ?
I always thought the guy on the cover of re1 kinda looked like Ken Shamrock lol
Great vid Barry!
Thanks@!!!!
Interesting!
Yessssss Barry is Back!!!!!! Need to do a RE Welcome to Raccoon City review stream!!!!!!
Is that a new game? Or a TV show. I don't really watch RE content outside of the main games. Where do I find it?
@@WheresBarry It’s a movie actually
@Where's Barry Its the new Resident Evil reboot movie that came out in November, its already available to rent everywhere. Haha if you watch it you're in for quite a treat dude lol. They combined RE1 and RE2 into one movie thats about 95 mins long so you can already imagine what thats like 😉
@@WheresBarry It’s trash, don’t bother…
Glad to see your videos again! I hope you will be doing more of them.
No promises, Hopefully 2 & 3 at least :D
@@WheresBarry either way glad to see your videos again. Hope you’ve been doing well
Directors Cut “Arrange Mode” if you highlighted it then held right on the D-Pad for 5 second it would turn green. This gave you double ammo and ink ribbons. It also makes the enemies slightly easier, but still harder then original mode enemies.
Also it was rumored years ago, that the reason Dum-Dum ammo (Which was a ammunition manufacturer of Britain, who came up with a way to make bullets more effective) was because a developer read it was Illegal after the “Hauge Convention of 1899” which has to do with war…
Dum-Dum is a slang term that was used for years by “Gun people” to mean Hollow Points.
This leads to a joke, my parents owned a gunshop for 21 years and my father had gunsmithed that same amount of time, by the time we got a PS1 and Resident Evil Directors Cut…
We played the game as a family, and my father had counted how many rounds of magnum ammo in total you could find in the game, and for years he would joke.
“You only got XX amount of magnum ammo in RE1, cause if it was shot anymore it would shake apart”
Now this is funny (Cause I have had to do the repairs myself) is later made Pythons would be pretty loose and the barrel would actually start to slightly unscrew. Which the fix is to tighten it clocking the barrel a little more (but not noticeable) to stay tight
I’ll shut up now… Great video!
The very content I subscribed for! Thanks a lot!
Thanks! I finally have some time to do this deeper look at some of the old games. as 1-3 are my faves
Great video of this legendary horror game! Btw, what is the name this cool background music here?
3:45 that scene is also in the REmake from GC.
Run Jill, He´s Insane!!
This was an amazing video! Your tweet about the tick popped up on my timeline and I just had to click over here. You’ve earned a new subscriber and I will gladly an RE2 video. Take your time! 👍
Nice! Welcome. Yeah, I plan to do at least RE2 and RE3. I'm always curious how people find the channel so thanks for sharing!
Barry has returned! 👏
WAZZZAAAAp
This was such a well put-together video! I loved it. I learned so much about one of my favorite games. Many I knew, but some of these blew me away! Gold Tyrant? The Tyrant roaming the streets ending? Oh, and about the musician for the director's cut lying about his credentials possibly? Wow! Just wow! Keep up the great work!
I see some folks are requesting an RE2 deep dive. May I request an RE3: Nemesis as well? :)
Thanks! RE2 is coming very soon, hopefully this week. RE3 will take another 2 weeks to create, but its queued up!
@@WheresBarry Please take your time! I'm looking forward to all future RE content you produce. :) This video brought back such nostalgia for me.
I Missed you videos buddy!!! 😊😊😊
Thanks!
thanks for the video!
Great job, I didn't know a couple of things despite considering myself a hardcore fan of the franchise.
BTW, Rebirth mode from REDS is so fun it's ridiculous! It's one of the games that best utilized DS features, even better than Castlevania trilogy.
Just gained a new sub!!! ❤️
Welcome! RE2 coming very soon
Chris is stuck in the friend zone lol 😂
:D
Never saw that zombi encounter in the first room, that's cool.
Yeah, that's one secret not many people see. Maybe accidentally the first time playing, but once you play once, you never think to leave that room.
