Had the most powerful, hard-hitting, long-range PCP beasts, but nothing is more satisfying than mastering a sub-12 springer.

Bought a 99s a week ago and the spring buzz was insane. I opened her up and flipped the spring over as the guide was much tighter in the end that was in the piston. Bit of a wipe out and a bit of molly here and there and put it back together. The buzz has pretty much completely gone. Brilliant little gun and more accurate than it should be (it's almost on par with my S200!)

You're definitely getting the hang of springers I remember your frustration with the 97 I've got the hw80 tuned and it is PCP accurate if held right and do leave the PCP,s at home just for a change when ratting Love it 👍👍👍

I've gotta tell you, I don't know anyone who loves springers more than I do! I have a Beeman R7 in .177, Weihrauch HW80 in .25, and I just bought a used Sig Sauer ASP 20 in .22 cal. I love practicing with these rifles, but I never hunt with them! I have a FX Wildcat and a FX Dreamline that I use for hunting. Why? ...springers shoot groups vs pcps shoot a ragged hole ...and that can be the difference between a humane dispatch vs a wounding shot!
I truly feel that pcp's are the better way to go for hunting because of the consistent accuracy.
Keep up the great videos! ✌️

Ive never dropped an aftermarket kit in any of my new airguns and I think I’ve mentioned in previous videos that I’ve been shooting airguns for about fifty years. If they haven’t been right from the dealer they’ve gone back. Dropping an aftermarket kit in a new airgun will affect your warranty during that cover period too. But I agree they should be right straight from the dealer and I’ve shot only Weihrauch’s for the last 30 years apart from my pro sport I bought last year they have been absolutely fine straight from the box and done everything what I’ve needed them for. Have a great week buddy.

      Hello Gentlemen,
If I may, I'd like to add my polite comment, please?
In terms of aftermarket drop-in kits, etc, all air rifles are made to a factory standard. Rightly so, if an air rifle is tampered with in any way, the warranty will be invalid. Manufacturers couldn't afford and don't have the means to finely tune every air rifle they produce. That would be impossible. However, there are many able people out there, where the buzz/twang would be something that would aggravate them and they'd have to address.
There are kits out there that will without doubt, improve the function of these air rifles. Just like in some peoples opinion, alloy wheels and go faster stripes will improve a car.
However, if we want alloy wheels, etc, it's up to us to install them, much like airgun tuning. Many people can and do tune and improve their air rifles and are prepared to stand their air rifles warranty being invalid. Many of these people will have prior experience of this in their air rifle journey.
I think personally, it's all about what someone requires. If they know they can improve their air rifle to what they require, with respect, they'll not be bothered about their warranty as they've achieved their goal in bettering what they have, to their own tastes and requirements.
I know and agree, it's something we shouldn't have to do. However, the air rifles are made to a factory standard. If we want anything different, it's seen as our responsibility to do it.
As far as I know, that's the view the manufacturers take.
      Best wishes, Ian.

    Hello Air Hunter UK,
If I may, Id like to offer my opinion on springers and pcp's, please? Personally, I like them both. I think they both have a place for airgunners, obviously.
They are both different, though every now and then, its nice to have a change.
If you're used to springers, it's nice to change to pcp's where you enjoy no recoil to speak of, at least an eight-ten shot magazine and cocking lever, and mainly, a lighter air rifle.
If I'm changing from pcp's to springers, it's nice not to be tied to an air bottle/cylinder. A springer is hold fussy, so conscious of that, and hitting your five pence target is extremely sayisfying at distance.
I'm lucky to have both and its nice to swap and change with different challenges with both. They're both great, I love them both and I wouldnt like to be without either.
    Thank you, Ian.

well all I can say is I prefer my spring air rifles over my PCP air rifles. My weihrauch HW77K, HW97k, HW50s, HW30s, and Beeman R7 are all tack drivers and I never have any issues hitting or killing anything I shoot at with any of them.
they are all stock out of the box as well no tune kits or mods.
    cheers from the USA

Proper bit of common sense he speaks and I'm so pleased he said that about tuning not heard that said often but a lot of us old guard who grew up with springers feel quite at home and confident with them.
Some people do seem to have an obsession with perfection and if that's what you like great just enjoy yourself.

After owning mine for a few months, the twang was pissing me off. I re-lubed and swapped the metal piston insert for 0.5 mm ptfe sheet one and now makes thud rather than a twang. However my pal ran his stock rifle for 12 months and his twang disappeared gradually. Still prefer mine lol 👍🏻 enjoying your videos, many thanks for taking the time.

I’ve tried lots of so say tuned springers that have had a drop in kit and to be honest they do shoot different but a bit Sh*t and the guys have to convince themselves it’s better because they’ve spent the money. I’ve also tried springers that have been professionally tuned that’s a different ball game noticeably quicker lock times and the recoil is different but not necessarily better but a different impulse response.
I’m a Weihruach fanboy and they’re all accurate enough but you have to work at it. Past 75 yards PCP has the edge in sub 12 for hitting 28mm targets because accurate sub 12 springers work best around 10.5 to 11 is flbs because beyond that recoil starts hindering accuracy whilst pcp can be wound up to nearly the limit without problems because they’re recoil less.

I bought a HW80 .22 in the 1980’s when they first came out. Up to that point I had several s/h guns but once I had that gun I never needed another it was used for plinking, vermin shooting on 3 farms for the best part of 25 years. I still have that gun and it is sporting some battle scars but it still performs as it did when I first bought it. The only problem I have now is its weight, when I first used it I was a big strong fella I’m now in the second half of my 70’s and give it an airing in my back garden so that I don’t have to carry it far. I do have BSA ultras in .177 and.22 but these day I use a very light air pistol Crosman 1377 which I have converted into mini rifle and it only weights about 2lb plus. It now has a longer barrel in .22. You might realise I ramble on a bit but don’t worry I’m harmless.

Ditto Peter. I still have mine and I will never get rid of it unless I meet a really keen youngster who wants to learn properly. I treated mine to a tune up and what a difference, SO smooth. There's something about a gun that makes it's own power. I bought a AA S510 which is amazing and so accurate but it will never give me the memories that my old HW80 has given me.

@@airhunteruk Thanks for the channel, it's great that someone is still promoting springers. They're great learning tools. I dread to think how many hours I spent at the target I had in my back garden, in those days Eley wasp. I must have a go with some modern pellets this summer just for the fun. A friend's daughter had a go with a air rifle on a school trip and she's now keen but at 11 still a bit small for an adult rifle. Also unfortunately we're in Scotland so we have restrictions brought in by our wonderful government 😕

@@garytree7729 Eley Wasp was the pellet for my HW 80, I still have half a tin left. I went onto RWS Superdome after the demise of E wasp. Another pellet I used which was heavier than the E wasp was the HN Baracuda. It was quite devastating when it hit a rabbit or pigeon. My memory letting me down I think they were 21g. when my scope was set up for the E wasps and I fired off a few barracuda they would group about 2” below the wasps in a similar size group. It just so happens I still have some of those as well.

      Hi Kev,
Thank you for your latest video, with your Weihrauch HW99s. That was great, accurate, humane shooting and shows what can be achieved from, with respect, a relatively inexpensive, accurate, super handy, lightweight spring air rifle.
With reference to spring air rifles and pcp's, pcp's were obviously the natural progression from spring air rifles, the next thing.
What I like about pcp's is that I set myself up, in my camoflage, pcp rested, motionless, scope on my decoy, and wait. If I require a follow up shot, the only movement visible is my dark gloved hand moving my cocking lever, indexing my next pellet. The noise of the shot is a whiff, not much more than that. Anymore movement than that, and my game is up. That's why I chose my pcp over a springer on that day.. Springers are much more satisfying to shoot and be accurate with and give us freedom.
In relation to your opinion on having to tune springers from brand new, I completely agree with you, and it aggravates me too. However, I put this question to a top air rifling guy, and this was his reply, which I agree with.
If we were to go out and buy a car and then decided it wanted fancier wheels, go-faster stripes, etc, we'd have to do that ourselves, and deciding to buy tuning kits is a similar thing.
Air rifle manufacturers build to a standard, and that's it. They don't have the means to tune every individual air rifle and get it spot on. They'll just make it to a standard, and if we want better, then it's up to us to do that ourselves.
Personally, I don't think we should have to take apart, tune, and mess with something that's brand new.
I suppose people do it because they know they can better their air rifle and place their own mark on it.
With that comes a lot of satisfaction knowing they've better improved their own air rifle, which will pay dividends for them in the long run. It's also opened up another industry, too, lol.
As an example of my own, I have a mark 5 BSA Meteor, which my dearly loved father left me. One day, I just decided to go to town with it as I never liked the twang/buzz on it. I disassembled it and cleaned it all up, as I hadn't used it much.
I made a new top hat and sleeved the spring guide. I sleeved inside the piston and installed a new piston seal and breech seal. I re-lubed with good quality greases and re assembled all with the love of my father in mind. BSA Meteor's were powered, I believe to around 8ftlb. It shoots so much better now, and the twang/buzz has gone. It's more of a zip noise now, lol. You see, BSA made to a budget and they couldnt have afforded to do with every air rifle they made, what I did. I sourced how to dismantle and re assemble from the kind people on Utube, and it's so satisfying to see how much better it shoots now.
      Best wishes, mate, Ian.
Ps. There is so much to learn about air rifle tuning, depending on what you want to achieve, and some things that you'd think would be obvious, definately aren't obvious at all.

      Hello My friend,
I love talking about air air rifles. I always wanted them growing up. They were forbidden due to circumstance. So now, I'm doing something I dreamed of while I can.
I hope I don't come across as a know-it-all. There are people on here who've forgotten more than I'll ever know, and I respect those people.
If I can tell you something that may help you along your journey or help you create your own ideas/opinions, then I feel good about that and happy to do so. This is a great hobby, and it's great to liaise and learn with the benefit of Utube from so many able people.
      Best wishes, my friend.

Although I totally agree with you that if you buy a new springer particularly a Weihrauch springer you should not then have to get it tuned to shoot its best BUT a specially customized HW99s from Tony Wall at Sandwell Fieldsports that does not just have a tuning kit fitted but goes through extensive tuning etc plus comes with a threaded barrel and silencer and a name called IMP Mk 2 then the rifle becomes a rifle that is definitely a PCP accuracy contender and a great hunting .22 springer. Admittedly it costs £495 instead of the £299 off the peg 99s but well worth it. Check out Vermin Hunters TV HW99s IMP Mk 2 videos.
